Chapter 77: Dinner Party

“….Hmm~ Seems like there’s no new information about Sir Jonard.”

“Still, it’s amazing that you managed to go through all these books in just two days.”

“Well, I didn’t read the ones that didn’t seem to have any relation to what I’m looking for within the first few glances. I’m only able to do it because of the three of you. Thank you, everyone.”

Just like what Elmie said. I had looked through quite a few books over these past two days. My eyes were starting to get tired. 

After my meeting with Deva-san, I returned to the library in order to search for more books related to Sir Jonard, who we assumed must had been a male saint, just like me. Eventually, there was one more book about Sir Jonard, but it didn’t have more information than the first one we had found. Both books made it clear that Sir Jonard was an amazing person, someone worthy to being biographed about. However, it wasn’t clear whether he came from another world too, like me. If the opportunity arises in the future, I hoped I could look for more information about Sir Jonard. 

“I guess I’m done with the research for now. Let’s take it easy tomorrow and do some shopping in the capital and then, the day after that, we can leave the capital?”

Although there were other useful books besides the ones about Sir Jonard that should be deciphered, doing too much myself would take away the work of professional translators. I had separated the books about medicine and diseases and as far as I could see, there were no books that needed to be deciphered immediately. 

“Alright! We ended up staying in the capital much longer than we planned, but the days had been fun in various ways.”

“That’s true. Well, I’m glad we could be of help.”

“Thanks to Souma, the Dark Guild that brainwashed children could be apprehended and Deva-san could be cured. Souma, you really did a lot of good deeds here.”

“I’m glad to hear that. But still, even though the fancy food at the inn tastes delicious, I’m starting to miss Annick.”

The luxurious inn provided by the king was comfortable and the food there was delicious. The facilities in that inn reminded me of a high-end hotel from my original world. I didn’t want to stay too long in that inn because I didn’t want myself to get used to the luxury. I was afraid I would become corrupted like the other healers. 

Besides… The hotel staff’s attire was quite distracting to say the least. Well, maybe they dressed in that getup on purpose for eye candy, but considering I had Elmie and Tia-san with me, I needed to be careful to not let my eyes wander.

“As someone who’s living in Annick, Souma’s words make me happy. Tomorrow, let’s buy a lot of souvenirs for everyone back in Annick!”

“Yeah, let’s do that!”

“E-Everyone! The king said we don’t need to worry about table manners, didn’t he?! Relax! If we become too nervous, we’ll end up making more mistakes instead!”

After leaving the library, we were invited to have dinner with the king. TO be honest, just the mere thought of dining with the king was enough to make me feel so nervous. However, I decided to accept the invitation anyway since I knew I needed to maintain a good relationship with the king. 

Although the king said we didn’t need to worry about table manners, but she was still the most important person in this country. I couldn’t help but to be worried that I might make a stupid mistake and end up offending her. 

“Elimie, you said all that but you’re the most nervous one here. You need to take your own advice and relax your shoulders. But anyway, Elmie, Flora, Ferris… All of you look great in that suits.”

Yes. This was a formal dinner invitation, so Elmie and the others were dressed in formal getup too. In this world, women usually wore suits to a party. There were skirts and dresses, but mostly only little girls wore those. I was a bit disappointed to learn this. Strangely enough, the everyday clothing for women in this world tended to be more revealing, but the formal attire was the opposite. The suits didn’t look revealing at all.

“Re-Really? Souma too! You look really beautiful too!”

As for me, I was also wearing a suit, which was considered formal wear for male in this world. Of course, it wasn’t like the black and white suits from my original world. This suit was more like the medieval suits I often saw in fantasy movies. Still, as a man, I still couldn’t get used to receiving compliments. 

“Ooh! Souma-dono! I apologize for inviting you here today. Your suits look very good on you. You look beautiful, Souma-dono. No wonder you’re known as the black-haired angel from Annick.”

So that nickname had spread all the way to the capital too…

“We-We’re so grateful for the invitation!”
