Chapter 11: A Crowd of People at the Adventurers’ Guild

After discussing about the difference in situations between this world and Japan with everyone, we proceeded to have dinner together. We ate various dishes that we had brought from food stalls. Though, to be honest, the taste was a bit disappointing. While the flavor of the meat and vegetables were the same or maybe even better than those from my original world, the cooking method in this world was too limited. They basically only grilled it and seasoned it with salt, resulting in a somewhat monotonous taste. As a Japanese, I was accustomed to food rich in flavor. Hence why, this bland flavor was a bit hard for my palate. Since this was only the first day, I didn’t really mind it, but if things continued on like this, I might get tired of this monotonous flavor quickly. I needed to think of something. 

And then, a messenger from the Adventurers’ Guild came with documents related to healers. Since this was our very first visitor since I came to live in this party house, everyone was looking pretty tense. 

Ferris and Flora stood in front of me, making sure I would stay in the back of the room, while Elmie slowly opened the door. Their actions might seem exaggerated, but given how dangerous this world was, maybe it was necessary to be this cautious. 

Afterward, I went to the room they had assigned to me to read the documents about healers by relying on candlelight and moonlight.

“Healers can use recovery spells like Heal, Cure, and Area Heal. Healers can also use holy magic like Purification and Barrier. Male miko can use High Heal, High Cure, and Area High Heal since male miko is one level higher than ordinary healer….”

I decided to try out all the spells I could use by cutting my finger with a knife. I could use High Heal and Area High Heal. I couldn’t tell the difference from regular Heal though. After all, I couldn’t deliberately injure myself fatally. It seemed for Heal, you could specify the targeted part, like the body part I wanted to heal. As for Area Heal, I could specify the targeted range, like a certain area of space. 

Purification magic could clean the dirt from the clothes and body. It seemed it was also effective against undead monsters. I couldn’t test the status ailment recovery spell, Cure, though. 

As for barrier magic called Barrier, it allowed me to create a semi-transparent wall. When I tried to attack the semi-transparent wall with a knife I borrowed, but the knife got repelled. It seemed this was the only spell that could protect me effectively. I should focus on practicing this magic more than the others. 

After I finished testing out various spells, I laid down on the bed. The bed was a bit hard, but it wasn’t uncomfortable enough to prevent me from sleeping soundly. 

“…I guess.. This is really another world, huh?”

It seemed I wouldn’t be able to return to my original world. I wouldn’t be able to see my parents, or my friends from school anymore. Until now, everything was coming at me one after another, leaving me with no extra time to worry about my situation. But now that I was alone and had somewhat calmed down, I started to feel anxious and sad. 

“Uuu…. Hic…. Uuuu…”

Before I realized it, tears were already flowing from my eyes. 

I wonder if Mom and Dad are sad… I hope Mom and Dad can still continue living happily even after my death in my original world…

“Hoaaam….”

….I see. So I wasn’t dreaming. 

I woke up in an unfamiliar room. It seemed I had fallen asleep while crying about my original world last night. 

No. I need to snap out of it! Alright. Crying my heart out actually helped me to regain my footing a bit. This is my reality now. Alright!! I’m going to do my best today!!

“Good morning!”

“Oh, good morning.”

“Morning.”

“Morning. Well, it’s almost noon though. Still, it’s good that you were able to sleep well.”

“Huh? It’s already that late?! Sorry, looks like I overslept…”

I didn’t have a clock in my room. I thought I woke up along with the sunrise, but it seemed it was already quite late. 

“Hey, don’t mind it. You suddenly found yourself stuck in an unfamiliar place. It’s only natural for you to feel tired. The Guild Master also said you should just take it easy. It’s fine, you’ll be fine.”

“I see…. But! I’m feeling great now! If I don’t wake up on time tomorrow, please wake me up! It’s okay even if you have to shake me!”

“Huh?! Wha-?! I can’t just barge into a man’s room like that. Well, I guess I can knock on the door and call your name from behind the door…”

…..Right. I was reminded once again that the common sense in this world was different from my original world. 

I had brunch, a combination of breakfast and lunch. It seemed everyone had been waiting for me to wake up. I felt a bit guilty because they had to wait for me. As for the meal, it was lackluster just like yesterday. The bread seemed to be made without a leavening agent. The bread was rock hard. As for the salads, it seemed they only sprinkle a bit of salt on it. There was definitely so much room for improvements in terms of the diet here. 

After we finished eating, we headed to the Adventurers’ Guild together. Today was my first day working as a healer with the terms I had mentioned yesterday. I hoped I could heal as many people as possible today. 

Upon arriving at the Adventurers’ Guild, I noticed a crowd near the entrance. It seemed the guild was overflowing with people. 

Wait, don’t tell me… All of them are injured people hoping to get treated?!

“Ooh! Is that the rumor male god?!”

“So that’s the black-haired angel… Ah! How beautiful!”

“I heard he healed a fatal injury in an instant! Also, it seems he’s a benevolent man who hardly charges people a penny!”

“Huh? But I thought healers are a bunch of money-grubbers? I bet he’s going to ask for 2 platinum coins after healing you.”

….The rumor could spread this fast in a world without social media… And judging from the people gathered, it seemed many of the people here weren’t adventurers, let alone injured. It seemed most of them were just curious onlookers, gathering here upon hearing the rumors. 

“Oh, you’re here. Right. Please come to this room first.”

Pushing through the crowd, we were guided to the Guild Master’s room.
