After thoroughly enjoying the attraction provided at Umihotaru, we got on the bus and began heading toward Kisarazu. The route from Tokyo to Umihotaru had taken us through an undersea tunnel, but from that point on, we traveled above the sea, giving us a beautiful view.
After a while, we got off the bus at the west exit of Kisarazu Station and made our way to a yukata rental shop we had researched in advance. Naturally, it was because the two of them said they wanted to wear yukata to the fireworks festival. I figured they’d go for red and blue again, but this time was different.
“So this time Reona’s in pink and Riona’s in light blue.”
“We figured wearing the same colors every time would get stale.”
“Yeah, yeah, and I thought you might get bored too if there wasn’t a little variety, Ryouya-kun.”
Needless to say, they both looked stunning in pink and light blue.
Well, they’re both so beautiful after all. I’m pretty sure they’d look good in any color.
Incidentally, just like during our visit to the Bikan district, they pestered me into wearing a yukata too—so I ended up in a black one this time. After that, the three of us walked toward Kisarazu Port, where the fireworks festival would be held. On the way there, we spotted a shrine.
“Hey, Riona, do you know what that shrine over there is?”
“That’s Yatsurugi Hachiman Shrine, one of Chiba’s spiritual power spots.”
“Whoa, you sure know your stuff. So what kind of blessings can you get there?”
“I don’t remember all of them, but I know they have safe childbirth prayers, protection against misfortune, success in exams, and wish fulfillment.”
“Then… Since we’ve got time before the fireworks start, let’s stop by the shrine for a bit.”
Since no one objected, we decided to drop in. We passed through the torii gate and entered the shrine grounds, heading first to the temizuya (the place for the cleansing ritual) to purify our hands. Reona and I were pretty half-hearted about it, but Riona seemed to know proper etiquette and moved with practiced grace.
Then, each of us tossed a five-yen coin into the offering box at the main shrine and paid our respects. I vaguely remembered it was supposed to be two bows, two claps, and one more bow. My prayer ended quickly, but in stark contrast, Reona and Riona stayed bowed in prayer for an incredibly long time.
“…Did you really need to pray for that long?”
“Actually, there’s something I really, really want right now. So I was desperately praying for it to become mine and Riona’s, no matter what.”
“If we can’t get it, Onee-chan and I will be in trouble.”
“Well, if you’re praying that hard, I’m sure it’ll be fine. Also, if there’s anything I can do to help, don’t hesitate to ask.”
I had no idea what Reona and Riona were after, but if it was them, I was sure they’d get it.
As I was thinking that, a sudden chill ran through me. Even though the weather was still supposed to be hot—after all, it was only late afternoon—the cold I felt was unexplainable. After leaving Yatsurugi Hachiman Shrine, we resumed our walk toward Kisarazu Port. Since the shrine wasn’t that far, we arrived in about ten minutes.
Even now, I was receiving envious stares from the guys we passed—understandably so, since I had two beautiful girls in colorful yukata walking with me. That said, I’d gotten used to it by this point, so it didn’t bother me at all anymore.
Back in the beginning, it had been nothing but suffering, but now that I was numb to it, I realized just how scary human’s adaptation could be. I could feel my senses gradually dulling, but as long as I was spending time with Reona and Riona, I figured there was probably no escaping this.
“There are tons of food stalls out. Let’s grab something to eat first.”
“Yeah. We had our lunch pretty early, so I’m getting kinda hungry.”
“There’s so much to choose from, I don’t even know where to start.”
We began browsing the food stalls. I’d heard that about five hundred vendors were set up at the festival, so unless we were after something really unusual, we’d be able to find whatever we wanted. For starters, we bought some takoyaki. Reona then skewered one on a toothpick and held it out to me.
“Ryouya-kun, aaah~”
“I’m not sick today like before, so I can eat it myself, you know.”
“Ryouya-kun, aaah~”
“No. Seriously, I’m fine.”
“Ryouya-kun, aaah~”
Being fed like that was way too embarrassing, so I refused, but Reona kept repeating herself like an NPC in an RPG stuck in a dialogue loop until you chose the right option. She definitely wouldn’t stop until I ate it. So, reluctantly, I gave in and let her feed me. Then, as if on cue, Riona offered me a takoyaki the same way to me.
“Ryouya, aaah~”
“Wait, seriously? Give me a break.”
“Ryouya, aaah~”
Yeah. There was no escaping this. Riona, just like Reona, was definitely planning to repeat herself in an endless loop until I caved in.
Only now did I truly realize just how troublesome these sisters really were.
