ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
“…Alright, all done.”
“Good job, both Ryouya and Onee-chan.”
“With this, I can breathe better now.”
“Yeah, the sense of accomplishment is insane.”
After we got back from Okayama, we’d been working on our summer homework in my room every day for nearly a week, and today we finally managed to finish everything.
“If I’d been doing this alone, there’s no way I would’ve even gotten halfway done. You seriously saved me.”
“Seriously, I owe it all to Riona. This really made me realize that having a brilliant little sister is the best.”
“You can praise me all you want, but I’m not going to give you anything.”
So Riona said, but she looked a little pleased with the praise. It had been a pain while we were doing it, but now that it was done, I felt a little melancholic. Well, not that I’d ever want to get assigned more homework though.
“Now that we’re finally free, how about we go hang out somewhere while grabbing lunch?”
“Yeah, let’s go all out and have some fun.”
“Then I want to go to karaoke.”
“Sounds good, that could be fun.”
Reona and Riona chatted like that. I’d never been to karaoke with anyone besides family since I didn’t have any friends. So I felt a little hesitant, but if it was with Reona and Riona, it should be fine.
While I was getting ready to head out, Mio, who had been out, came back home. Apparently, she’d been playing with her friends this morning and looked cheerful.
“Huh? Onii-chan, are you going out with Reona-san and Riona-san?”
“Yeah. Riona said she wanted to go to karaoke.”
When she heard me say that, Mio gave me a look full of envy. Right. Mio liked to sing. While I was thinking about that, Reona and Riona spoke up.
“Since we’re going anyway, Mio-chan should come too!”
“It’ll definitely be more fun with the four of us.”
“Eh, really? I can come with you all?”
“Yeah, Mio-chan’s going to be our little sister eventually, after all.”
“Hey, don’t just go stealing someone else’s little sister. Mio is my little sister.”
Just like usual, the two of them were trying to adopt Mio as their own sister. I could understand the feeling though. Mio was so cute it was hard to believe she was my little sister, but there was no way I’d hand her over.
“Unexpectedly enough, Ryouya is a siscon.”
“Onii-chan has been this way since forever.”
“Well, I get the whole ‘I love my little sister’ thing too.”
Mio and Riona gave me exasperated looks, but Reona seemed to sympathize with me. Then the four of us left the house and headed toward the karaoke place near the station.
Since it was the middle of August, it was scorching outside. Just walking around made us sweat like crazy. So it went without saying that the moment we stepped into the well-air-conditioned karaoke place, everyone’s expression lit up.
“So how long should we sing?”
“Let’s start with about two hours? If we still want to sing more, we can always extend it.”
“I agree with Onee-chan.”
“I agree with Reona-san too.”
With the time decided, we went to the front desk to check in. Once we were shown to our assigned room, we found it was pretty cramped. The four of us had to sit really close together.
“Alright, what should I sing today?”
“Picking the first song at karaoke is always the hardest part.”
“Yeah, just deciding takes a lot of time.”
“It’s tough.”
We all started browsing songs on our phones or the provided tablet. I had no idea what kind of songs would go over well, so I kept agonizing over the choice. To be honest, I wanted to go all out with anime songs and stuff I actually liked, but I figured Reona and Riona probably didn’t know those songs, and I didn’t want to leave them unsure how to react.
While I was lost in thought like that, Reona seemed to have decided on a song. She picked up the mic and stood up from her seat. The music started and she began singing—but I was instantly filled with regret.
“Oh, no way…Seriously?”
Reona had picked a currently popular love song. But to put it bluntly, she was pretty bad… No. She was extremely bad at singing. She couldn’t hit the notes at all, and her rhythm was completely off. It was just one disaster after another. Judging by Mio’s awkward expression, I could tell she felt the same way as me.
“She’s always been like this since she was a kid.”
“I see.”
“…That was kind of surprising.”
According to Riona, Reona had always been tone-deaf. While her singing continued in the background like some tragic BGM, Mio and I used the tablet to reserve our songs. Right around then, Reona finished her song, looking completely refreshed.
“Karaoke is seriously fun.”
“Y-Yeah.”
“Y-You looked like you were having fun singing.”
Of course, there was no way I could tell her to her face that she was a terrible singer, so Mio and I just gave her vague replies.
“Alright, now it’s my turn.”
“Do your best, Riona!”
Riona took the mic, but unlike Reona, she seemed content to sing while staying seated. After Reona’s performance, I braced myself, but I ended up being pleasantly surprised. Riona sang the theme song from a currently popular drama, and she was way better than I ever imagined.
“Riona-san, you’re amazing…”
“There’s no way anyone could be that good.”
“Riona has always been complimented for her singing. For some reason, no one ever says anything about mine, though.”
It was kind of baffling how identical twins could have such a huge difference in ability. Also, it was pretty clear Reona had no idea that she was tone-deaf.

Chapter 40: You Already Kissed Onee-Chan Anyway
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
“Eh? I’m surprised Onii-chan picked something other than an anime song.”
“Hey, don’t say stuff that makes me sound pathetic.”
“Well,Onii-chan is like that after all.”
When Mio saw the song title on the monitor and reacted out loud, I threw in a retort, but she remained completely unfazed.
Isn’t she being a bit too prejudiced against me?
“Come on now, I’m just looking forward to seeing how Ryouya-kun sings.”
“Ryouya, good luck.”
I was really nervous about singing in front of people other than my family, but at this point, I just had to let whatever happens, happen. As I started to sing while thinking that, my nerves vanished before I knew it.
“Whoa. Ryouya-kun is actually pretty good.”
“Yeah. His singing is pretty nice.”
When I finished singing and placed the mic on the table, the two of them gave me that commentary. I had picked a safe, popular song that just about anyone would know, but it seemed to have gone over well.
“It’s kinda nerve-wracking singing in front of Reona-san and Riona-san.”
“You don’t need to be so nervous. We’re going to be family anyway.”
“Yeah. Let me and Riona hear Mio-chan’s singing voice too.”
As usual, the two of them treated Mio like family, but I knew coming up with a retort for that would be in vain, so I ignored it. When the intro started playing, Mio stood up with the mic and began singing.
She was singing the theme song from a hit anime movie from a little while back. She wasn’t particularly skilled, but she was just so damn cute.
Yeah, I still can’t believe she’s actually my little sister.
“Mio-chan is so cute.”
“Yeah, I almost want to take her back to our room just like this.”
“Hey! Don’t say weird stuff in front of Mio. What if she gets corrupted by you two?”
If Mio were to be negatively influenced, I was pretty sure I’d be so shocked to the point I wouldn’t be able to get out of bed for a while. I wanted her to stay pure forever.
“Yep, Ryouya is a total siscon after all.”
“You worry too much. Middle school girls are way more mature than boys think, you know.”
“Onii-chan, you’re gross.”
With three pairs of scornful eyes aimed at me, I decided to shut up. After that, the four of us kept singing one song after another. Singing solo and in pairs, time flew by, and before we knew it, an hour had passed.
“I was so caught up in singing that I totally forgot… We haven’t had lunch yet, have we?”
“Now that you mention it, you’re right. We originally decided to go out to eat lunch and have fun after that.”
“I’m hungry.”
“Alright then, let’s order something from the tablet.”
We each placed our orders in between songs. As we continued singing while waiting for the food to be delivered to the room, a small incident occurred.
“Huh? There’s only one pair of chopsticks…”
“You’re right. Mio-chan and I got pizza, so it’s fine, but Ryouya-kun and Riona need chopsticks, right?”
The staff probably made a mistake. I was just about to call the front desk to ask for another pair when Riona said something outrageous.
“Then why don’t we just share these chopsticks?”
“”Eh!?””
“I see, that’s a great idea.”
While Mio and I were stunned, Reona remained completely calm. Seriously, I was starting to wonder if Reona and Riona had a few screws loose.
“No, no, there’s no way we can share the chopsticks.”
“Why not?”
“B-because it’d be an indirect kiss…”
I replied with a bit of embarrassment to Riona, who was acting like her usual self. And then, she casually dropped a bomb.
“You already kissed Onee-chan anyway, so what’s the big deal?”
“Wait?! Onii-chan?! You kissed Reona-san!?”
“Yeah, Ryouya-kun and I shared a pretty passionate kiss, didn’t we?”
“….I can’t believe my gloomy, loner Onii-chan turned out to be a player…”
After hearing what Reona and Riona said, Mio stared at me like I was garbage. Getting that kind of look from my beloved little sister… Yeah, that gaze seriously hurt.
“So anyway, just share them, Ryouya-kun and Riona. It’s distracting if the staff keeps coming in.”
“It’s decided then. Ryouya has no right to refuse.”
There was clearly no way out of this, no matter how hard I tried to fight it. Needless to say, I was so flustered about the indirect kiss with Riona that I couldn’t taste the food at all.
