ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
It had been about a week since the day we went to Tokyo Aqua Land, and today, I was riding the Shinkansen with Reona and Riona. We were on our way to attend the open campus event at Okayama University.
When Reona and Riona suggested going together, I had gently refused, citing the fact that it would be an overnight trip. But somehow, the two of them managed to get permission from my dad and mom.
Apparently, my dad and mom had been incredibly easy to convince. So, in the end, I couldn’t refuse anymore, and the three of us ended up going together. Currently, the three of us were passing the time playing Daifugō(also known as ‘Tycoon’ or ‘Grand Pauper’) with a deck of cards.
“Ah, Ryouya-kun, Riona, look! You can see Mt. Fuji outside the window.”
“You’re right. That means we’ve already entered the Chūbu region.”
“Onee-chan, you’re way too excited.”
“But it’s Mt. Fuji! I mean, not getting excited would be harder to do!”
According to the digital display, the next stop was Nagoya Station, so it looked like it would still be a while before we arrived at our destination, Okayama Station.
“By the way, have you two ever been to Okayama before?”
“I’ve been to Hiroshima and Takamatsu in the Chūgoku and Shikoku regions, but never to Okayama.”
“That’s why both Onee-chan and I are really looking forward to this trip.”
“Yeah. It’s not really a place you’d go just on a whim.”
By the way, after the open campus at Okayama University, we planned to head toward Kurashiki to visit the Bikan Historical Quarter for sightseeing, and then, we planned on having fun at the Okayama Milano Park theme park the next day before heading back to Tokyo.
As I was thinking about our itinerary, Riona played two jacks onto the field.
“Whoa, seriously? Pass.”
“Ehh? You’re going to pull an Eleven Back now…? I will pass too.”
Reona and I raised our voices in frustration. Because Riona had played an Eleven Back, which temporarily reversed card strengths, we were completely blocked from making any moves. From there, it was Riona’s one-sided turn, and we couldn’t do a thing against it.
“That makes me the winner.”
“I lost again. You’re ridiculously good at this.”
“Just as I expected. Riona is still as strong as ever in Daifugō.”
“Games like this are my specialty.”
Since we got on the Shinkansen, we had already played several matches, but neither Reona nor I had managed to beat Riona even once. Riona had a perfect poker face, and on top of that, she was sharp-minded, making her insanely strong at card games.
On the other hand, Reona wore her emotions all over her face, so needless to say, she was pretty weak at games like these. Even though they were identical twins, they were apparently completely different in that regard.
“Should we switch to another game soon?”
“…Honestly, no matter what we play, I can only see a future where Riona wins in a landslide.”
“Yeah, Riona has been unbeatable at games like cards and Othello since we were kids.”
Reona had already completely given up before the match even began. She had probably been getting crushed by Riona since childhood. After that, we stopped playing cards and chatted about personality quizzes and sightseeing plans. We were feeling giddy and excited when we finally arrived at Okayama Station.
“We finally made it to Okayama Station. Sitting for so long was kind of exhausting.”
“Three and a half hours is definitely a long time.”
“Good job, you two.”
After getting off the Shinkansen, Reona and Riona stretched and did some light exercises on the spot. That alone said enough about how tough the 3 hours trip had been.
“There’s a temporary shuttle bus running from the west exit of Okayama Station. It only takes about five minutes to get there.”
“Huh. So the university’s really close to the station.”
“Super convenient access.”
“Apparently, there are even students who commute from eastern Hiroshima Prefecture or Kagawa Prefecture.”
While we were chatting like that, we started heading toward the ticket gates. On the Shinkansen platform, the departure melody was the opening song from a certain old galaxy train anime, which gave me a bit of a nostalgic feeling.
Though, to be fair, that anime was broadcast long before I was even born.
After passing through the ticket gates, we made our way to the bus terminal at the west exit. There were plenty of people inside the station, but since it was a regional city, it wasn’t nearly as crowded as Tokyo.
“By the way, I heard the Okayama Milano Park we’re going to tomorrow is also close to the station. Do you know where it is?”
“Okayama Milano Park is on the east side, so it’s in the opposite direction. I think it’s about a five-minute walk from the east exit.”
“I’ve heard it has all sorts of attractions, so I’m really looking forward to it.”
Then we boarded the shuttle bus headed for Okayama University. On the bus were other high school students attending the open campus, and the boys couldn’t take their eyes off Reona and Riona.
Apparently, the two of them were insanely popular no matter where they went. And, as expected, the guys were shooting envious glares at me, the one sitting next to them. Well, I was used to it by now, so it didn’t bother me at all.
“By the way, is this your first open campus event?”
“Nope. I went with Riona and a friend last year.”
“Really? This is my first time, so I’m glad to have someone experienced here.”
It seemed Reona and Riona had already been to one before. I was glad to hear that. Having someone experienced with open campus would help a ton.
