ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
The day after we went to Tokyo Aqua Land, I woke up with a sore throat, a cough, and a strong sense of fatigue. Judging from the symptoms, I figured I must’ve caught a cold. I got out of bed, pulled a thermometer from the desk drawer, and stuck it under my arm.
“…Whoa, over thirty-eight degrees?”
The number on the thermometer was much higher than my normal temperature, so it was definitely a cold, just as I’d suspected. It was probably the pool yesterday that did it.
“…I wonder if Reona and Riona are okay…”
Worried about the two girls I’d been hanging out with, I decided to check in on them through LIME to ask how they were feeling. After sending a quick message, I went to the kitchen shelf and pulled out some cold medicine, a cooling sheet, and a mask.
Just as I was about to head back to my room, the phone in my pajama pocket started vibrating violently with a ringtone. The caller ID showed: Reona Tsurugi.
“Hello…”
“Ryouya-kun, are you feeling okay?”
“Your voice is rougher than usual.”
Since I could hear Riona’s voice from the other end too, they were probably on speaker mode.
“…I’ve got a fever over thirty-eight degrees, so yeah, I feel pretty awful.”
“That sounds rough. Then Riona and I will come take care of you.”
“We’ll get ready and head to your place, so wait a bit, okay?”
They actually said that. Sure, I’d always fantasized about being taken care of by a cute girl when I was sick, but making them go that far in reality felt too much—I’d feel bad.
“I really appreciate the thought, but I might give you two my cold, so it’s okay… You don’t need to come.”
“But you said yesterday that Mio-chan’s out all day today, right? So you’re the only one at home.”
“We can’t just leave you like that, Ryouya.”
“…Alright then. If you insist, I’ll take you up on your offer.”
Reona and Riona didn’t back down one bit. It felt like they’d just come over even if I said no, so I had no choice but to let them take care of me. A little while later, the two of them arrived at my room carrying a plastic bag filled with sports drinks. They must’ve left right after the call. They were here in a flash.
“Ryouya, you look super pale. No pushing yourself today, got it?”
“Yeah. Riona and I will take good care of you, so don’t worry.”
“Yeah. You two are a great help.”
My body felt even heavier than when I first woke up. I was genuinely grateful that they came over.
“Alright, we’re gonna make some rice porridge in the kitchen.”
“Sorry for all the trouble.”
“No need to worry. Onee-chan and I are doing this because we want to.”
With that, Reona and Riona left the room. While I lay in bed half-asleep, quite a bit of time seemed to pass. Then, the two of them returned carrying a tray.
“Sorry to keep you waiting, Ryouya-kun. The porridge is ready.”
“It’s hot, so eat slowly.”
“Thanks. It looks delicious.”
I picked up the spoon to eat the porridge they’d placed on the table. But maybe because of the fatigue, even the spoon felt unusually heavy and eating was tough. Reona and Riona watched me for a while, exchanged glances, and then suddenly said something outrageous.
“…Hey, Ryouya-kun, want us to feed you?”
“Wait, that’s a bit much…”
“No need to hold back.”
Even though I was seventeen and felt awkward about being fed, they seemed totally into it. From past experience, I knew just how hard it was to stop them once they got like this, so I had no choice but to accept their incredulous offer.
“…Alright, I’ll let you feed me then.”
“Good boy.”
“Ryouya, open up.”
I opened my mouth and took a bite of the porridge Riona offered me on a spoon. The gentle flavor spread through my mouth, warming up from the inside.
“Yeah, it’s delicious, but still a little too hot to eat comfortably.”
“Okay, I’ll cool the next one down a bit more.”
After saying that, Riona scooped up some porridge, and both she and Reona started blowing on it together. For some reason, the way they looked doing that seemed oddly seductive. I found myself staring—and before I knew it, my lower half started reacting.
Thankfully, the blanket hid it, but if they noticed, I’d definitely be branded a pervert. I had to keep it hidden no matter what.
“I think it’s cooled down now.”
“Ryouya, say ahh.”
The porridge Riona fed me was at a perfect temperature this time. We repeated the process a few times until I finished the whole bowl.
“Oh, right. I heard that a cold gets better faster if you pass it on to someone else. Do you want to try that?”
“…Just out of curiosity, how exactly do I pass the virus to someone else?”
“A cold virus spreads through contact with mucous membranes. So if our mucous membranes touch, it should work.”
“That means if we and Ryouya-kun have a deep kiss, we’ll definitely catch the cold.”
“No, no way. Not happening.”
I was already suffering enough with the fever. Don’t go making insane suggestions now. What if it made things worse?
“Aww. I thought it was a brilliant idea though?”
“If you change your mind, let us know.”
Saying that, Riona handed me some water and cold medicine. I didn’t think I’d change my mind, but I chose not to say that out loud.
“Alright, Ryouya-kun. Take this and rest up for today, okay? We’re heading home now.”
“Don’t overdo it. Get well soon.”
“Thanks, both of you.”
After seeing Reona and Riona leave the room, I lay back down in bed. I stared blankly at the ceiling until a wave of drowsiness suddenly hit me hard, and I drifted off. In the end, my cold was gone by the next day, so I managed to avoid wasting too much of my precious summer break because of the cold.
