Chapter 47 The Hero’s Father Visits the Brothel
◆
Croix, having left the inn, was heading towards the northern district of the port town of Acreana. Despite the fact that this was a regular occurrence for him, he still drew curious glances from the people around. After all, it was not every day that a massive, muscular man over two meters tall walked through the streets.
To move from the touristy southern district to the port district in the north, Croix had to traverse a wide boulevard stretching a hundred meters across. Given the distance between the tourist area and the port, the street was always bustling with both residents and tourists. The vibrancy of this place never seemed to wane with time.
Once Croix passed through this grand boulevard and turned onto a more secluded street, the crowds vanished as if by magic. The noise of the bustling area faded into the distance, giving the feeling of being cut off from the outside world.
As he continued down the street, the atmosphere shifted further. The road was populated solely by men, and alluring women stood around as if beckoning to them.
This was the red-light district—a place where the desires of men and women swirled together, a city of indulgence.
Even in this district, Croix’s imposing presence did not diminish. On the contrary, his physical prowess became even more pronounced, causing men to shrink back and women to be drawn to him. Nonetheless, Croix paid no heed to the attention and walked confidently until he stopped in front of a particular building.
This building was notably larger and more lavish than the others in the red-light district, exuding an air of superiority.
Croix tilted his head and surveyed his surroundings.
“This is strange. It was supposed to be a run-down brothel before.”
This was clearly not the brothel Croix remembered from before. It had either closed down or been sold off. Regardless, he needed to enter and find out.
When he opened the door and stepped inside, an elderly man at the reception desk was taken aback.
“Well, this is a surprise. Is that you, Lord Croix?”
“Hmm? …Garnos, is it?”
“Yes. It’s been a long time.”
The elderly man—Garnos—bowed respectfully.
“You’ve aged. Have you had a lot of worries?”
“Haha. The passage of a decade or so is enough to make anyone grow old. But you seem unchanged, Lord Croix.”
“Muscles solve everything. It’s the secret to maintaining youth.”
“That’s an interesting perspective.”
Garnos laughed cheerfully and guided Croix to the reception room. It was no longer the tatami mat and low table from the past. Instead, the room featured plush carpets, intricately decorated chairs and tables, and ornate furnishings and artworks adorning the walls.
Croix took in the room and then turned back to Garnos.
“Since you’re here, it means the place hasn’t gone out of business, right?”
“Indeed. Thanks to Nax’s skills, it has become the highest-class brothel in Acreana. If you wish, I can have a few women selected for you.”
“I only bed with Wiel.”
“Ho ho ho. You two are still such a close couple. Please wait a moment. I will call for Nax.”
Garnos bowed respectfully and left the reception room. Croix felt somewhat out of place and looked out the window.
Men walking with their arms around women’s shoulders.
Men being led by women into dark alleys.
Two men fighting over a single woman.
Honestly, Croix would never get used to this kind of atmosphere, no matter how long he lived.
After a short wait, a woman entered with a tray holding glasses, accompanied by a polite knock.
Her beauty was such that even the term “breathtaking” seemed inadequate. With her pure white skin, emerald green eyes, long blonde hair, and distinctive long ears…
This was none other than a high elf, known for their longevity.
Croix recognized her immediately.
“Wait, you’re… could it be Sakya?”
“Yes, Lord Croix. It’s been a long time.”
Sakya, the high elf, flashed a radiant smile. Recalling his memories, Croix remembered that when he first met Sakya, she was still a child. She had been found collapsed on a beach in Acreana and was rescued by him and Wiel.
After leaving her in the care of Nax, a trusted friend, he had not heard much about her since…
Now, she had matured physically to such an extent that, if Croix didn’t know Wiel, who was considered one of the most stunning women around, he might even feel a flutter in his heart.
(This is the first time I’ve seen a high elf mature like this… I see why nobles would want to have one.)
Croix waited for Sakya to place the tea on the table before speaking.
“It’s been a long time, Sakya. You’ve grown so much.”
“Yes. It’s been nineteen years, six months, and eighteen days since then.”
“Th-that’s specific…”
“High elves have excellent memories.”
Sakya puffed out her chest and let out a pleased, “mufu,” with a proud huff of her nose. Her eyes, however, carried a hint of expectation.
Whenever Sakya looked at him like this, it was a sign that she wanted praise.
“Unfortunately, I’m not going to pat your head anymore. You’re not at that age anymore.”
“I am at that age! High elves live long, but I’m still quite young!”
“Is there such a thing as a young child with this much allure?”
“Does it excite you?”
“Not really.”
“Oh, really…!?”
Sakya got down on all fours and drooped her head.
Croix thought to himself, “She’s grown into quite an interesting person,” with a sense of amusement.
“Ugh. Even though customers offer huge sums to buy me out… I guess I just can’t compete with Lady Weil…”
“You’re still several tens of thousands of years too early to challenge Weil.”
“Even a high elf would be a skeleton in several tens of thousands of years!?”
“Being slender is good, isn’t it?”
“I’ve never seen anyone describe bones as slender!?”
Amidst their playful banter, Croix realized something.
“Customers? Sakya, are you a courtesan now?”
It felt quite complex to think of a girl he had known since she was little as working as a courtesan.
“Oh, no. My father… Lord Nax considers me like his daughter, so I’m just helping out at the store. But…”
“So, men keep coming to propose to you because of your beauty?”
“Well, thanks to that, we do get a lot of customers, so I’m very happy about that.”
But Sakya let out a quiet sigh, clearly troubled. Croix wanted to help, but there was little he could do.
