Chapter 49: Aria-san Wants to Be Lovey-Dovey!
As part of our usual training, we had been practicing fire magic for about half an hour when Aria-san spoke.
“Hmm, I think that’s enough fire magic training for now… It’s almost noon, so we should probably head back to the lodge—”
“Then next, we’ll practice water magic, right?”
“Huh? Oh… uh, yeah.”
Aria-san seemed a little hesitant, and she was fidgeting about a bunch, but it didn’t seem like it was anything serious. I decided to focus on my training instead of worrying about her behavior.
After another thirty minutes of water magic practice, just like with the fire magic, Aria-san spoke up—this time, a little faster.
“Okay, that should be enough for water magic, right? It’s already noon, so we should head back to the lodge—”
“Next is ice magic training, which is connected to water magic, right?”
“…Y-yeah.”
Again, Aria-san seemed hesitant and a bit restless, but I didn’t think much of it and continued my training. Then, after another thirty minutes…
Aria-san suddenly spoke quickly and with a lot of energy.
“I think that’s enough ice magic! If we’re going to practice lightning or wind magic next, we should eat lunch first! You need to refuel too! You know, eating lunch will definitely make the training more effective, right?!”
“You don’t have to say that with such urgency… I was planning to stop for lunch anyway since it’s already noon.”
“Huh? Y-you were? That’s a relief… You always seem like you’ll keep training forever, Adin-kun.”
With a sigh of relief, Aria-san finally seemed ready to say what she really wanted to say.
“Alright! Let’s hurry back to the lodge!! Come on!!”
“O-okay.”
Though she emphasized it so strongly, I was already planning to go back there, so I followed Aria-san to the lodge. Once we arrived, she set down her things and said:
“Finally, we’re alone in the lodge, just the two of us~!”
“We were alone in the guild training grounds too…”
“Yeah, but someone could’ve shown up at any moment over there. This is totally different! Being alone with you in the lodge feels so much more special! Ah~ I’m such a bad mentor… Even while you were working hard on your training, I was just thinking about how I wanted to come back to the lodge and be all lovey-dovey with you—But!”
With that, Aria-san suddenly launched herself at me, hugging me tightly as she continued.
“I held back! I didn’t interrupt your training as a mentor, so I deserve this as a reward, right? Don’t I deserve it?!”
“Hugging me is a reward?”
“Yeah! It’s the time when I feel the happiest…”
“In that case, as much as you want.”
“As much as I want?”
“…Wait, what?”
Ten minutes later.
“Adin-kun~!”
Twenty minutes later.
“I could hug you forever~.”
Thirty minutes later.
“Hugging you like this really warms my heart…”
And then… an hour later.
For the entire hour, I’d been wrapped in Aria-san’s arms.
“I take it back! Saying ‘as much as you want’ was my mistake! Please, let go! I want to eat lunch and get back to training soon!”
As I finally voiced my desire to resume training, Aria-san pouted and raised her voice.
“You’re always talking about training and training! Which is more important to you, training or me?!”
…Even now, my desire to become stronger to keep my promise to that silver-haired girl hasn’t changed. But right now…
“I want to train so I can become strong enough to protect you, Aria-san… In other words, I want to train for your sake. So, you’re more important.”
“…! If you’re doing it for me, then I’ll make sure to train you properly so you can stay strong and healthy, no matter what monsters you face.”
“Thank you so much!”
Blushing slightly, Aria-san gently released her hold on me. After that, we had lunch together, though Aria-san remained red-faced and a little absent-minded the whole time.
Once we started training again, however, she returned to her usual self—kind, caring, and serious about helping me improve.
Aria-san really is such a kind person.
