For I Am A Side Character - 43: Side Mission Completed
Deep in the tunnels, with the moss green lights that glow above the ceiling and the sights of monsters roaming the tunnels, two hunters were found racing through with the intentions of finally ending this whole ordeal.
“How much farther?” asked Audrey as she ran at a pace faster than that of a horse.
“It shouldn’t be far now…he said that the dungeon boss should be at the lowest end of this tunnel. Once the green moss starts turning to a different color, we should know that its nearby.” said the sergeant as he continued at the same pace as Audrey.
“…” in the silence that was brought by Audrey, the sergeant turned curious.
“What’s wrong?”
“…I don’t get it, who is that guy? What’s his identity?” asked Audrey with a frustrated gaze.
“What do you mean? Is it because he knows a mysterious amount about this dungeon despite its location being underground? I mean its not that far-fetched if you asked me. I know a few hunters who would find dungeons found in some really sketchy places and they would usually take advantage of it by keeping it for themselves and get rich by the end.” he said.
“Yeah, it would normally work with a normal dungeon, but this is a locked dungeon. It should be by common sense that once a hunter finds out about this dungeon, they should report it to the authorities…” she asked.
“Well, maybe he has his reasons for keeping it a secret.” said the sergeant.
“…You clearly know who this person’s identity is…tell me, does he go to this school?” she asked.
“…it wouldn’t be right for me to say.” said the sergeant.
“You didn’t say no. From the way he tries to hide his voice and and his stature, I could say that he’s probably a 2nd year or a third year.” she said in her own assumptions.
“Huh, and why did you think that?” he asked.
“Its not possible for someone other than that grade to survive this tunnel and fight b-ranked monsters.” she said.
“Really? But I know a certain few that could.”
“Its not Jason Emory because I saw him up in the surface and its also not Conner O’neil because I believe that he isn’t the sort of character to jump into this dungeon.”
“How about John Bishop?” he asked.
“John Bishop is a man of a distinct nature. Other than his over-acted nature of his belief towards God and his accent that forms under a certain minority, he is a close combat warrior that mainly battles with his fist. He does not use a sword or a shield for that matter.”
“Hmm, you sure do know a lot about the top ten students in the first year batch.” said the Sergeant as he smirks towards the girl.
“I have to, one of them might have the possibility of overpowering me in the academy.”
“Hmm, and what about the recent student that was able to beat Jessabelle Morrison in a duel? Have you taken him into consideration?” he asked.
“.…”
“…Wh-”
“Soril Remus only won by sheer luck in the duel.” she said as she sounded somewhat jumpy when saying this person’s name.
“Really? I saw him fight…he’s capable and also because he is my student, I know his worth.” he said.
“…”
“well anyway, It should be in front of us. Be ready.” said the sergeant as he starts to bring out his spear.
As they continued to run, they finally came upon the change of the colors of the moss, from green to blue, and the sight of a door that holds the very body of the dungeon boss.
“What did that person say about the boss?” asked Audrey.
“I don’t know, he didn’t say anything about the boss, so we’ll just have to see for it ourselves.”
“..right.” in that call of this moment, as soon as O’riley came and touched the door, it opened by its function and with it, it showed the two of them the sight of the dungeon boss.
Covered in moss from its tip to its toe, the sight of a fearing giant that stood up to 20 feet was simply awaiting their very presence. Its genderless figure was carrying no weapon, yet its body that was filled with a vibrant moss showed a dangerous aura that made sure that anyone who walks in would feel the dangers it carried even at its own simple presence.
A mere giant covered in moss.
And behind the queen stood another door that would ultimately lead to the end of this dungeon. And with the door was a lock that simply stops anyone from moving forward.
“…That’s the boss and behind it must be the door that moves to the shrine.” asked Audrey.
“It sure does look like it.”
As they brought out their weapons to face the dungeon boss, in recognition of their entrance into the room, the boss monster formed its body into a more threatening form. With spikes popping out of its back and its form changing from a genderless figure to that of a raging Dragon’s head, and only its head, made Audrey feel nervous by its ability.
[You have Entered the Boss Room]
[Defeat the Great Moss Queen!]
“What the hell is that?!” asked Audrey as she felt the fear being induced by the dragon headed moss queen.
“It must be a shape shifting monster. Something capable of copying the abilities and forms of other monsters. I’ll take the lead and end this early, you provide cover.” said the sergeant as he puts his A-Game on.
“I understand.” said in Audrey’s agreement.
As soon as they walked in, the Queen’s dragon head immediately breaths out fire and to it, the two both went in separate directions to avoid the attack. One went left and the other went right.
Dashing at great speeds, the Sergeant pulls out one spear and launches it at a distance with a force of a bullet.
*Fwoossh~!*
*Thud*
In an instant, the spear struck the dragon’s head, and it took the force of its throw to push the dragon’s head back like so.
‘Hmph! To think that I would face another dragon at this time of my life…how ironic it is. But its durability is more tougher than I could have imagined…’ thought the sergeant as he was seen grinning from ear to ear.
In the chance that the spear was able to push the deadly head back, Audrey used this chance to try and aim for its neck.
With it being open for a kill, Audrey dashed forward and took her bravery to a higher level.
[Lightning Skill: Lightning Step.]
With a step so fast, she was instantly in range for the kill. But in that range, she was also in the kill from the boss. The moment she sheathed her sword out, and coated it in her element, all of a sudden, another form of a monster was coming out of the boss.
Although it seemed like Audrey had the chance to attack, she was instantly interfered by the sudden grab of a giant tentacle.
“!?”
With its slithering form, wrapping itself all over Audrey’s body, she was foiled from her attack.
With it, it gave the moss queen the chance to end her then and there. It lowered its head down and formed a fire breath ready to breathe out and eliminate her.
“Khk!” as Audrey struggled to escape the tentacles, out of nowhere, the sergeant came and attacked the monster from above.
[Spear’s of triumph: Raining Joy]
In the form of his attack, three dozen spears fell from the sky and struck down on the moss queen like it was a rain. A rain do painful, it instinctively made the queen let go of Audrey. And In this intervention, the queen was stopped from its attack, and instead it looked up and aimed its breath to the sergeant.
*Kraaahhhh!!*
With its shrieking voice, it shot its roar of fire up to him, leaving the sergeant vulnerable to the attack.
With him falling from mid air, the fire breath came and struck him straight, but to this attack, the sergeant came out unscathed by the fire, the sergeant continued falling down with his spear.
“This is not enough…” he said as he falls with a graceful gaze…
“I was once known as one of the great dragon hunters…people called to us in the same situation when a pest like you reaches fort. When a pest like you runs amok…its time to put you back to where you belong.”
In his say, he chanted forth his skill…and he summoned a spear that was radiating with light that simply overshadowed everything in the room…
“I’m a damn S-class…someone who is an expert in dealing with you lizards…and for you to be a mere head of what was what a dragon could be, you are nothing.”
[Gallahad’s Call]
As he lets go of his spear, it shot straight down…and it simply eradicated everything in the way…
The moss queen died in that single shot and what was left was the sergeant standing ever so unfazed by the boss…
The only thing left by the queen was its still beating heart left shaking on the floor.
“Hmm, the boss’s core…” as the sergeant approached the heart an stomped on it with his own feet, the heart reacted…and in its last will, it made a distinctive beat that rung across the entirety of the dungeon. But at the moment it called by its last will, the sergeant was able to stab the core with his spear.
“Hmm, I know this enough to see what would happen next.”
With his experience, he knew that a monster would have something up its sleeve to at least bring down the hunter. In this moment, he knew that the boss would call forth a command that would probably call in the monsters all over the dungeon and into this room, creating a stampede of monsters.
And because of his experience, he was able to kill of such a call…
The heart was only able to do one thing…a small call for help…
It wasn’t enough to act as a call for a command…it was simply a plea.
In this moment, it showed Audrey the difference in power, skill and experience as a hunter…
Sergeant O’riley was an S-ranked hunter who truly deserved such a title.
“Okay, now that this is over, lets wait for the boy to come back with the key.” he said as he then sits by the Door leading to the shrine.
They waited for minutes on end…and when the boy finally came back, Audrey was shocked to find that the stranger was wearing a noticeable helmet when entering the room.
“…How long did you guys wait?” he asked ina muffled voice because of the helmet.
“We waited for about twenty minutes…what took you so long?” asked the sergeant as he stood up from the floor.
“Some bastard was guarding the key, but I took are of it.” he said as he then went and approached the door.
Now, as Soril took out the key, he stared at the key hole and felt an utterly ominous feeling from the key and the keyhole.
“Hmm, okay then.” as he pushed the weird key into the slot, all of a sudden, a voice rung out in the room.
“Wait!” said a voice of a man that came from the entrance of the boss room.
It was the crazed mage who stood ever so shocked by the sight before him. The heart was found impaled by the spear and the moss-filled mage who stood in the sight of it all, cried.
There was no longer a boss in the room…no longer a queen to rule over the dungeon…
What remained was the sight of three hunters about to open the room.
“.…Haa…you monsters…you killed her…”
“…Why are you here?” asked the sergeant.
“I heard her final call…to think that I could have…you bastards…” in his weeping figure, the mage simply fell to his knees and soon, the moss that was distinctively covering his body, showed a trait…a parasitic trait.
“Hmm, I don’t like the look of his body. He looks completely different than he was in the surface…he’s covered in moss like the boss.” said the sergeant.
“Hmm, he wont be as strong as he was in the surface. You guys can deal with him.” said Soril as he went and pushed the key in.
“And how can you be so sure?” asked the sergeant.
“The reason why he was so strong in the first place is probably because of his parasitic relationship with the dungeon boss…now that the boss is dead, he is just an average mage.” as Soril explained himself, he turned the key and opened the door.
In this action, he had succeeded in completing the dungeon…and forward to this action, the Mage was now completely out of power.
“…You…how did you find the key?” asked the mage as the moss was slowly devouring his entire body.
“…” but in his question, Soril remained standing with his back turned.
And in this rebellious act, the mage was enraged.
“…you rat…YOU RAT!!” in his shout he ran forward with a bloodlusted gaze.
And in his acts, Audrey came forward to deal with the rage-filled mage.
And instantly took his head.
“Khk!” the mage fell to the floor and to this, Audrey came and faced Soril with a curious gaze.
“What are we going to do now?” she asked.
“We’re ending this.”
With it, he fully opened the door…and to it, it revealed the shrine that stood to God’s power.
Before the shrine stood a book that contained the rewards for completing this dungeon. A book that contained a skill befitting of this dungeon’s nature.
“Okay lets go in.” as the sergeant and Audrey stepped in to look all over the shrine, Soril remained at the entrance, nervous of what was about to happened.
‘…my 3rd main mission was about conquering a dungeon…I did it, so that means that I was able to complete the main mission and the side mission at the same time…would God allow this to be as such?’ as he asked himself this…he stepped forward.
And by this act…by his actions, time has stopped entirely.
And with it, Soril was met with God’s figure.
“…So you’re here.” said his voice as he went and sat by his shrine.
“…You were able to put a side mission and a main mission in the same completing state…does that mean that I was able to complete the two?” he asked as he turned to Audrey and the Sergeant standing ever so unmoving by the God’s will.
“I’ll allow it.” said the voice as he stood with a smirk on his face.
And by his will, the system showed Soril that he has completed his current missions.
