“Ike-sama, there’s something I need to discuss with you.”

Arisa, who had been waiting for me in the office, said so with a serious expression on her face as soon as we entered the room. See? Just as I thought. By ‘something’ she actually meant ‘problem’. It seemed Melcott and Gal had taken the initiative to show Arisa into my office. I would be using this room to do my work going forward and the first person that I welcomed in this room was the Saintess. I felt like crying… Of course, in a bad way. 

“What is it this time, Saintess-sama?”

I asked and Arisa gave me a smile.

“Ah, please just call me Arisa. I believe we’re close enough to be on first name basis, aren’t we?”

How could she have the audacity to say that with a straight face? Sure, I had received some favor from her, but we were not close by any means. I hoped she would stop saying misleading things like that. 

“…Very well. Now then, Arisa, what do you need from me?’

I asked and Arisa let out a small sigh before she responded.

“Do you know about the existence of ‘Demon Lord Worshippers’, Ike-sama?”

“Demon Lord Worshippers… What about them?”

She must be talking about a group of people worshiping the Demon Lord that my father mentioned before we departed for the Kardi region. I didn’t expect Arisa would initiate a conversation about the Demon Lord Worshipper with me. 

“Do you remember the bandits that attacked Comet Village? We interrogated one of the bandits and apparently, they were a Demon Lord Worshipper.”

Rather than ‘interrogation’ it must be closer to ‘torture’, but I decided to keep my shut about that part. Bringing their method of extracting information would just make things more complicated. 

“I see…”

“Furthermore, after more interrogation, we found out that those Demon Lord Worshippers have established their base somewhere in the Kardi region.”

Arisa sighed again. 

“And here’s our problem. After confessing everything, the Demon Lord Worshipper that we interrogated suddenly died. He must had been cursed to prevent him from leaking too much information…. Of course, there’s a possibility that his confession was actually a trap that had been set out by the Demon Lord Worshipper.”

Indeed. The Demon Lord Worshippers in Fortune Lover tended to take a more dramatic method. It wouldn’t be a surprise if this was actually a trap. However, there was another thing I needed to tell Arisa first. 

“So? I hope you don’t forget that even though I’m the lord of this region, but I’m still a citizen of this kingdom. My service is not cheap, you know?”

I didn’t need to go after the Demon Lord Worshippers yet. Messing with them was similar to poking a hornet’s nest. Although they were the one that tortured Luna in the original Fortune Lover story, but I could keep Luna safe as long as we stayed close together. 

“….If it’s something within my power, I will do anything to get it for you. Besides, don’t you think we should help each other out in times of trouble?”

Did she just say ‘anything’? That being said, there was nothing I particularly wanted from her. 

“I see. I will think about it.”

“Thank you.”

Arisa slowly bowed her head. 

“By the way, did you know anything about the Demon Lord Worshipper beforehand? Especially if they actually have a base in the Kardi region or not…”

“There’s no way I would know about that. I just arrived in this region today. However… If there’s anything that might pose a threat to my happy married life with Luna, I will be sure to defeat them. “If they truly want to turn a new leaf, tell them to come to my territory. Also, can you give me the list of the bandits that we captured last time? I should at least give them a chance to live a new life.”

“As expected from Ike-sama. It’s truly regrettable that we didn’t realize how good of a person you are sooner.”
