Chapter 16: The Hero of [Resurrection] Accepts the Beastmen’s Migration
“I’m bored.”
“…”
“…I said, I’m bored!!”
“It’s not like I didn’t hear you!!”
It had been a few weeks since Ayla and Zona left for the Ixion Kingdom to gather intel.
And honestly? I was dying of boredom.
Well, “bored” didn’t mean I wasn’t doing anything.
I was still fending off the endless waves of monsters to keep leveling up, breaking up fights between hot-headed heroes, and reviving heroes from the past…
If anything, I had more than enough on my plate.
But once you get used to repeating the same things over and over, the spare moments in between just feel… dull.
Truthfully, I wanted to march out of the abyss right now and launch an attack on the Ixion Kingdom.
But ignoring the majority vote—especially as the leader—wouldn’t look good.
So instead, I ended up whining to Meimei, who happened to be nearby—
Only to get scolded.
“As the one leading everyone, you can’t just leave the base whenever you feel like it!! Things aren’t like before—we’ve got way more people here now!! Do you even realize how many are living in the abyss at this point!?”
“Two hundred forty-six.”
“…Okay, I’ll give you credit for remembering the exact number.”
Lately, I’d been in pretty good form—managing to resurrect two heroes a day, and on good days, even three.
That’s why our numbers had grown so much, even though it hadn’t even been half a year since we fell into the abyss.
…But that was exactly why, whenever I looked at the massive piles of bleached hero skeletons still scattered around, one question kept gnawing at me.
Isn’t this… way too many?
Sure, the Ixion Kingdom had an absurdly long history.
But down here, even a rough estimate put the number of corpses at well over a thousand.
Thanks to my [Resurrection], the current situation was completely abnormal—but normally, heroes were supposed to exist one at a time.
A new one wasn’t born until the previous hero died.
Even if the Ixion Kingdom had been executing heroes every fifteen years like clockwork, the numbers didn’t line up unless they’d been at it since before the age of myths.
It was just too many.
Could there really have been some proto-Ixion-like country, way back before nations even existed, pulling the same stunts?
…No, that felt like too much of a stretch.
After brooding over it for a while, my brain leapt to a wild conclusion.
“…No, there’s no way.”
I shook my head, dismissing the thought.
And just then, Silesta appeared at my room.
“Mister, got a report.”
“Hm? Did something happen?”
“Iltar just got back from the beastman settlement. The beastmen asked him for some advice.”
“Advice?”
We’d been keeping in regular contact with the beastman settlement.
Ever since the giant tower was built, the abyss itself had started to feel more like a proper base—almost like a small village…
But of course, we still lacked a lot of essentials.
So we set up a trade system: we handed over monster parts and other materials harvested in the abyss, and in return, the beastmen provided us with whatever we were missing.
Basically, good old-fashioned bartering.
Since Iltar—the Hero of [Immortality]—was a smooth talker and great at negotiations, he’d been the one in charge of handling all those trades.
But now… what was this consultation about?
Tilting my head, I went to meet Iltar, only to find him with the beastman chieftain himself.
“Ohh!! Lord Elott!! It is wonderful to see you in good health!!”
“It’s been a while, Chief. But… why have you come all the way down here?”
“As a matter of fact, I bring a serious request.”
The chieftain’s expression turned grave as he spoke.
“Lately, many in our settlement have grown fearful of the kingdom’s soldiers. They are clamoring that we should relocate.”
“Ah, you mean they want to move into the abyss?”
“Oh heavens, no!! Perish the thought!! Sir Iltar told us this place is the capital of the great nation of Elott, yes? We would never be so ungrateful as to demand a place in your capital!!”
“Wait, wait, wait!! Nation of Elott!? Since when do we have a country named after me!?”
“My, is that not correct? Sir Iltar told us you established a nation, with the lowest floor of this dungeon as its capital…”
Well, yeah, technically that’s true!!
But seriously—“Nation of Elott”? Come on!! There’s gotta be a better name than that!!
I’ll just grab a few of the less-busy heroes later and make them brainstorm something.
“Anyway… where exactly do you want to relocate to?”
“To the land around the tower. We’d like permission to build a new settlement there. We probably won’t be able to continue our bartering for a while, though…”
“Oh, that’s fine. But honestly, right now we’re in the middle of a war with the Ixion Kingdom. Living near the tower would be way more dangerous than staying here. We don’t mind if you move directly into the abyss instead…”
“Oh heavens, no!! We couldn’t possibly trouble you to go that far for us!!”
“No, seriously, it’s dangerous out there. Please don’t hold back—just stay in the abyss!!”
“No, no, no, no!!”
“No, no!!”
Just as we were locked in this ridiculous back-and-forth—
“Fuuhahaha!! I heard everything, Elott!! Sounds like it’s finally my time to shine!!”
“T-That voice… Laverne!?”
“That’s right!! It is I, the genius dungeon producer, Laverne!!”
…Pro-… what now?
She must’ve picked up some random knowledge from Shizukuishi again.
But more importantly—
Her voice was echoing across the entire abyss in a triumphant laugh, yet her actual body was nowhere to be seen.
What the heck was going on here…?
“Fuuuhahaha!! Surprised, are you!? I heard about these ‘microphones’ and ‘speakers’ from Shizukuishi, so with the help of the Hero of [Sound], I went ahead and made them!! The abyss is huge, after all!! Having a way to communicate across it isn’t such a bad idea, wouldn’t you agree!?”
“R-Right… that’s actually pretty convenient. So, uh… what exactly did you mean by it being your ‘time to shine,’ Laverne?”
“Truth is, I was very displeased with how the Ixion army attacked our tower from the outside. So I thought—why not surround the entire area with a massive wall and turn it into a city-style dungeon!? If it’s an outdoor dungeon, then all we need to do is leave the gates open, and those fools who don’t understand romance will just waltz right in without even realizing it’s a dungeon!!”
“Wha—this is the first I’m hearing of this!!”
“Of course it is, I just said it for the first time!! As for you beastmen, I’d like you to live inside this brand-new dungeon city!!”
“Ohh!! That would be a blessing!!”
“And in case of emergencies, I’ll also be installing a teleportation circle—the very one Raishis finished analyzing the other day—so you can evacuate into the abyss whenever needed. Safe and secure! Let’s all enjoy dungeon life!!”
After that bold declaration, Laverne’s voice faded away.
…Well. Okay then.
“In that case, we’ll be counting on you going forward, Chief.”
“And the same from us, Lord Elott. Ah—or should I say, Your Majesty the King?”
“Please don’t. That’s embarrassing.”
And so, it was decided that several dozen beastmen from the settlement would relocate.
…What really shocked me, though—
By the very next day, the tower was already surrounded by massive walls, and a sprawling, maze-like city had been completed.
Well, “city” might not be the best word.
It was clearly a labyrinth—just cleverly arranged so the buildings resembled an ordinary town at first glance.
The enclosed area was enormous. Not only did it have housing, but there was also enough space to set up farmland for food production.
The Hero of [Field] was probably going to lose his mind with excitement.
…But just a few days later, we’d learn that another country’s army—not the Ixion Kingdom’s—was already marching toward our tower.

The Chieftain
An elderly beastman of the cat tribe. He worships the Hero of [Cat], who once saved their people, and spends his time carving wooden figurines in her likeness.
The funny part? Those figurines are insanely popular among collectors all over the world.
