- Chapter 67 - The committe is unable to evaluate
The committee is unable to evaluate
”This is the mind of Me~, zamasu. Are you able to comprehend it, zamasu?”
Zamasu asked the members of the committee with a triumphant look on his face. But many of the committee members’ eyes were rolling in their sockets, and didn’t have a clue as to what he said.
”By the way, this explanation is something that the wise nobles of the world can of course comprehend. It can’t be that the committee members of the Grand Festival of Sorcery can’t understand it, can it, zamasu?”
Zamasu said so as if confirming. The committee members looked at each other and remained silent. It seems that Zamasu was trying to prevent them from asking unnecessary questions.
”Nah, I really didn’t understand a thing. I’d like you to explain it again in a short, easy-to-understand way.”
But a strong voice cut through the silence. Heim raised an objection to what Zamasu had said.
”Wha-! Didn’t you hear me, zamasu? This explanation can be understood by many great people all over the world, zamasu!”
”Uhm, I didn’t understand it either. I feel the same as Heim. Could you please explain it again in an easy-to-understand way.”
Toa followed after Heim and asked for the explanation again. Zamasu groaned “Wha-!” angrily.
”No, that’s why what this Me~ said is indeed noble, zamasu. That’s why—”
”You’re smart, right? Then you should be able to explain it more clearly.”
”Guh!”
Zamasu was taken aback when Heim cut in while he was talking. Then Zamasu’s eyes looked towards Dowal, and Dowal’s eyes said “Explain it”.
”C-, can’t be helped, zamasu. In short, it means we’re in the middle of building an innovative stadium that is futuristic and in harmony with nature, zamasu.”
”I see. So then, when will it be finished?” (Toa)
”Of course, it will be finished by next year’s grand event…” (Zamasu)
”When is that? It looks to me like you’re still busy with demolition, but will you be able to start the construction and successfully complete this innovative stadium?” (Toa)
When Toa asked, for a moment, Zamasu showed a troubled face, but immediately replied with a triumphant expression.
”Of course, zamasu. There’s no problem, zamasu.”
”I see. By the way, what is an innovative stadium in harmony with nature like in the first place?” (Toa)
”That’s a secret right now, zamasu. You’ll have to look forward to it later, zamasu.”
”That’s troubling. We’re the management committee, so we need to know what it looks like before its built.” (Heim)
Zamasu thought he managed to push through by telling Toa that it’s a secret, but frowned at what Heim pointed out.
”Don’t worry, we’ll clarify the details without taking too much time. The only thing that I can tell you, is that the stadium we’re building will move even the elves to tears. It will be so beautiful and in harmony with nature that the elves will be able to come watch the grand event in peace.” (Dowal)
Dowal explained to the committee members on behalf of Zamasu.
”The elves will be delighted?”
Murmuring so, Toa’s gaze coincidentally moved towards the pile of logs piled up next to the planned stadium construction.
”… do those logs have anything to do with it?” (Toa)
”You will have to see that later as well, zamasu.”
”How long is later? We can’t afford to wait too long…” (Toa)
Toa tried to get confirmation, her expression troubled. The grand event’s opening was also approaching, so they’d be troubled if it was kept a secret until just before.
”Then… I’ll try to make it clear in one month. How’s that?” (Dowal)
”Fumu. Then shall we bring an elven committee member along with us as well at that time, princess?” (Heim)
”Yes… then we’ll come back here in a month’s time to check the situation. As for what Heim said, we’ll have the elven committee member Iskisse accompany us.” (Toa)
”… understood, then I’ll keep that time in mind.” (Dowal)
Then, having arranged with Dowal, the day’s inspection came to an end. But that girl had one concern. That log. They said that the elves would be delighted by it.
Elves are indeed a nature-loving race. However, she had a slight concern that they had misunderstood the meaning of that.

”Wh-, what did you say? Say that again!” (King Carcel)
”Hence, we really can’t evaluate with how the current state is. The townscape that I’d heard rumours of is currently nearly non-functional as a city due to the accident.” (Toa)
Toa spoke clearly in front of the king. After the inspection, all the committee members were guided to have an audience with the king and report.
This was currently the evaluation from the committee.
”H-, however, that’s not such a big deal! Where the hell were you bastards looking! Does everyone in the committee have holes for eyes! Is something wrong with you bastards’ heads!” (King Carcel)
The management committee was miffed after hearing what he said. Although he was the king of the whole country, no, because he was the king of the whole country, hearing him use such abusive language was unbelievable.
”Your Majesty, please calm down just a little bit.” (Dowal)
”Shut up! In the first place, it’s because you weren’t firm enough!” (King Carcel)
”Oh my, isn’t all this infighting rather unseemly?” (Heim)
”What did you say? You’re merely a knight, know your place!” (King Carcel)
”Your Majesty. We have been entrusted with control of the Grand Festival of Sorcery. While Heim is my knight, he is also a member of the committee. I have no recollection of such a reason being acceptable.” (Toa)
Toa spoke to the king admonishingly, and the king groaned “ugugu” and clenched his fists hard.
Dowal held his head at the situation. He already knew it, but this king was still not a king’s vessel. [TL: normally this means stuff like, being very tolerant or magnanimous, or generous.]
However, that’s why this was originally convenient for Dowal. If the king’s capability was bad, then the minister’s standing would naturally rise. It looked like Dowal’s predecessors also understood that.
The king at that time also had similar conditions as this time. The king had died suddenly, and his legitimate son succeeded him. But the king back then didn’t make any decisions himself. He thought it’d be fine if he just left it all to his ministers and did as he pleased.
Although Dowal didn’t know if the irritated king before his eyes was any better than one that didn’t say anything.
In any case, Dowal’s predecessor’s were good at what they did and gained power. Although the dwarves leaving the country that time was the sole thing beyond their expectations—
”Anyways, I hadn’t been able to meet the brilliant magic architects I’d heard about this time around. Let’s hope for that. Besides, I was told that they would be able to present something in some form or other in a month’s time, so we shall do the evaluation then.” (Toa)
”Guh, un-, understood!” (King Carcel)
The king gave a careless reply. He held back his bad-tempered manners with all his strength.
”… by the way, regarding the absent magic architect, did he go by ship to another country?” (Toa)
Recalling so, Toa asked. Dowal showed a reaction to that.
”Why the hell would you think that?” (Dowal)
”Yes. As a matter of fact, on our way here at sea, we were attacked by a sea dragon, but thanks to the help of an unusual ship, we were able to escape.” (Toa)
Dowal’s expression clouded.
”… did that person give a name?” (Dowal)
”No, he said he didn’t need to give his name and left. Come to think of it, he had a brownie with him as a familiar. It was quite the ship, ahahaha!” (Heim)
Heim gave a hearty laugh as he recalled that. On the other hand, Dowal’s complexion began to change, and the king’s expression warped after hearing this.
”Ku-, dunno! That man!” (King Carcel)
”… is that so. Then please excuse me.” (Toa)
Toa tilted her head at the sight of the king’s sudden yell, but the conversation ended there, and they later left by ship.
On the other hand, the king had been out of control soon after, and his rage was pointed at Dowal.
”What the hell’s that! You didn’t deal with that trash!” (King Carcel)
”M-, my deepest apologies. It seems there was a blunder somehow.” (Dowal)
Dowal was flustered. Come to think of it, the pirates had yet to show up, but never had he thought they had failed.
”Anyway, do something about that garbage immediately! It’s absolutely outrageous for him to have anything to do with the Grand Festival of Sorcery’s management! And then he’ll tell them white lies! This country’s dignity will be severely degraded!” (King Carcel)
”You just brought that dignity down yourself not too long ago!”, were the words Dowal swallowed down, and instead replied “Understood”.
Then after leaving the king’s presence, Dowal’s shoulders trembled as he swore.
”Since it’s come to this, I’ll rely on the Dark Guild to eliminate that idiot!”
—— Time till the Grand Festival of Sorcery’s management committee’s reinspection, one month…
And that’s the end of Volume 2: The Undeveloped Island. Unfortunately, I’ve decided that I’d rather not continue onto the LN, mostly because it would simply feel too disconnected to me, as well as possible legal issues. I’d like to thank you all for sticking around for this journey, despite my less-than-satisfactory translations. Still, it was a good learning experience that will help me later on.
If there is anyone of you reading this who would like to continue the translation, feel free to DM me on Discord or Disqus. I can send you my chapters, incomplete glossary and such if it helps.
I’ll most likely pick up another WN after this; I haven’t decided yet what it’ll be, but I’m aiming for some crafting types. However, I suspect that for quite a few of you, this might be our last time, and so, I wish you all the best.
