Pirone had also accepted the condition to clear a dungeon immediately upon request.
Before I was brought into the Ministry of Dungeons, it was mostly Samejima-san who handled the eastern half of Japan. But now, with Pirone and me joining in, the three of us shared the workload, making things considerably easier.
However, separate from that, Pirone had a habit of wanting to raid dungeons herself.
“Here! We’re going to take down this dungeon!”
On a day with no particular plans, as I was absentmindedly scrolling through a map app while vaguely considering the global expansion of Dungeon Convenience Stores, Pirone suddenly approached me and held out her phone. A map app was displayed on it, showing a dungeon located somewhere in Europe.
It would take about twenty hours by air. That was, if we were to take a commercial flight. If I transformed into a dragon and flew there myself, we could arrive much faster.
“Let’s go, Jiro!”
“Why?”
“Why? Because I want to go!”
“Have a nice trip.”
“Why aren’t you coming with me?!”
“Why do I have to go? You can go by yourself.”
“Like I would know how to get there on my own!”
“Not my problem.”
What is this former goddess even saying?
“Besides, there’s no way you’d be allowed to leave the country on your own right now.”
“Which is exactly why I plan to sneak out!”
“Not interested. Too much trouble.”
“Please!”
“No.”
“Ugh… Fine. I’ll give you all the magic stones we collect!”
“Hmm…”
“I always manage to collect plenty of magic stones, you know? So? What do you think?”
“We’ll be back by evening.”
“I know, I know!”
And with that, we headed off to that certain country in Europe. After concealing ourselves, I transformed into my dragon form, climbed to a certain altitude, determined our direction, and flew straight there.
“Ugh—Hiiiih! C-c-c-cold!”
“Deal with it.”
“Cold, cold, cold, cold!”
She was screaming, but I ignored her. I was in a hurry. And just like that, we arrived at our destination in one go. From there, I made small adjustments to our flight path and eventually reached the city where the dungeon was located. The same method I had been using to set up Dungeon Convenience Stores in every prefecture worked on a global scale as well. Good to know.
“Jiro… Do you have something against me?”
“The fact that you can ask that with a straight face makes me a little jealous of your mental fortitude.”
I said, looking at Pirone, who was shivering with ice clumps stuck to her body.
“Huh? Was that a compliment?”
And yet, she still said things like that. Her mental resilience was truly something else.
Why, though? Well, whatever.
Even though this was her first time overseas, she didn’t bother doing sightseeing and went straight into the dungeon.
“So? Why did you want to raid this dungeon?”
“Oh, right! This is a Shenhari dungeon!”
Pirone said, puffing up with anger.
“Shenhari?”
“A goddess, my junior. That infuriating brat. Because of her, my hundred-year dungeon was destroyed!”
“A hundred-year dungeon. That means…?”
“Yes, the dungeon you were in, Jiro. If only she hadn’t meddled…”
“I see. By the way, do you understand why the dungeon was destroyed after I disappeared?”
“…Huh?”
“Yeah, I figured as much.”
She really had the kind of personality that seemed to have discarded the concept of “understanding” in its entirety. Thinking was not even in her dictionary. I had already researched this dungeon beforehand. It had existed in this country for ten years and was one of the oldest dungeons in Europe.
“Alright, let’s do this! Fufufu, I’m going to destroy every single one of her dungeons in this world!”
With a highly motivated Pirone leading the charge, we entered the dungeon. The dungeon had the atmosphere of an underwater cave, filled with cold, damp air. From holes in the walls, seawater with a salty stench occasionally spurted out.
The monsters that appeared were all ocean-related creatures. Giant crabs emerged from tide pools, while dartfish launched reckless kamikaze attacks. Mermen armed with various weapons charged at us, and mermaids attacked with sonic waves that could manipulate minds.
Dungeon sharks swam through the air to attack, and their more coordinated counterparts, dungeon orcas, specialized in organized assaults. A giant octopus extended its tentacles from tide pools, ambushing us.
“Fufufufuhahahaha!!”
Pirone, powered up with strong buffs, gleefully crushed the monsters, gathering the magic stones and drop items with her magic. Shen then absorbed them into her item box without missing a single one. It was honestly impressive.
“Why don’t you use that magic for attacking?”
I asked out of curiosity. She had to be highly skilled in magic. If she could use telekinesis without even looking at her targets, she must also be simultaneously using magic for blind-spot coverage and spatial awareness. With such abilities, she should have access to a wide range of spells. And yet, her combat style was purely brute force.
Did she have a reason for this? …No, she probably didn’t.
“Huh?”
As expected, Pirone simply tilted her head in confusion.
“Isn’t punching just the fastest way?”
“Well, yes.”
I had to admit that was true.
“And it feels great, doesn’t it?”
“Fair enough.”
I could understand that sentiment too.
“See? Punching is the way to go.”
“I see.”
It seemed like she didn’t even consider using magic for offense. Well, it didn’t really matter. Whenever she punched an enemy, the brass knuckles she used and the magic around her hands seemed to change attributes accordingly, so it wasn’t like she was fighting completely mindlessly.
…Or was she just doing all of that instinctively?
“Completely driven by intuition.”
That was the kind of existence Pirone was. Somehow, it made sense.
At the end of the dungeon, the final boss awaited—a monster named Orcanus, a half-human creature with the head of an orca. Wielding a trident, it led a horde of dungeon orcas. But none of them were a match for Pirone. With her telekinetic-powered, three-dimensional movement and her one-hit-kill punches, the dungeon orcas were swiftly defeated.
Even Orcanus, who stood as their king, was taken down without much trouble.
“Ahhh, that felt great! Alright, let’s head back.”
With a satisfied expression on her face, Pirone and I exited the dungeon and returned to Japan.
“GYAAAAAAAAH! COLD!!”
The fact that she completely forgot about the freezing journey back… Yeah, that was just typical Pirone.
