ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
When I muttered that she was a goddess, Minister Niitaka immediately shouted.
“Everyone, leave!”
“Samejima-kun too! Hasegawa-kun, you stay here and handle this! I’m leaving the questioning to you!”
“Understood.”
Things had turned into quite a commotion. It seemed that even Minister Niitaka had decided this was not something he could recklessly approach out of curiosity. After all, she was the being who created dungeons and brought me into existence. It was understandable that she would be considered extremely dangerous by Minister Niitaka and the others.
“Well then.”
The goddess was still asleep. Or to be precise, she was sprawled out on the floor. Should I call out to her and wake her up?
“Goddess-sama, it’s already morning.”
Though in reality, it was already past noon.
“Ugh… Huh…?”
The goddess groaned.
“What is this? I feel awful. My body feels so heavy…”
“Ah, well, you seemed to be having a hard time when you summoned the Seed of Ruin.”
“Ueh? Oh, now that you mention—Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!”
She suddenly bolted upright.
“Dorajirou!”
“Hello, Goddess-sama.”
“You! Why are you alive!?”
“The Seed of Ruin was strong indeed.”
“No way… You actually defeated the Seed of Ruin…?”
She looked completely incredulous, but since I had actually done it, there wasn’t much else to say.
“Wait, hold on. Why am I in the same place as Dorajirou…? Wait, huh? Huh?”
The goddess suddenly jumped to her feet and formed some sort of a gesture with her right hand—thumb and pinky extended, the rest of the fingers curled inward—then held it to her ear.
Why does that shape feel strangely nostalgic?
“Yes, yes! This is Piroane speaking!”
“Oh, that’s actually a phone call?”
But then, who exactly is she talking to?
“What? No way! But! That was unavoidable! It was all because of Dorajirou! No, I mean, yes, but still! Dorajirou! Dorajirou! Ah! Wait! Please wait! Aaaaahhhhhh!”
Watching her, I felt a very specific kind of secondhand embarrassment—like seeing someone getting their final warning from their boss. And then, it seemed the call was cut short.
“Ugh…”
“I don’t really understand, but… My condolences.”
Seeing the goddess collapsed onto all fours while looking completely dejected, it was clear that something bad had happened.
“Ugh, shut up! This is all your fault!”
“That kind of thinking won’t solve anything, you know? Shifting the blame onto someone is a very impractical thing to do. “
“Then what am I supposed to do!? Uwaaaahhh!”
She suddenly burst into tears.
“Well, why don’t you at least explain the situation first?”
“…You really have no intention of comforting me, do you?”
“Are we in that kind of relationship where I should comfort you?”
“I took care of you so much!”
“…When was that?”
“Who do you think made you this strong!?”
“That would be my own effort and ingenuity.”
“I was the one who provided the foundation!”
“And you were also the one who kicked me out.”
“Ughhhhh…!”
“Why don’t you just give up and confess already?”
“I was stripped of it.”
“Huh?”
“My divinity! My godhood was revoked! Uwaaaahhh!”
And then, she started crying again. So that call earlier—was it from someone above the goddess? Well, it was true that this goddess had never radiated the slightest bit of dignity befitting the ruler of the world.
“A goddess without divinity… I’m just left with being beautiful, graceful, intelligent, and strong!”
“Your self-esteem is higher than the sun.”
What is happening right now?
“Well, it can’t be helped now. Dorajirou, I command you to take care of me.”
“And why exactly would I obey that command?”
Hahaha~ This was getting interesting.
“Why won’t you obey my orders in the first place!?”
“Isn’t it because you already got fired?”
It’s honestly painful how little she learns. Oh, a call on my phone.
The caller was Samejima-san.
“Hello?”
“It’s Samejima. Everything okay over there?”
“No problems. This goddess seems to have already lost her divine power. In terms of ability… She’s about the same as you, maybe a little weaker.”
Now that I think about it, the goddess has been speaking Japanese naturally.
That meant communication wouldn’t be an issue. If she could only use the universal language, that would’ve been inconvenient in its own way.
Samejima-san entered first, followed by Minister Niitaka. They must have decided that minimizing direct contact with an otherworldly being like a goddess was the safest course of action—none of the awakened guards had been brought along.
“This is Piroane-san, a former goddess. She also happens to be my former boss. This is Minister Niitaka, a minister of this country and this is Samejima-san.”
I took on the role of mediator.
“A minister? Why didn’t someone more important come?”
“Hasegawa-kun, you say she’s your former boss, but if things go south, will you protect me?”
“Of course. Snapping her neck would be quite easy.”
“That’s awful!”
Since she was no longer a goddess and we now knew her name, I would call her Piroane from now on. Minister Niitaka must have sensed her actual strength as well.
However, the fact that even a human like him could gauge her power meant that Piroane had weakened significantly. Bringing up Samejima-san as a point of comparison was somewhat arbitrary, but it wasn’t entirely inaccurate.
“Dorajirou! Why are you siding with the natives!?”
“This is what I was trying to talk about with you, Piroane.”
“What!?”
“Before you reincarnated my soul, I lived on this Earth, as a human in my current form.”
“…Huh?”
“You act like you’ve done me a great favor, yet you know nothing about me. You expect people to obey you just because of your position, assuming that submission is a given. That attitude is exactly why no one follows you.”
“Ugh… Uuuuu…”
“For now, I understand what kind of person Piroane-san is. Thank you, Hasegawa-kun.”
Minister Niitaka stepped forward in front of Piroane.
“What?”
“I would like to have a discussion about your future. Do you mind?”
“Hmph! Acting all high and mighty for a mere native. I am—”
“Indeed, I am just a human and my authority extends only to that of a minister. However…”
Minister Niitaka’s eyes gleamed sharply.
“I do have enough power to determine your future. For example, I could keep you locked away in a room where no sunlight reaches or turn you into a test subject.”
“A test subject!?”
“After all, you are not human. You claim to be a goddess. Wouldn’t it be fascinating to learn what secrets you might hold?”
“I-I have no secrets!”
“But you are a goddess. That means you have no human rights. As a mere human with nothing but the modest authority to decide your future… Would you be willing to have a conversation with me?”
“P-please go easy on me.”
Trembling, Piroane began answering Minister Niitaka’s questions.
I see. So this is how negotiations are done. Seeing this firsthand is quite an educational experience.
