ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
The only sound in the instructor’s office was the steady tick-tick-tick of the clock. Ittou stared straight into Heike’s eyes, which were fixed firmly on him.
“I want you to teach me about the Original.”
That was all Ittou had asked. There were countless ways to learn about it. Even if he wasn’t used to searching online, the information was out there, and he knew he’d eventually study it once he advanced to the next level. But even so, Ittou wanted Heike and Raigou to be the ones to teach him right now. That was why he refused to look away.
If it took hours of staring to get his resolve across, he was prepared for that.Maybe because the walls of the instructor’s room were so white, Heike seemed to drift farther and farther away the longer he looked. Even so, Ittou widened his eyes, refusing to miss a single movement.
Heike didn’t use the mystic eye hidden under her eyepatch to look into him. Had she used it, she could have seen through Ittou’s heart via the flow of his magical power. But she didn’t. Ittou understood that she wanted to judge him by what she saw in his face alone.
After what felt like several minutes to Ittou, Heike slowly leaned back against her chair and exhaled.
“…Phew… All right. I’ll teach you.”
Her words were short and simple—but to Ittou, her eyes, her expression, her entire presence overflowed with a quiet kindness. Still kneeling in a deep bow, he lowered his head even further.
“Th-thank you so much!”
When Ittou raised his face again—Heike was gone. He blinked in surprise.A powerful aura—stronger than before—pressed against his back, and Ittou stiffened. Heike had moved in an instant.
He knew it was her signature spell, one that let her slip into shadows—but this time, he realized something more. This was her Original. She moved silently, instantaneously, circling behind her target and at the same time, she conjured something powerful enough to annihilate an enemy outright.
At last, Ittou truly understood how incredible her magic was. It was something far beyond the reach of ordinary mages. Sensing his realization, Heike smiled faintly, then sharpened her expression and placed a hand on the door.
“So, what did you three come here for?”
A small, familiar voice gasped, “Crap,” followed by two others stammering, “Uh, um—!” just before Heike pulled the door open.
“Kyaaa!”
Falling right through the doorway were Kanna and Kusumi, and behind them, Anri, trembling and frightened. Ittou’s eyes went wide.
“Wh-what are you three doing here!?”
Kanna pouted.
“What do you mean what? Come on, Itsukushima-kun, it’s obvious, right? There are three of us, aren’t there?”
Raigou chuckled mischievously, gave Ittou a light pat on the shoulder, and winked toward the girls. Still sprawled awkwardly from their fall, the three nodded at her with determined eyes—the same kind Ittou had shown earlier.
They too had witnessed Kondou’s strength, felt Ittou’s frustration, and wanted to grow stronger. Raigou smiled proudly at that and then rested an elbow on Heike’s shoulder, winking again. Heike brushed her hand to swat her away, scratched around her eyepatch, and heaved a deep sigh before turning back to the group.
“After school—come to the training room. I’ll teach you there.”

A few hours later, after class ended, the group gathered in the training room, lined up before Heike, waiting for her to speak.
“First, the difference between Unique Magic and Original. Kanzaki. You know this, don’t you?”
“Y-yes! Unique Magic refers to one’s most specialized magic among the four primary attributes—fire, water, earth, and wind—and the twelve sub-attributes beyond them.”
Kanna answered crisply, like a model student. Anri and Ittou gave a small round of applause, while Kusumi and Heike nodded several times in approval.
“Correct. As the body and mind develop, each person’s magical traits diverge. The magic type with the highest measurable value becomes that individual’s Unique Magic. In some cases, it also includes the manner in which that person excels at using it. For example—Kujuukuri’s metal manipulation. Within the metal element, her control ability is exceptional, so that became her Unique Magic. That said, for men, the differences are usually too weak to measure clearly. In other words, Unique Magic is the ‘strongest magic determined by others.’”
Something about her phrasing struck Ittou as odd. He looked up sharply and saw Heike grinning as she pointed at the floor. The moment they glanced down, the shadow beneath her feet swelled with a roaring boom, engulfing Heike and the students in an instant. They were sealed inside a massive cube of blackness.
“Shadow Box (Black Box).”
As Heike spoke the words, an overwhelming pressure of magical power filled the air, crushing down on them. Ittou realized that countless weapons were about to emerge from the black walls, each one powerful enough to snuff out their lives in an instant.
Supporting the trembling Kanna and the others, Ittou looked up at Heike.Within that cube of darkness, the master of its power smiled.
“An Original is a magic you create and define for yourself. If you can do that, then all of you can become much, much stronger.”

T/N: I thought Original (オリジナル) and Unique Magic (固有魔法) are the same since JP likes to add English name to their JP name and the English name can have different literal meaning from the JP name. I already made corrections. You can read back from Chapter 50 if you want to see the edit.
