The Daily Life.
School started yesterday, so I’m back to work part-time from today. It was an early morning job from 5:00 to 8:00 before school started. Originally, I would have liked to work after school, but that was not allowed yet.
“Mizuguchi-san, good morning.”
“Good morning. I heard you collapsed and were hospitalised, are you okay?”
“Yes, but thanks to your blessing, I’m fine now.”
“I’m glad to hear that, but don’t overdo it, okay?”
“Yes.”
After exchanging a few words with Mizuguchi-san, I went into the back of the store to prepare for my part-time job.
“Oh, good morning, Akikaze.”
“Good morning, Kuroshima-kun! Why didn’t you let me know that you were back on track!?”
I greeted Akikaze when she arrived and she reacted nicely. I wanted to surprise Akikaze without telling her that I would start working again today. Akikaze had sent me a sympathy message while I was in the hospital, so I had asked her to join me in exchanging messages online to pass the time while I was in the hospital, and now that I’m out of the hospital, it’s still going on.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I forgot.”
“Oh my god! Who do you think was working the shift in place of Kuroshima-kun?”
“Head of the staff?”
“It was mostly me!”
“Just kidding. I really appreciate your help on that. Thanks.”
I had been informed when I was on the phone with the manager that I would be starting my part-time job again today. The manager told me to thank Akikaze for filling in for me for most of my shift.
“So, you’ll have to buy me a drink sometime!”
“Haha… Guess I owe you one.”
“Yes! I’ll have a special strawberry custard crepe from the crepe shop in front of the station! By the way, it’s only 1,200 yen!”
What’s with the crepes that seem to be ridiculously high in calories for such a small name….? In addition, each crepe costs 1,200 yen. ….Well, it looks like I gave Akikaze a lot of trouble, and that might be just fine.
“Okay.”
“I’ll let you know when I’m free again.” With that, Akikaze punched-in her time card and headed out the back toward the cash register. I followed suit and punched-in my time card and went to work for the day.
After three hours of early morning work, I headed to school with Akikaze, but we got separated on the way because we went to different high schools. I arrived at my high school about 10 minutes later. When I entered the classroom, Miyu was already there, reading a book. She looked up and smiled at me when she noticed I was here, and I gave her a slight nod.
…It seems like a lie that a month ago I had never even talked to Miyu. It seems like we’ve been friends for a long time now. I’m not sure if it’s because Miyu’s attitude towards me is becoming more casual or not.
“Good morning Kazuya! Don’t show off in the morning!”
“Good morning and what are you talking about?”
“The other guys didn’t notice, but I didn’t miss the two of you making heated eye contact!”
“What’s heated eye contact?” ….Is it so hot that just exchanging eye contact burns your eyes? I don’t want to do that. It’ll definitely hurt.
“….I’m sorry. You’re definitely thinking about the wrong thing, right?”
“What?”
“Huh…”
I don’t know why Shinya is so dumbfounded, but I guess it doesn’t matter because it’s probably nothing important anyway. As Shinya and I were chatting in our seats, the homeroom teacher came in and the morning homeroom began.
After that, school was over without any problems, and I went home to have dinner with Miyu and go to bed. After such a peaceful cycle of days for a while, that enemy was just around the corner …It’s the natural enemy of high school students, the devil with four English letters that start with t and end with t. Yes, the test was coming up in a week….
