Chapter 25 Turn Me Loose, Im Dr. FeelGood 6
With Kodara, Isara, and me, there would be no issue creating the Sword Chiyonovagna. The problem, however, was the number of people who wanted it.
Though it was said that just one Azure Sword Chiyonovagna would be enough…
Right after the audience ended, a General of Makiano brought a barrel full of Steel Baikaron. And following him, other generals also showed up.
Perhaps they had been collecting it, thinking a day like this would come, because a small mountain of the supposedly rare Steel Baikaron was piled up.
“Fu of the Wasteland, can we please ask you? It is the dream of every man in Makiano to wield the Azure Sword Chiyonovagna…”
“It has been our wish since our ancestors’ time!”
Normally, if such important people said that much, I might have reluctantly agreed, considering our relationship with Makiano.
But now, by my side was a woman who would bluntly reject such requests.
“No. I haven’t heard anything about that.”
Sitting deeply in her chair, swinging her crossed legs, Harriette told the generals so.
Perhaps the generals couldn’t go against the daughter of the Leader, because they were desperately trying to push back, all while sweating profusely.
“But, Lady Harriette…”
“Fu is busy. He’s newly married.”
Though she says “newly married,” there’s nothing really to do.
After all, I’m still ten years old, and she’s twelve.
But her words seemed to have an immediate effect on our kin.
The generals left, flustered, and I spent a leisurely time drinking tea with her in the quarters I was lent to sleep in during my time as a blacksmith.
“Harriette, you know…”
“What is it? And, I’ll allow you to call me by a nickname, just for you.”
“Then… Ria?”
“You’re going to take that part of my name? That’s strange. Do all people from the south do that?”
She said that, narrowing her eyes and smiling as if amused.
“Ria, you’re heading to the wasteland soon. Are you going to be okay?”
I didn’t bother asking if she was okay with the sudden marriage.
In this world, it’s completely normal for parents to arrange their children’s marriages.
Of course, it’s also common for the husband to send his wife back home if things don’t work out, or for the wife to return to her family.
“The maids were talking. You started a trading company connecting the wasteland and the grasslands, didn’t you?”
“Well, it just kind of happened.”
“If that company can get me what I need from here, I should be fine. But I don’t like places without tea or a bath.”
“Then, I’ll make sure your tea and bath are the responsibility of Fushanklan.”
I could import tea, and providing enough water for a bath wasn’t impossible.
Since she was leaving her home and coming to Tanukan, I wanted to fulfill her wishes as much as possible.
“And… if it’s not a boring place, that would be even better. From what I’ve heard, it doesn’t sound like a very fun place.”
That was something I was also quite concerned about.
“I’ll work to make it an exciting place.”
“Oh, really.”
Without saying whether she was expecting much or not, she elegantly sipped her tea and continued.
“For now, I’ll take care of your meals and tea.”
That comment surprised me. I thought noblewomen wouldn’t handle such dirty work…
“Even the greatest hero would die if they were poisoned. You have to be careful with what you put in your mouth.”
I see. Perhaps it’s a culture where noblewomen, because of their status, personally manage the most crucial things themselves.
“It wouldn’t be much of a story if someone like you, who’s called the Lao Kan of this era, were to die from poison given to you by a relative, just like Lao Kan.”
As she said that, she smiled with a seductive grace that seemed far beyond her twelve years, looking like a painting as she sipped her tea.
The next day, Kodara, the rock-dwarf blacksmith under my command, began forging the Azure Sword Chiyonovagna.
We quickly finished making the sword steel, Chiyono Metal, but since the materials and shortcuts used here and in Tanukan were different from what we used there, I honestly wasn’t sure if it was turning out well.
When I asked Ria if I could have some of her hair, she handed me a few strands that had fallen out while combing, saying, “What a luxurious sword.”
Since the Azure Sword Chiyonovagna is for the Makiano tribe, it made sense to use materials from the Makiano princess.
We couldn’t get baby teeth, so we substituted them with a bird’s beak and some paint ingredients.
The sword steel, Chiyono Metal, turned out to be a dark, bluish black, emitting a rather dull glow, different from the emerald sword steel.
“Lord Fusha, this one’s a bit different from what we made in Tanukan. It’s blue, not green.”
“The one from Tanukan had less steel Orichalcum in it. But since it’s called the Azure Sword, maybe this is the original color. Anyway, just go ahead and try it. We’ve got plenty of materials.”
“If I fail, put in a good word for me with those folks watching over there, okay?”
“I can at least do that much.”
Around him, there was a huge crowd of onlookers, as though every blacksmith in the country had come to watch.
We’d been told from the start that there would be observers, and the method for forging the Azure Sword Chiyonovagna wasn’t exactly a secret.
Now that the word had spread that an alchemist could make it, these blacksmiths would likely start forging their own from here on.
“Tell them to stay back, it’s dangerous.”
“You can watch, but keep your distance. You’re getting in the way of the smithing.”
When I said that, the blacksmiths who had been peering closely at Kodara’s work pulled back a little.
“It would be faster if you just banned them from the smithy altogether.”
As Ria quietly said that, the blacksmiths retreated three steps, as if a tide had gone out. As expected of a princess—her words carry weight.
Now Kodara should have an easier time working.
“Hey, are you planning to just watch here the whole time?”
“Oh, uh… I was thinking of leaving the rest to Kodara.”
“Then let’s go shopping. We should buy the things they don’t have over there, right?”
“Yeah, let’s do that.”
In the end, during the few days Kodara was forging the Azure Sword Chiyonovagna, I was taken around to various places by Harriette…
And I got to learn a little more about both the town of Tsutomuporita and Harriette herself.
