Chapter 1 Prologue
I wonder how many people in the world wish to experience something like being reincarnated in another world.
There may indeed be many people who wish to go to paradise or start their lives over again.
In my previous life, I, too, often read novels from the genre of “isekai” as a brief escape from my suffocating life, which was filled with nothing but work.
An ordinary person is reborn into a world different from this one, gains special powers, and lives freely and without constraints.
What I enjoyed reading were mostly those kinds of simple and entertaining stories.
One character would go on adventures that made his blood boil, ascend to the throne while holding a beauty who made you want to embrace her.
Another would tame a powerful yet charming magical beast and transform a barren land into fertile and beautiful terrain.
The more convenient and unrealistic the story was, the more I enjoyed it. The more outlandish it was, the further it took me away from the everyday life that rushed by so busily.
However, that was because the story was fiction.
It was enjoyable precisely because it was a world unrelated to my own.
“Oh, wanderer who sets off to my world, speak the power you desire.”
“No way…”
I, who thought I had lived my life properly, now found myself in the midst of a typical “isekai” reincarnation scenario.
I had never once thought I wanted to go to another world…
Surely, in that other world, there would be no beloved isekai novels, no anime, no manga, no cars, and no ramen.
I was about to be thrown into such a hellish world.
Nevertheless, since I was quick to adapt, given the nature of my work, I immediately pulled myself together and asked:
“So, what kinds of powers are there?”
“Speak, and it shall be so.”
A pillar of light answers my question.
“Are you a god?”
There was no response.
“Then, can I have the power to summon things from my past life?”
Clinging to a sliver of hope, I clasped my hands together and made my request to the light.
If I could get books or food from my past life, I might be able to enjoy myself a little, even in an unfamiliar land.
“That power does not exist.”
I was crushed.
“Then, how about the power to buy things from my past life…”
“That power does not exist.”
I guess that makes sense.
“Then, please grant me the ability to translate languages!”
Next, I thought about the power of translation, which would allow me to easily read local books and such.
With that power, I could probably curry favor with the nobility and never go hungry, or so I thought.
“That power does not exist.”
What came back was a cold, dismissive response.
“Um… then, how about an item box?”
“That power does not exist.”
“So, what kind of power do you have?”
“…………”
There was no answer.
It seemed this pillar of light was some kind of automated response system.
“Then… teleportation!”
“That power does not exist.”
“All-element magic!”
“That power… no longer exists.”
Oh, the pillar of light’s response changed.
“Wind magic!”
“That power no longer exists.”
“Unlimited money supply!”
“That power does not exist.”
“Fire magic!”
“That power no longer exists.”
It seemed like skills were given on a first-come, first-served basis.
And from the way things were going, it was probably safe to assume that I wasn’t the only one being reincarnated into this world.
“Are there other reincarnators besides me?”
“…………”
There was no answer, but I thought it would be better to operate under that assumption.
With that thought in mind, I continued to ask the pillar of light for every skill I could think of.
“Baseball!”
“That power does not exist.”
“Tamer!”
“That power does not exist.”
“Creation!”
“Your virtue is insufficient.”
Virtue, huh… If it’s about virtue, then of course I don’t have enough.
Well, I don’t think of myself as an especially admirable person, so I’m fine with that.
“Companion!”
“That power does not exist.”
…How much time had passed since then?
I wracked my brain for every bit of knowledge I had, but I was still no match for the efforts of those who came before me.
I was about to give up and reincarnate as an ordinary person, but it seemed that I couldn’t be reincarnated without acquiring some kind of skill.
Exhausted, I collapsed to the floor, occasionally muttering words that came to mind, until… a breakthrough came.
“Fire magic… special skill.”
“That power does not exist.”
“Fire magic… deluxe skill.”
“That power does not exist.”
“Fire magic… great skill.”
“That power does not exist.”
“Fire magic… mastery skill.”
“That power no longer exists.”
“…Whoa! The mastery skill is possible! Then… earth magic mastery skill.”
“That power no longer exists.”
“Water magic mastery skill.”
“That power no longer exists.”
“Wind magic mastery skill.”
“That power no longer exists.”
“Alchemy mastery skill.”
“I shall grant it.”
“What… mas… Whoaaaaa!!!”
Lying on the floor, I jumped up at those words and pumped my fist in the air.
Next to the pillar of light, a swirling portal appeared, like a doorway to a journey.
“Alright! Now I can finally get out of here!”
“You still have virtue remaining,” said the pillar of light.
But I had no intention of staying here a moment longer.
Anyway, if I got greedy at a time like this, I felt like the little virtue I had left would only drop even further.
With that thought, I put my hands together and bowed to the pillar of light.
“That’s enough. Just put it into whatever you think is best. Thank you for putting up with me for so long.”
“Then I will add it to your base stats.”
“That’s fine, thank you, God! I’m off!!”
Not wanting to stay in this space for even a second longer, I shouted those words and, with a running start, leapt into the vortex.
…
“Ultimate Alchemy, using one million virtue. Adding the remaining 1,145,141,919 virtue points to base stats. Rolling Start: Half, Half, Full, Half, Half, Full, Full. All points added to Charm and Charisma. To the wanderer, I bid you a good journey.”
