- Chap 72: Promptly Vanquishing the Demonic Menace
“Here we are. Ugh, it’s crawling with bugs. So gross. Ew!”
“…Indeed.”
“Ahaha, Lafia, you look so scary!”
“…Do I really?”
“Yeah, like you’re about to kill someone.”
“Well, I’ve already killed a few demons.”
Alma and Lafia, having received information from Horus, arrive north of the resort entrance, where the forest is dense. Their path is limited by the trees, but they easily navigate through, gracefully dodging the branches and slicing through the demons attacking from the front.
“It should be easy to find the source of these demons. Just follow their trail.”
“Right.”
Even as they speak, Alma and Lafia continue to effortlessly cut down demons. To them, these predictable, numerous foes are no more challenging than targets.
“Ah!”
“…”
Their expressions suddenly harden, and they stop.
“Here it comes…”
“Yes.”
They look ahead, alert.
Seconds later, a heavy thudding sound approaches. Breaking through the trees, something massive appears.
A three-meter-tall demon speaks in a strained human language, filled with clear hostility.
“Wow, this one’s bigger and looks stronger than the others. Maybe it’s a guard or something? Right, Lafia?”
“Alma.”
“Hmm? Ah… I’ll leave this one to you and go ahead to find the source.”
“Please do.”
Sensing Lafia’s readiness, Alma decides to move forward.
Leaping effortlessly over the giant demon’s head, Alma is suddenly attacked by dozens of smaller demons.
While still in mid-air, a place where movement is usually restricted, she twists her body and, with her spear, easily slashes through all the attacking demons, landing gracefully.
“Mr. Giant Demon, you shouldn’t be distracted by me, see?”
Alma smirks dryly.
The giant demon, impaled by two swords, stands motionless. It’s Lafia’s Excalibur.
Blood gushes from the wounds as Lafia twists her swords mercilessly, then slashes upwards and sideways, dismembering the demon.
After Alma disappears from view, Lafia confronts the demon’s remains.
“If you’re going to revive, do it now. I’d prefer to finish this quickly.”
The demon’s flesh twitches and starts to reassemble into a human form, transcending a mere demon.
The creature, now a monstrosity with a twisted face of exposed flesh and numerous red-black eyes, attacks with its six thick arms. Lafia easily deflects the blows, her movements minimal.
She lunges forward, getting behind the creature.
“Die now — Excalibur.”
The thrust seems fatal but stops midway; the creature’s body turns into a gel-like substance, absorbing the attack.
Lafia retreats, assessing the situation.
The creature’s eyes whirl madly, its body twisting grotesquely.
“Disgusting…”
Lafia’s expression is cold as she mutters.
“But the sudden change into a gel form is troublesome. Not that it’s a pinch. Anyway… I’ll make you disappear quickly.”
In her right hand, a sword gleams with light; in her left, a sword as dark as shadows. Lafia, with both swords ready, stares up at the monstrosity with a piercing gaze.
