After rebirth, I confessed to the losing heroine - Chapter 24- Was it you?
[Breaking News!]
[The abandoned cathedral near the city border of Tokyo, which was said to be an infected zone, was under heavy gunfire last night. Local authorities arrived nearly the end of the chaos and nothing but the dead bodies of one hundred thirty-four wanted assailants were found on the site.]
[Further investigation shows, that all these members belonged to an infamous group named, ‘Garis Claw’ which has been involved in several illegal activities for the past eight years.]
[The fact that these gang members were normally spread across Tokyo, Yokohama, and Osaka, yet found dead at the same place, signifies that the gang was planning something big. It is a terrifying revelation that these assailants had illegal Russian-supplied firearms and equipment.]
[The leader of the group wasn’t found anywhere despite the thorough investigation, neither was the malefactor behind the massacre.]
[The most terrifying part of this incident—There was only a single entity involved against the assailants which caused so many deaths; which raises the question: Is the Japanese government nurturing a secret agent to clean all the ‘trash’ through an illegal process? Should we praise or fear this entity? Should we feel safe or cautious while living inside our own house? Numerous queries, yet no one coming in front to provide any answer.]

*TIK*
Switching off the TV, the man of the house—Shirogane Souma turned to look at his wife and daughter.
There was a frown on his face as he spoke in a heavy voice, “So it’s true. Our family was being on their target…and those maids were helping them.”
Early in the morning, it was one of the butlers who found the dead bodies of eight maids piled up in a single room before the said butler called for their master immediately.
Souma used his resources to do a private investigation, ready to make the aggressor pay for his sin of killing these maids, who were like family members.
However, the investigation went in a different direction, entirely. The research said that these maids were regularly contacting an unknown number and upon inspecting their bank records, they found out that these eight maids had been getting their accounts filled with ridiculous amounts for three months now.
From there, it didn’t take long for the investigators to join the link and conclude how these eight were involved with some kind of organization who were planning to attack the Shirogane mansion, today.
After that, all the servants’ belongings were thoroughly checked and the whole mansion was inspected for any surveillance.
Fortunately, apart from these eight members, there was no traitor inside the place, and in the name of surveillance then there were several small cameras in the living room.
“How can they do this to us…didn’t we treat them like our own?” Lady Shirogane had been weeping since morning up on finding that her personal maid was also involved in this. Also, the girl whom she treated just like her daughter—Kasumi, was the main leader of this small group.
Surprisingly, Miyuki seemed a lot calmer than Souma expected her to be. After all, it was Kasumi who betrayed them.
“Please calm down, Mom. We should look at the brighter side of this matter.” Miyuki spoke in her natural tone while wiping the tears of her mother.
However, her words triggered her mother and she retaliated, “What is there good in this, Miyuki?!”
“Us.” Miyuki calmly responded, without a tinge of hesitation.
It took some seconds for Lady Shirogane to understand the meaning behind that single word, which left no room for her to rebuke.
It was true that if there was something good about this incident then it was the safety of these three family members.
The attack could have taken the life of everyone present here and also the Takeda family who were coming to greet them today. However, someone came for their salvation and provided them another chance to live.
“Miyuki is right, you should look at it from a different angle.” As Souma spoke he stood near his wife and gently caressed her hair, “What matters the most is that we all are safe. So don’t cry and worsen your health, Yuki.”
It was indeed an absurd way to start the day.

[Hiroto’s POV:]
“Oh god…so many…” Sitting on the couch I and Mom were watching TV, where the news was flashing about the cathedral and such.
I knew that the news channels would exaggerate the ‘secret agent’ part but what made me wonder, was the take of the government on this.
The world where I once lived, had numerous kinds of politics. Some tried recruiting me, and some tried to annihilate me, however, nothing worked since I never left behind any trail, and even if I had left anything behind, I changed my face and identity and remained underground for a certain period, to avoid conflict.
However, things are different now. I cannot simply change my identity and spend some time with local groups to get myself off the radar. I need to be more cautious than ever before; since now, I have someone, I desire to protect at every cost.
“Oh yes, I understand. No, no it’s alright. Surely, surely. Yes, I will.” I heard my father talking to someone on the phone as he walked inside the living room.
He soon disconnected the call, only to inform us, “The meeting today with the Shirogane family has been postponed. Mr. Shirogane himself called me and was apologizing.”
I raised my brows at that. I knew this was coming after what crap I piled up back in their mansion, but for that man to apologize? I guess, he indeed was feeling himself in a lot of debt toward me.
Soon I left my parents’ side as I received a call from none other,
“How are you doing? Everything fine now?” I left Miyuki nearly at four in the morning once I heard the sound of the butler’s screaming.
Naturally, upon finding those many people dead in the mansion, Miyuki must be upset…
…or so I thought,
[It was you, wasn’t it?]
I knew what she was asking but feigned ignorance, “What do you mean?”
[The maids…you killed them, no? And all those men in the cathedral…you were involved in that as well, right?]
Truth be told, I wanted to tell her everything and gain some cookie points but well, it would be disappointing to attain her affection through some savior quest stuff. I need our relationship to develop naturally so,
“I don’t know what you are even talking about. And the cathedral? Do you think, I am capable enough to confront those many goons?”
There was a long pause from the other end when I said that, however, the next time she spoke, there was conviction in her tone,
[I don’t know why but it feels like you are not someone whom I know. You have changed Takeda-kun.]
My brows inched upward as I asked, “And…do you hate it?”
This time, the pause was even longer but her faint whisper somehow reached my ear,
[…meet me, then I will tell you.]
