Chapter 1: I Reached the Ending, So I’m Moving to the City
It was exactly one week after reaching the ending that I recalled my dream from my previous life.
Summer vacation was halfway over, and I was just thinking about starting on my homework when it hit me like a flash.
—I wanted to make games.
In my previous life, I was an ordinary first-year college otaku. I spent my days frequenting Akihabara, hunting for gal games and eroge, pouring my part-time job earnings into them.
But I had a quiet dream. Someday, I wanted to get a job at a game company in Tokyo and create the ultimate game with my own hands. A story with a happy ending that would make players feel happy—that’s what I dreamed of weaving.
But an unexpected accident cut that life short, and three months ago, I was reincarnated into this world.
As Akira Akiyoshi, the protagonist of the gal game ‘Black Tide, Great Serpent, Island of Prayers’.
Fortunately, I had already played the original game, so I wasn’t too shaken by the surreal situation of reincarnation. I managed to accept it smoothly.
But since it’s a depressing game, I couldn’t let my guard down…
These past three months, I had no time to think about myself. My sole focus was on saving the heroines, and I poured everything into that. I hadn’t even considered what came next.
But reaching the ending finally gave me some mental breathing room. That’s how I came to remember my dream.
“I’ll need to leave the island to get a job at a game company,” I muttered quietly in my room.
There’s no game company on Black Tide Island, not even a game shop.
To make my dream come true, I had no choice but to move to Tokyo. Unable to sit still, I called out to my younger sister, Mahiru, who was washing dishes in the living room.
“Mahiru, can I ask you something?”
“Big brother?” Mahiru tilted her head at the sink.
Her sleek, jet-black hair reached her shoulders, pure and untainted, while her skin was strikingly fair, almost translucent. Her large, clear eyes were a deep indigo, like an abyss, with a dangerous allure that could pull you in if you stared too long.
Setting the dishes down, Mahiru tilted her head slightly and smiled.
“What’s up?”
“I just wanted to ask you something,” I said, choosing my words carefully. It was a genuine question, meant to learn about the world beyond the island.
“Have you ever left the island, Mahiru?”
In that instant, her fingers twitched. A drop of water fell from the sponge, making a faint sound in the quiet living room.
For a fleeting moment, her eyes seemed to glint sharply.
“The island?” she asked.
“Yeah.”
“Why are you asking that?”
I was the one who asked, but she turned the question back on me.
“No reason, really. I was just curious. I mean, summer vacation’s already half over, so I thought maybe it’d be nice to go somewhere.”
Her voice was adorable, pure, yet tinged with unease, and I reflexively tried to brush it off.
“Go somewhere outside the island?” she pressed.
“Just a possibility,” I said.
Having been在上 this world for only three months, I had no memories prior to that. I was barely managing to live as Akira Akiyoshi, relying on the game’s knowledge and habits ingrained in my body.
So, naturally, I knew nothing about anything before the game’s story…
“I’ve lived on this island ever since I was little. And I’ve never had a chance to leave. Right, big brother?”
“Y-Yeah, I guess so.”
“There’s never been a reason to leave, and there won’t be in the future either. Right, big brother?”
“Y-Yeah, maybe.”
“Right?”
Mahiru leaned forward as if to emphasize her point, her intensity making my cheeks twitch.
“Then it’s fine!” she said, wiping her wet hands with a towel, her abyss-like eyes fixed on me.
“Because you promised, didn’t you?”
It was the same complex smile—mingled with anxiety and relief—that she had when I held her, bloodied, on the cliff a few days ago…
She said, “You promised to stay by my side forever!”

Lately, my little sister’s been acting a bit strange.
In the original game, Mahiru was definitely a brother-complex character, but as adoptive siblings, she kept a proper distance.
At the very least, heavy words like “forever,” “always,” or “eternally” weren’t part of her usual vocabulary.
It’s probably because I forced the all-saved ending that she’s become slightly dependent. Just a little, though, so it’s probably fine. Maybe.
For now, I set that aside. The priority was figuring out how to leave the island.
There’s a ferry dock at the port, so I should be able to find a route to the mainland from there.
I wished I had a smartphone, but unfortunately, I didn’t. Most adults on the island probably didn’t either, since there’s no cell signal here.
The reason for that lies with the influence of the three ruling families, but regardless, the lack of information sources was a fact.
The quickest option was to head to the ferry dock.
So, the next morning, I rushed out of the house.
“…It’s too hot,” I muttered.
Black Tide Island’s summer was surprisingly muggy. Mornings and evenings were relatively cool, but the long daylight hours under the blazing sun were unbearably hot.
And yet, sudden downpours were common, so a foldable umbrella was a must. It was that kind of frustrating climate.
Just walking made sweat pour out naturally.
It was about a fifteen-minute walk from my house to the port. The downhill path to the harbor was quick.
Both sides of the narrow road were lush with greenery, and the sound of waves drifted from afar. The sea, sparkling under the sunlight, was clear and beautiful.
Yet, there was a certain gloom in the atmosphere, likely due to the omnipresent signs of the “three ruling families.” From the local clinic to the diner to the island’s only convenience store, their influence was inescapable.
Love it or hate it, the island and the three families were inseparable. Even saving the heroines probably didn’t change that.
As I neared the port, the scent of the sea grew stronger. I spotted the ferry dock’s sign.
Checking the timetable would be my first step toward escape. Quickening my pace with that thought—
“Who’s this?!” a voice called out.
Suddenly, someone covered my eyes from behind. Soft hands blocked my vision, and a sweet fragrance tickled my nose.
“Senpai, where are you going so early in the morning?” a deliberately sugary voice purred in my ear.
When the hands released me and I turned around, there, as expected, was Toa Watarase.
Her light brown hair curled softly at her shoulders, faintly glowing in the sunlight.
