Chapter 43 – Night Parfait
I was stunned when I saw the data sent to me.
This is because a huge amount of reference files had been sent to me.
In order to depict one scene, I have to read about 50 pages of reference files.
Will I be able to understand it? The world should match the atmosphere sent to me initially, and I want to create the world that the author envisions.
“Hah, this is also difficult to understand.”
In order to respond to the author’s request, I read and compare the data sent to me with the content of the story written by the author, creating the illustrations repeatedly.
I have to create a completely new existence.
At the same time, it must be created in a way that gives a glimpse into the background of that era and allows readers to empathize with it.
“Youichi-san, Youichi-san.”
“Huh!! Sumire-san?”
“Yes! It’s already been eight hours, so please take a break.”
“Eight hours? Has it been that long already?”
It was nine o’clock in the morning when I sat here.
Before I knew it, it was already five in the afternoon.
“You haven’t had lunch today, so let’s have dinner.”
“Sorry! And thank you!”
I feel sorry for always being indebted to Sumire-san.
“This time, Youichi-san was concentrating even though he wasn’t drawing. He didn’t even open his mouth when I fed him.”
“Huh?”
“I’m talking about this. Are you working on some difficult problem?”
“Ah, that’s right. Actually, I’m drawing illustrations for a story about an aristocrat in another world. The requirements are very difficult.”
“Another world?”
“Does Sumire-san know about novels about other worlds?”
“Well, I haven’t read many of them.”
Hmm, I don’t know how to explain it to someone who doesn’t know, but I tried to explain about stories in another world in my own way.
It’s a story about people being reincarnated with modern knowledge in a world different from the one they lived in, where magic and unique cultural forms exist.
“I see, it’s a different world from the one we live in.”
“Yes. This time, it’s a story like a time slip. It’s about a woman who was killed going back to the past to redo her life!”
I recount the story.
“Wow.”
“Not only that, but the author is very particular about their ideas, and they sent me a lot of materials and information to create their worldview. It seems like the author really wants to express that.”
“I see, the author sounds like Youichi-san.”
“Huh? Like me?”
Because the author’s so particular, I thought they’re more like a craftsman.
“Yes! When Youichi-san works on a piece of work, he solidifies the image firmly and then concentrates deeply to draw it out.”
“Haha, I never thought about it that way.”
I had never thought of that until Sumire-san told me.
“Perhaps if the two of you meet, you might be able to work in the same direction and create an amazing piece of work.”
“Haha, I don’t think we’ll ever meet each other. I think it’s better to work with an editor in between, so we won’t clash with each other’s preferences.”
If we met in person, we might hit it off in some ways.
Artists have a difficult and bizarre thought process, which makes it difficult to distinguish their work from anything else.
“Is that so?”
“Well, it’s my first job, so I don’t really know.”
“Fufu, that’s true. But please make sure you sleep and eat properly!”
“Yes!”
I want to reread the part I just read, but it’s not good to leave Sumire-san alone.
We’ve only just started going out, so I want to listen to what Sumire-san says for now.
“Now then, since we’ve already had dinner, would you like to go for a little walk?”
“What about Youchi-san’s job?”
“Right now, I’m just trying to form some designs by reading through the data, but it’s not coming together easily, so I thought a change of scenery might help.”
“Fufu, then why don’t we go eat something sweet at a cafe that’s open even in the evening?”
Sumire-san looks at me with a mischievous look, like a child who wants something sweet at night.
I think the face she showed me for the first time is cute.
“Yes. Let’s go. Where are we going?”
“It’s a night parfait restaurant.”
“Night parfait?!”
Despite my surprise at the unexpected menu, we arrived at a stylish café still open late into the night.
“The chestnut parfait is this store’s special for autumn.”
“I see…”
“Youichi-san. Open up, ahnn~”
“Sumire-san! A-ahnn!”
It’s really embarrassing, but I don’t have the courage to refuse a spoon offered to me by a beautiful woman like Sumire-san!
In fact, I feel nothing but happiness.
“Fufu, can Youichi-san feed me too?”
“Y-yes! A-ahnn~”
“Ahnn~”
Mine isn’t chestnut, it’s peach parfait, a bit sweet but delicious.
“Fufu, sharing a parfait lets you taste two kinds, isn’t it nice?”
“Yes! It’s delicious!”
Even from the late afternoon, we were able to have a date-like outing. Just coming to the café and spending time with Sumire-san made me feel so happy.
When we finished eating and went outside, it was much colder, so Sumire-san and I snuggled up against each other and linked arms.
“Fufu, it’s warm.”
“Yes. It’s very warm.”
Just walking slowly together like this makes me feel so happy.
The sun sets earlier than in summer, and by 6 PM, it’s already dark. We walked home, cuddling together in the cold.
Despite just that, being with Sumire-san and enjoying the simple date made me feel content and happy.
