Chapter 42 – Light Novel Author 1 [Korisho’s POV]
[Korisho’s POV]
I’m getting picked up from a web posting site, and it’s been decided that I’ll debut as a light novel author.
I have a sense of the world that I want to write about, and I want to write about it with particular attention to materials from the historical background that I love, and even every single item of clothing.
However, aiming for publication, I incorporated trendy stories into the plot.
I also emphasized readability in the writing. I wanted to prioritize the fun of the characters and the story by minimizing explanations.
Instead, I want to focus on the world view, costumes, and characters.
I chose the prosperous period before the French Revolution in medieval Europe.
It was a time when costumes such as corsets and dresses were dazzling and glamorous.
The characters also have hairstyles and colors that were popular at that time.
I want to add my own personal feelings to things that have nothing to do with the story, such as scenes related to art lessons.
In doing so, there are aspects that cannot be adequately expressed in words. So, what should I do? I have no choice but to express it visually.
I apologize for my poor writing skills. I am still learning.
If it’s okay to pile up words, I want to write explanations in hundreds of words with profound sentences.
But if I do that, readers will turn away.
Then what should I do? I guess I have no choice but to ask an illustrator to express it!
Illustrations can bring out images that I cannot express in words.
“That’s why I gathered all the materials and submitted them. But what do you mean you can’t find an illustrator? I heard you’ve already been turned down over 30 times!”
I know that Kasui-san is working hard as an editor.
But why hasn’t anyone been chosen? Is this normal? I don’t know anything since this is my debut.
“Korisho-sensei! We’ve found an illustrator. His name is String-san, and he’s a newcomer, but he’s very good at drawing backgrounds.”
Seeing that email, I breathed a sigh of relief.
I remembered that my request was so detailed that no one wanted to accept it.
I’m at the point of wishing anyone would just draw for me.
However, once it’s decided, I want the illustrations to suit my story.
“I understand. I’m looking forward to it.”
Even as I replied to the email, anxiety filled my heart.
A few days later, I received an email saying that a rough drawing of the main character had arrived.
“Eh!”
“What do you think, Sensei? I think it’s quite close to Sensei’s requests, isn’t it?”
When I opened the file to see the illustration, tears naturally flowed.
“Ah, that’s it. I-it’s amazing.”
The protagonist I wanted to depict was a young lady with vertical rolled hair, wearing a dress tightly cinched at the waist with a corset. And it was depicted perfectly.
But that’s not all.
Inside the house, the colors of the rooms were perfectly expressed, with the main tones of brown and red interspersed with various colors.
“It’s perfect!”
“That’s great to hear! Now, I’m going to ask String-san to do the cover. I’m also thinking of doing a couple of color illustrations for the opening pages.”
With the illustrator chosen, the images for the illustrations were quickly being put together.
With this person, I can have my image of the illustrations reproduced!!
I submitted additional materials and requested color illustrations. I never expected to be this happy.
“Wow, that’s a lot of information. I think the images are easy to understand. Can we also decide on about 8 illustrations for the book? I’m sure you also have an idea of what scenes you would like to include. ”
I see, this is amazing.
The cover will feature the protagonist’s portrait, the opening will depict a scene of condemnation, and then, then…
My dreams are expanding.
I never imagined that my writing would be reproduced like this.
“Also, we have decided to make this title into a manga, so we will also introduce you to a manga artist who will match your image.”
Manga?!!! Will my novel become a manga?!!
I’m so happy.
But even though I was moved by getting all these illustrations, now thinking that the characters of the story will come to life in a manga, I feel even more emotional.
“Kasui-san, I was selfish in many ways, but thank you for making everything come true.”
“No, no, I also want to help Sensei create good work, so let’s do our best together. Also, the illustrator for this project is a man, but I’m glad he understands so well.”
Ehh!?
I had assumed that the person who drew the illustration was a woman.
Was this drawn by a man? I can’t believe it.
The details are carefully expressed, and the movements that only a delicate woman would understand are clearly depicted.
“I shouldn’t have made assumptions. He followed my preferences. Gender differences shouldn’t matter.”
I just write the story I think of.
“Yes, please take care of it.”
“Good. Well then, let’s proceed.”
I’ve caused Kasui-san a lot of trouble, but she’s such a hardworking and kind person. I’m nothing but grateful.
So, from now on, let’s work together in meetings to create a great work/
