Chapter 7: The Persistent Sleepover Request
After the heated video call ended, Shizuku collapsed, exhausted.
“It looks like Saya-san is burning.”
“Do you think so too, Shizuku?”
“Compared to my love, hers is quite something…”
Even though Shizuku had been strong-willed, it seemed like she was intimidated by Kujo.
“Saya-san is more interesting than I thought.”
“People don’t always match their looks.”
“That’s true. Well, it’s fine, since I’ve decided not to lose.”
“You’re strong.”
There was a spark of passion in Shizuku’s eyes.
“Right from the start, I hit you with massive emotions and surprised you. I’m sorry about that.”
“It’s fine. I’m used to being hit with emotions.”
“Oh, who was the one who got shaken up by the confession hold-off rule?”
“It went beyond what I can normally handle. I’m not omnipotent.”
The events of the past two days had unfolded at an unnatural speed. Until now, I had just been a calm counselor, but what was happening now?
“Well, we did talk. But in the end, it’s gotten harder to win you over.”
“Directly approaching wouldn’t have been much fun.”
“So you had some thoughts about it.”
“Regrets and reflections. In the end, it’s still about pushing forward. Even Yuria-sama would do the same.”
I could almost predict the next line.
“Wasn’t it ‘A declaration of war brings on disadvantage’?”
“You stole my line?!”
I had watched so many episodes of the anime that I knew the lines by heart.
I responded immediately, almost reflexively.
“Anyway, I, Nogami Shizuku, will win Seichiro Yasuda over. Even if it takes time, I’ll definitely do it.”
Saying “I’ll try to make you fall for me” would sound weird.
“Good luck” would be overly pompous.
“What should my response be?”
“Just give a thumbs up, men do that.”
“…”
I hesitated but finally gave a forced smile and raised my thumb.
“That’s fine. It feels like the start of a new chapter in the anime!”
“Shizuku, you always compare everything to anime.”
“Even if I do, it’s really ‘The Sorcerers of the Legends’ nine times out of ten.”
“Now that you mention it…”
For Shizuku, “The Sorcerers of the Legends” was life.
“I’ll support you, Seichiro Yasuda, just like Yuria-sama.”
“How intense can that passion be…”
“That’s for you to imagine.”
It was going to be overwhelming.
From now on, I’d be constantly aware of it. Until today, her massive emotions had been directed toward a fictional character, but now they’d be aimed at me. Could I handle such heavy, sharp, and direct feelings?
Shizuku had earned her title of “unbeatable” quite accurately. Her emotions toward Yuria-sama were one-sided but unyielding.
Kujo, on the other hand, radiated an aura of constant victory, stemming from her high status. It was a different thing altogether.
“Unbeatable is effort, constant victory is like genius. Neither should be underestimated.”
“By the way, what’s the plan for the rest of the day?”
It wasn’t yet evening. There was still plenty of time.
“Aren’t you just staying home all day?”
“What do you mean?”
“I’m saying, why don’t you just stay over tonight?”
“Your trickery is still in full effect.”
“Heh. Of course. You don’t have a reason to refuse, do you?”
“I guess not.”
The request to stay a bit longer was expected, but an overnight stay was beyond what I’d imagined. If she was serious, it wasn’t that surprising.
“Well, I’ll talk to my mom.”
“Let me know what she says.”
“I got it,” Shizuku replied, then quickly dashed downstairs with light steps.
Though she was my childhood friend from middle school, our parents had connections, so we were treated like family.
I’d stayed over at her house many times before, so there was nothing shocking about it.
However, this would be my first overnight stay there. I had a feeling I needed to be cautious about something.
I wasn’t sure where to start, but everything was surprisingly normal.
We snacked on some sweets and played games. Then we had pizza for lunch and resumed gaming.
It was just the usual carefree time we spent together.
At some point, we took a break to watch some anime. It was very much in line with Shizuku’s style.
When dinner came around, I was questioned by Shizuku’s mom.
“You two seem pretty close, don’t you?”
She asked bluntly, and it was tough to dodge the question.
Of course, it was understandable if there were some misunderstandings, so I had to take it in stride.
Before I knew it, it was night.
I waited for Shizuku to make her move, carefully observing the situation.
