Chapter 6: Potential Lovers Clash With Each Other
Shizuku’s confession was just as sly as mine. She offered me the same unfair choice: either cut ties or melt me with sweetness.
“I’ve always wanted to use this kind of ultimatum,” she said.
“You’re presenting a pretty tough choice,” I replied.
“It’s an exaggeration, but it’s close to my true feelings. Extreme choices are my way of returning the favor for your slyness.”
Even if she was joking, the option to cut ties was out of the question. It was impossible to accept the idea that everything we had would be erased just like that.
So, I thought…
“If I accept the confession, I’d be in a two-timing situation. And I’d get a fierce backlash from one of the girls.”
“I don’t mind. I’ve been influenced by Yuria-sama’s way of thinking.”
“…Wasn’t it something like, ‘I am an undefeated mage’?”
“As long as I don’t give up, I can’t lose.”
So, it seemed like a romantic race between Kujo and Shizuku was starting.
Right now, Shizuku was invincible. She held the reins. She didn’t know how to retreat.
“That’s why I want you to introduce me to the girl with the alias ‘Unexploded Bomb,'” she said.
“…By the way, a classmate?”
“Seriously?”
Yasuda, Kujo, and Shizuku were all in the same class, second-year high school students.
So, they should all know each other.
“A girl who would confess to Seikun? Hmm, who could it be?”
She listed about five classmate names, but none of them were right.
Half of them had already come to me for advice. Close, but not quite.
“The answer is… Kujo Saya,” I said.
“Kujo? That super serious and cute class president?”
“That’s a pretty wild label you’re putting on her.”
“She’s truly a high-spec girl with overall high value… if I were to call myself undefeated, Saya-sama would be the ultimate winner.”
Just hearing her name had me feeling defeated. It was like facing a huge wall.
From just her public image, Kujo was a flawless super girl. I could understand why Shizuku reacted that way.
“Saya-sama’s a landmine? I don’t get it.”
“You’ll understand once you see her other side.”
“I want to expose it next time we go to school… but it’s winter break! I can’t wait until the new year.”
“Bad timing.”
“If we can’t meet in person, we’ll do it online!”
“Video call, huh.”
“Good idea, Seikun.”
I felt a bit anxious.
Kujo had already said she wanted to be friends with me, even as a consultation partner.
Whether my hopes would become reality, I wasn’t sure.
Still…
“We can’t keep hiding it forever. It’s only a matter of time before it gets exposed.”
“Then let’s take the plunge. Yuria-sama would do it.”
“Let’s go for it.”
I had some worries in my mind, but I made up my mind and pressed the button.
Before the ringtone could even finish its first loop, Kujo answered.
“Ah, Seichiro-kun! You called just for me? ♡”
“Yeah. I wanted to hear your voice and see your face.”
Shizuku made a face like she was disapproving. When it came to consultations, I often showed a slightly cheesy side.
I could tell that watching me act this way was probably making her feel awkward.
“I just came back from going out, so my appearance is fine. I’ll turn on the camera.”
“Before you do, can I ask something?”
She asked if something was wrong. I hesitated, but decided to go straight to the point.
“Right now, there’s another person who’s a consultation partner sitting next to me.”
“I see. Seichiro-kun isn’t just mine, huh?”
“I don’t want you to be sad. To put it bluntly, this is a declaration of war.”
“…You’re doing something interesting. Show me that person quickly!”
I exchanged a glance with Shizuku and gave her the signal. Go.
Honestly, I was a bit intimidated by Kujo’s confidence, but I had no choice but to move forward.
“H-Hello. Saya-sama, no, Saya-san.”
“Ah, the same class as Seichiro-kun, Nagomi-san. What is this declaration of war about?”
“I’ve been with Seichiro-kun since middle school, and I’ve known him for a long time. Recently, my feelings have gone beyond friendship. So, I confessed to him.”
“Wh-what timing! I just went on a date with Seichiro-kun and confessed recently.”
“Huh? Huh?”
Shizuku glared at me with fierce intensity.
It was a huge mistake on my part. I hadn’t coordinated anything, so there was a lack of preparation, resulting in this information imbalance. I was failing as a consultation partner.
“Heh, Saya-san’s probably all excited about the date, but do you know how many times I’ve hung out with Seichiro-kun?”
“It’s not about the number. It’s about the depth. The speed at which we closed the distance is unmatched. Sorry, but I think I’ve won.”
“It sounds like you’ve got your reasons, but I want to be with Seichiro-kun. This is an unshakable feeling.”
“I feel the same way. I don’t want him to look at anyone else. I want him to accept me as I am.”
“Seems like you’re quite the Seichiro-kun fan.”
“I fell for him, is that bad? Am I a bad class president?”
“So Saya-san isn’t a perfect human after all… interesting.”
Shizuku let out a chuckle in her villainous voice.
The rivalry between the two of them was more intense than I expected.
“So, Kujo, I’ve ended up carrying this situation in just two days. This rough solution is what it’s come to. I’m really sorry.”
“It’s fine. I said I wanted to get along with your consultation partner. I’ll be sure to take good care of her, Nagomi-san.”
She was still confident.
Shizuku wasn’t backing down either. It was an all-out clash between the self-proclaimed undefeated and the undefeated winner.
“That’s enough for today! Seichiro-kun’s seat will be mine.”
“No, it’s mine.”
“I WILL TAKE IT!”
This was the first face-to-face meeting between the two outside of class.
