Living Together With The Goddess-Sama. (Part 5)
I stood in the kitchen and opened the white refrigerator door.
I checked to make sure I had all the ingredients I needed, even though I wasn’t going to be cooking much.
Then I took out the onion and ham then chopped each into chunks.
At the same time, I started making a simple Consomme soup.
Just then, Mikoto-san came out of the bath.
She came out while wiping her hair with a towel.
Mikoto’s beautiful silver hair looked shinier than usual because it was wet.
I think it was because she had been in the bath or quite a long time, but her cheeks were glowing and her skin had a reddish tint.
I was involuntarily thrown aback at the sight of Mikoto-san’s unusual appearance.
However, what spoiled her sexy appearance was my jersey.
When Mikoto-san put on my red jersey, it was still too tight and looked quite strange.
“Why are you looking at me?”
Mikoto-san said pointedly.
Perhaps she is wary.
Sleeping in the house of a man she doesn’t know well is in itself a dangerous act for Mikoto-san.
It was only natural for her to be cautious.
I shrug my shoulders.
“That jersey, is the size ok?”
“Do you have anything smaller?”
“Unfortunately, nope.”
“Then there’s no point in asking me.”
Mikoto-san said coldly.
Perhaps her body had warmed up and she was feeling better, since Mikoto-san’s mood began to resemble that of when she was in the classroom.
In other words, the frightened look she had earlier has disappeared and she has regained her normal self.
If that’s the case, I think that’s a good thing.
“But still, you sure took your time.”
“I guess that’s what a girl’s bath should be like.”
I wonder if that’s the way it is.
If it were my father or myself, we would finish the bath in an instant, but Amane-nee san always stayed in the bathroom for quite a long time.
“Now that you’re all warmed up, I’d like to ask you a question. Do you have any food allergies? Also, do you dislike egg dishes or tomatoes?”
Mikoto-san tilted her head.
She looked as if she had no idea what I was trying to say.
However, she answered the question honestly.
There was nothing in particular that she could not eat due to illness, and she said that she did not dislike eggs and tomatoes.
I nodded.
“Sure then, I’ll make an omelet rice for two.”
“Omelet rice? Why?”
“Because it seemed like something I could make with what I had on hand, and it’s also the first thing that popped into my head was omelet rice. If you want something else, let me know.”
This is because it is a universally accepted dish which is also served hot.
But Mikoto-san shook her head.
“I’m not asking why you chose the menu, I’m asking why you’re cooking for two.”
“Because you’re going to eat it as well.”
“I never said anything about eating.”
“You said you were hungry. I think you should eat. It’s no trouble for me to cook for one or two people anyway.”
“But.. I…”
“You can sit and wait, Mikoto-san.”
Without waiting for Mikoto-san’s next words, I opened the freezer and took out the leftover rice.
I put the two small portions of rice wrapped in plastic wrap in the microwave and began to heat them up.
Mikoto-san would have probably tried to spend the night without eating or drinking, and I would have felt very uncomfortable eating alone in front of a hungry Mikoto-san.
If that is the case, it is easier to cook for both of us.
I start frying the ingredients in a frying pan first.
I could have used ketchup alone, but I added butter and sake to give it a little more of a luxurious taste.
Throw in some warmed rice in the middle and season to taste, and the ham rice is ready to serve.
I put it on two plates.
Next was the omelet.
It is a little difficult to get the omelet to be half-boiled.
I carefully heated it over high heat and stirred it.
Fortunately, it came out beautifully, so I put it on a plate of ham rice and it was ready to serve.
I placed a plate of omelet rice in front of Mikoto-san’s table with soup as a side dish, and I joined her at the table.
Mikoto-san looked at me with a puzzled look on her face.
“Can I eat this?”
“Of course you can. That’s why I made them.”
Fearfully, Mikoto-san used the spoon to break up the omelet and brought it to her mouth along with the ham rice.
At that moment, Mikoto’s expression relaxed.
She probably thought it was delicious.
Well, it is a dish with a low risk of failure, but if it still suits her palate, it makes me a little happy.
As expected of a young lady of the Tomi mansion, even the way she ate the omelet rice was very elegant, but Mikoto-san ate it in that way in no time at all.
I smiled at her.
“I’m glad you’re satisfied.”
“I never said it was delicious.”
“Hmm? It wasn’t?”
“It was good, but…”
Mikoto-san spoke with a complicated expression on her face.
She was not the type of person who would flatter me, and judging from the mood she was in when she was eating, I think she was telling the truth when she said she thought the food was delicious.
However, even so, Mikoto-san’s expression did not clear up.
Then, after hesitating for a moment, Mikoto-san began to speak in a small voice.
“You are a little strange, aren’t you, Akihara-kun?”
“Am I?”
“If it were me, I wouldn’t be so kind.”
“Have I been nice to you? Mikoto-san?”
“I think you have. When I was cold, you lent me a blanket, made me a hot drink, and even prepared hot water for my bath. You even cooked dinner for me even though I didn’t ask for it. If that’s not kindness, what is?”
“I think it’s perfectly normal.”
“In all my time in my previous houses, it was never like this.”
“I see.”
From the way Mikoto said it, she has moved from one house to another, not only in the Tomi mansion, but also in several other houses.
Normally speaking, a young lady from a very wealthy Tomi family would not need to do so.
Who in the world is Mikoto-san?
“Thanks for the food. Thank you, Akihara-kun.”
Mikoto-san said this in a quiet voice as if fading away.
I had assumed that she was expressing her gratitude in a straightforward manner, but her next words weren’t what I expected.
“But this is the last time I will thank you for your kindness, Akihara-kun, and the last time I will thank you for the food.”
As if she had made up her mind to do something, Mikoto-san declared that she would never say “thank you” or “thanks for the food” to me again.
What did she mean by that?
When I asked, Mikoto-san replied,
“I don’t like it when people are nice to me.”
“Why?”
I probably had a lot of question marks on my face when I listened to her.
What is this goddess going to say?
“I don’t want to owe anyone anything, and I don’t want to cause trouble. I don’t like to get along with others.”
“It’s a negative image if you express it as familiarity, but you can say it in a different way, like helping each other or friendship.”
“It’s the same thing. If you are helped by others, you have to feel indebted to them, and if you have a special partner, you have to take care of that partner as well. It’s a hassle.”
“It might be a hassle, but it might be worth it.”
I said, but Mikoto-san denied my words.
“You may think so, Akihara-kun, but I don’t. So you don’t have to be bothered with me anymore, and you don’t have to cook for me anymore.”
“Ahー, sure.”
When I give her a subtle look, Mikoto-san looked away, blushed, and said in a small voice,
“I appreciate all the kindness you showed me today. The omelet rice was very delicious. But… No, that means you don’t have to be nice to me from tomorrow.”
There was a hint of a smile on the “Ice Goddess'” face.
Mikoto-san paused for a moment, then said.
“I will move out as soon as I find a new place to live, so don’t worry. I will try not to cause you any more trouble.”
Then Mikoto-san asked me where the bed was.
I told her that I had a futon that Amane-nee san used to use when she lived here and that it was in the closet, and she said she would lay it out herself.
Then she walked to the back room.
My room #301 is a 2DK, but there is only a thin sliding door between the front bedroom and the back bedroom, and it cannot be locked from either side.
Mikoto-san looked back at me.
“I’m sure you understand without me having to tell you, Akihara-kun, but…”
“You can rest assured that I will not come in there. If I try anything, you can just kill me.”
I raised my hands in a banzai.
I jokingly struck a pose of surrender and non-resistance, but Mikoto-san didn’t laugh, just said a whisper “thank you.”
I stared at Mikoto-san seriously, a little surprised. She had just declared that she would never say “thank you” again, but she had broken it herself just now.
I guessed that Mikoto-san had noticed the meaning of my gaze, and her face turned red.
“T-this one doesn’t count!”
Then Mikoto-san retreated to the back room.
I looked up at the ceiling and sneezed.
I guess I’ll take a bath too.
