Chapter 66 Let’s get a healer’s license – 1
After getting formal agreement from Captain Ronny to move into the instruction phase, I proceeded to the lecture room within the barracks to begin the curriculum I had devised earlier in the morning.
After Amido, the personnel director, left the reception room, I started to ponder how the “Zelgius Rangers” could maximize their effectiveness using their threefold magical power. Drawing from the information Amido provided about their activities, I particularly focused on their roles in “humanitarian aid” and “disaster rescue.”
Likely, their tasks often involve transporting injured people to safe locations or providing first aid before handing them over to healers. If so, teaching them magic to streamline these processes or increase their operational flexibility could greatly enhance their efficiency in utilizing their magical power.
With this hypothesis in mind, I went to “observe” their training sessions, also as a form of preparation for joint training. There, I confirmed my hypothesis was correct.
The training I observed involved escorting a healer through a dangerous area with many injuries, providing security along the way. The training scenario assumed that the healer had the physical capabilities of an ordinary person, given that they don’t usually engage in physical training. Thus, the rangers were slowly navigating a rugged path while assisting the healer.
Additionally, they trained for scenarios where the healer might be attacked by enemies, integrating defensive maneuvers into their practice.
To be honest—as an amateur observer—it all looked quite cumbersome.
That’s when I had an idea: wouldn’t it be more efficient if the “Zelgius Rangers” themselves could use healing magic?
Therefore, the special lecture I now intend to give includes two main points. First, learning various healing spells, including “Perfect Heal,” aimed at treating injuries. Second, an intensive course designed to help them pass the national healer license exam in a short period.
Regarding the first point, considering that the “Zelgius Rangers” primarily operate in disaster and conflict zones, I figured that healing injuries would be more common than curing diseases. Therefore, I selected spells with that focus. Incidentally, most of these spells’ formulas are fragments of the “Perfect Heal” magic circle. So, my plan is to teach “Perfect Heal” and let them learn the rest on their own.
For the second point, the issue is that, by law, they can’t officially treat severely injured individuals without a license. Eliminating this restriction would significantly enhance their operational capabilities.
While this might not seem like direct “tactical and combat” instruction, streamlining the safety and care of injured civilians will inherently broaden their tactical options. If there’s a demand for more combat-focused techniques, I can add that content later.
“Thank you for your hard work, everyone! Let’s begin the special lecture.”
“Thank you!”
Standing at the podium, I greeted them, and they responded in unison. Despite their informal tone during our post-training chat, they now addressed me respectfully. Personally, I didn’t mind either way.
“I had considerable freedom in deciding the lecture content, so I was a bit unsure about what to teach. To help me decide, I observed your morning training from above. It seems you often have missions involving escorting healers safely to dangerous areas.”
I started by explaining the reasoning behind my planned content, mentioning my covert observation.
“What…? Really?”
This revelation caused a slight stir among the rangers, with them looking at each other in surprise.
“Um… Excuse me, may I ask something right away?”
“Sure, go ahead.”
“How exactly did you observe us? We had no idea you were watching us closely enough to understand the training details so well…”
Ah, I see. They’re probably surprised because they were on alert but didn’t notice me at all.
“Oh, no, I wasn’t close by at all. I was observing from a pretty high altitude. I only listened to your conversations using sound amplification magic. I wasn’t hiding nearby within earshot.”
“I see… Sorry, I still don’t quite understand, but I get that it wasn’t something a normal human could do.”
“Right…”
I’m not sure if they really understood that, but in any case, the method of observation is irrelevant to the content of this lecture, so let’s move on.

“While watching that training, I couldn’t help but wonder… Have any of you ever thought, ‘If only we could use healing magic ourselves, we wouldn’t have to go through the trouble of bringing someone with general-level physical abilities to dangerous sites’?”
The content of this lecture hinges on the hypothesis that “missions would be easier if the team members had healing abilities,” so I asked this question to see if they would agree. However…
“……?”
Contrary to my expectations, everyone just looked puzzled.
Oh no, did I miss the mark right from the start? But then, Captain Ronny spoke up, voicing what everyone was probably thinking.
“Certainly, having that ability would make missions significantly easier, but I don’t think anyone has ever thought about it that way during training or in actual missions. The division of roles is so ingrained that the idea of us using healing magic hasn’t even crossed our minds.”
Ah, I see. That makes sense… In that case, even if they don’t resonate with the idea, it means my hypothesis is correct. I should continue with the planned lecture.
“Understood. For this lecture, I intend to teach you all healing magic.”
As I continued, I projected a magic circle using a hologram.
“However, if it were just about learning healing magic, there wouldn’t be a need for me to be your instructor, and some of you might think there’s no time to start aiming to become healers from scratch. Therefore, this time, we’re going to focus on one specific healing spell through a short, intensive course. The spell I’m projecting now is ‘Perfect Heal.'”
“‘P-Perfect Heal…?'”
Upon hearing the spell’s name, a few team members repeated it in astonished tones. One of them raised their hand hesitantly.
“Um… I’ve heard that Perfect Heal is something that even the most talented healers take years to master. Is it really possible to learn it through a short, intensive course?”
It seems that this team member lacks confidence in their ability to learn Perfect Heal. I anticipated this kind of reaction. Regardless of how difficult it actually is, for those who have never dealt with healing magic, it’s understandable to think of it as a highly specialized and challenging spell.
I responded with a reassuring smile, ready to ease their worries.
“It’s possible. The main reasons why it takes the average healer a long time to master it are likely because they don’t have a role model nearby and they can’t learn it through physical experience. When you have to learn almost entirely on your own by reading textbooks without seeing the magic performed in person, it naturally takes time to grasp the nuances. Also, if you don’t frequently experience being on the receiving end of Perfect Heal, it will take longer to understand how to perform it. However, you all will get to experience Perfect Heal hundreds of times, and I can also assist with mana control as needed. With this approach, it shouldn’t take long for you to master it.”
I once read about this in a document my mother gave me. The title was something like “The Correlation Between the Number of Healing Magic Applications and the Time Required to Master It.” The data showed that the more times one experienced the magic, the shorter the time needed to master it.
Judging by my previous internship at the church, Perfect Heal seemed to be quite valuable, even for patients, and there wasn’t a culture of healers casting it on each other to improve their skills. Therefore, the “several years to master” figure likely applies to those with few opportunities to experience it.
Even though they might not have a deep knowledge of healing magic, the members of the Zelgius Rangers are an elite group with excellent intellect. With a substantial number of experiences, mastering the spell in a short time isn’t out of reach.
“Well then, since you all must be tired from the training earlier, I’ll cast it on you once to start!”
I said this and cast a healing spell on everyone. Strictly speaking, it was an Area Perfect Heal rather than a regular Perfect Heal.
“Whoa, my body feels so light!” “I can’t believe this is right after a physical training exercise!”
Experiencing Perfect Heal for the first time, the team members were visibly excited.
“From now on, I’ll be casting Perfect Heal on you repeatedly in a casual manner. Over time, you’ll gradually start to understand what kind of magic it is and how to cast it yourselves.”
I emphasized once again the feasibility of mastering the spell.
“Understood!” “It still seems difficult, but with Hadar-dono here believing we can do it, we’ll give it our all to meet those expectations!”
Thus, I succeeded in getting the team members to be positive about mastering Perfect Heal.
“Well then, let’s get started!”
With that, the intensive training began immediately.
◇
One week later.
“…I did it!”
At last, the final member successfully cast Perfect Heal on his own.
“Whoooaaa!” “Well done, well done!” “Now we’ve all met Hadar-sensei’s expectations!”
Seeing this, the other team members cheered as if it were their own achievement, and the lecture room filled with applause.
“Congratulations. You finally did it!” “Th-thank you! While everyone else was succeeding, I felt so bad for being the only one struggling and causing trouble… I’m so relieved I finally got it right!”
As I offered words of encouragement, that team member, with tears in his eyes, expressed his gratitude. With this, the first phase of the lecture was complete.
“In actual situations, depending on the condition of the injured, Perfect Heal might not always be necessary. For minor injuries, you might choose to conserve mana by using simpler healing spells. Although I didn’t teach those spells, many of them are essentially partial versions of Perfect Heal, so you should be able to learn them on your own quickly.”
With those words, I concluded the Perfect Heal intensive course.
“Thank you very much!”
The team members saluted in unison, harmonizing their thanks.
Now that we’ve reached this point, we need to ensure that they can legally use Perfect Heal in the field. Over the past week, while supervising the team’s training, I also prepared reference books, workbooks, and mock exams for the national healer’s license exam. Starting tomorrow, we will begin the second phase of the lecture using these materials.
