Chapter 12: Pleasant season of Rains, and the Hot Summer
Since the announcement of the rainy season in news, it has been raining gently outside today. The usually noisy morning classroom seems oddly serene, not even requiring earphones.
If only every morning could be like this…
But reality is unrealistically cruel. My fleeting wish will likely be shattered by the arrival of “summer,” which heralds the end of the rainy season.
Summer, in short, the season of woes. It’s the time when the entire school becomes boisterous, as if venting the frustration accumulated during the rainy season. While the anticipation of summer vacation might make hearts flutter, the noise levels become unbearable. To the degree that even Cicadas stuck to window screens feels more endearing in comparison.
It’s not just at school; summer brings other calamities as well. Apparently, summer tends to make people aggressive, thus it’s also a season leading people to commit more crimes as well.
For example, sexual crimes tend to rise in summer, as people tend to expose more skin.
Similarly, home invasions increase, as people tend to leave windows open more often, thus people tend to get in.
Juvenile delinquency also tends to increase. The sense of liberation during the long vacation leads to laxity, which in turn leads to delinquent behavior… To say that summer vacation or by extension, Victims of the summer season, is by no means an over-exaggeration.
While I don’t have data to back these claims, they’re not entirely baseless. Perhaps we could also call it as “the magic of summer”… In any case, it’s not something pleasant at all.
Also, simply, as it’s just plain hot, I hate it.
On the other hand, the rainy season is nice. Even though from the societal point of view, it’s something not looked with a great thought, but for me, even this gloominess typically associated with it just Great… Wait, don’t tell me, am I starting to get an unhealthy obsession with it or something?
“Ah, g-good morning, Ryogoku-kun!”
Am I suffering from a mental illness? As I was getting worried for myself, as a voice neither melancholic nor shitty entered my ears.
The voice belonged to Hiiragi. She just not completely faced towards Ryogoku who had just entered the classroom.
“Morning, Hiiragi. You seem energetic today as well.”
“I am! Though being energetic is all I’ve got Aha… Ahaha…”
“That’s not true at all. You have plenty more other good qualities as well.”
“……..”
I couldn’t catch Hiiragi’s response, but judging by her squirming, it’s definitely that she is feeling embarrassed after that.
and so, Ryogoku end his casual conversation with Hiiragi with a smile, and heads back to his seat with a smile.
As for Hiiragi, she appeared to be surrounded by her group, with everyone cheering her in their hearts.
Though she appears to deny it. But almost everyone in the class has already guessed it, haven’t they? No, pretty sure everyone’s already aware of it, absolutely.
It’s been just over a week since the day out with Katase and the others. I’ve been observing out of curiosity or maybe just to kill time… Well, to say about the most obvious thing in that, the most obvious thing was actually. “Ryogoku-kun! I love you! I love you so much!” was evident in every way possible.
Even so, Hiiragi Yuzuki’s refusal to admit it because of her stubbornness, already qualifies her as a first-rate Tsundere. And consequently, Katase, who is not aware of it despite being so close to her, makes her thick-headed dull skull also a first-rate as well.
Well, In case of Katase, she is from a different class, so I guess it’s still understandable.
In conclusion, It seems Hiiragi is hopelessly in one-sided love with Ryogoku-kun.
And that is why, if I can, I want to shout out aloud that — if you have enough time to try to get me and Katase stuck together, concentrate on your own goddamn love life, Hiiragi. Or so.

“Hey, Kazari-kun, can I talk to you for a sec?”
Lunch break.
As I was pondering where to have my solo lunch, a guy approaches me — It is Ryogoku.
Hey, hey, don’t startle me like that. I thought you had something to say to me since you turned to me and spoke. I mean, he called someone called “Kazari-kun,” right? So, since he wants to talk to “Kazari-kun,” and thinking fine, since I am not Kazari-kun in the first place; welp, Imma outta here. See ya (Sayonara)!
As I breathed a sigh of relief, realizing that somehow stopped myself from embarrassment just in the right moment, by not reacting to it.
…………Wait, doesn’t “Kazari” refers to me?
After having walked a little ahead, I stopped on my tracks.
I had mentally assumed that someone like Ryogoku wouldn’t talk to me in the first place. But them I realized, that in this school, I’m the only “Kazari-kun” there. Which means, in essence, Ryogoku-kun has something to say to me.
As I slowly turn around, my eyes meet Ryogoku’s smiling face.
Just to be absolutely sure, I point to myself. And Ryogoku nods in confirmation.
“Ah, Um, well what do you need?”
“Un, mind if we talk for a bit?”
Hey please, that’s not just a slight change in wording! Can you please tell me ahead on what you want to talk with me about?!
If this were a one-on-one situation, I’d have already declined without hesitation. However, with everyone’s eyes on us, I just can’t.
“What is he, Gross..”
“Don’t get ahead of himself.”
Or such murmurs could get attracted, getting me have disapproving looks pointed towards me.
It’s not that I am giving up my authoritative position to him… But to maintain a peaceful school life, I have no choice but to comply.
“Y-yeah.”
As I respond, Ryogoku merely says, “Thanks,” before heading out of the classroom.
He must want me to follow.
To avoid those stares directed at me, I briskly follow Ryogoku.
As we leave the classroom, I catch a glimpse of Hiiragi in my peripheral sight hastily getting up… But I didn’t slow down because of that.
