Chapter 27: Bumping into Skuld in the Middle of Town

“Oh yeah! Since we’re here, I’d love to hear some stories from your warrior training days back before you became guild master, if that’s cool!”

“My warrior training days, huh? Hehe, I’m kinda happy you’d wanna hear about such old stuff. Usually only Alicia asks about my past, so it’s nice that you wanna hear it too, Setsuna. But my next meeting’s about to start soon, so how about we save that for another time?”

“Huh? Oh shoot, you’re right. Time flew by that much already. Sorry for keeping you talking this long!”

“Nah, don’t worry about it. I had fun chatting with you too, y’know. Thanks for today, really. Let’s talk again sometime, okay? See ya.”

“Yeah, thanks for everything, Rufus!”

After saying goodbye like that, Rufus headed off to her next work thing. I waved at her while watching her go.

“Alright, guess I should head back too… wait, huh?”

So I started leaving the forest park to go back to the Elfemina house. Right then, I spotted someone I knew. It was the senior adventurer Skuld.

I hurried over and called out to him.

“Heyyy, Skuld-saaan!”

“Hm? Oh, yo. It’s you, Setsuna. Yo, what’s good?”

“Yeah, yo. Crazy running into you all the way out here on the edge of the capital. Were you out of the city this whole time or something?”

“Yep. Took on a request after a long while, so I went outside and knocked out some monster hunts. Just finished the subjugation job, so now I’m heading back to the adventurer guild. You free right now, Setsuna? Wanna grab some food after this? I’ll treat ya if you want.”

“Wait, for real? That’d be awesome! If you’re treating, I’m definitely down!”

“Haha, sweet. Alright then, let’s head to the guild together first. Once I pick up today’s reward, I’ll buy you dinner.”

“Yeah, got it!”

So after that, I ended up walking with Skuld toward the royal capital’s adventurer guild.

“By the way, what were you doing way out here on the edge of the capital anyway, Setsuna? Were you out of the city too?”

“Nah, I was just in the forest park nearby till a bit ago. Rufus was training me there.”

“…Huh? Rufus? You mean… Rufus Scarlet, the guild master of the capital?”

“Yeah, that’s her. That Rufus.”

“Whoa, hold up, seriously? Getting trained by that Rufus… pfft haha, you’re seriously something else, man!”

“Huh? Uh?”

When I told him I’d just been getting trained by Rufus, for some reason Skuld burst out laughing big time. Did I say something weird?

“What’s up, Skuld? Why’re you laughing like that? Did I say something funny?”

“Ahaha. Nah, it’s not ’cause it’s weird. I just thought it’s straight-up insane that you got Rufus to train you, that’s all.”

“? Getting trained by Rufus is that big a deal? How come?”

“Oh yeah, Rufus has been an adventurer since she was a kid and she’s racked up a terrifying amount of achievements. That’s why she’s in charge of the biggest guild in the world—the royal capital’s. In my book, her adventurer strength puts her in the top five worldwide, no question. She’s one of the absolute strongest out there.”

“Wait, what!? Top five adventurers in the whole world!? Rufus is that level of strong!?”

“Yep. Well, obviously the top strongest male adventurer is me, no contest, but for the strongest female? It’s gotta be Rufus. Getting trained by both the top guy and top girl? You’re seriously nuts, Setsuna. That’s why I couldn’t help laughing.”

“Ohhh, so that’s why you were cracking up.”

I’d kinda gotten that Rufus was strong, but I had no idea she was on that insane level. Totally shocked me.

“But unlike me, who’s just freewheeling and doing whatever I feel like, Rufus is the guild master here in the capital—she’s gotta be stupid busy, right? Yet she still made time to train you? What kinda magic did you pull to get her to say yes??”

“Nah, no crazy magic or anything. I just did her a little favor once, and she said she’d train me as thanks.”

“Hmm, gotcha. So today’s training was a one-time thing then?”

“Nope. I figured it was just for today too, but Rufus said she’d keep helping with my training and practice whenever she can. So if our schedules line up, I’m planning to get more sessions with her.”

“Whoa, that’s rare. For someone as strict and by-the-book as Rufus to say that… Haha, yeah, you’re definitely something special. So how was her training? Super hardcore Spartan style, right?”

Skuld asked about the training while grinning, like he was sure it was brutal.

“Nah, not at all. Rufus was really gentle and nice the whole time. She even said she’d train me as much as I want from now on. She’s seriously such a kind person.”

“Hmm, I see, I see. That’s good then. Yeah, getting training from Rufus is a super rare opportunity for sure. She’s an amazing adventurer. So take full advantage and learn a ton of adventurer skills from her while you can. Oh, and not just her—wanna train with me sometimes too? How about we hit a dungeon together again soon?”

“Wait, really? I’d love to go dungeoning with you, Skuld! Alright, I’ll come ask you properly next time!”

“Got it. Then let’s go train in a dungeon again soon. I’ll whip you into shape too, so get ready.”

“Yeah, cool!”

So yeah, I made plans with Skuld to train together again. Can’t wait for the day we hit a dungeon with him.

Man, though… all these adventurers around me keep making time to train and help me out… haha, everyone’s just so nice. Makes me really happy.
