A Story of a Noble Lady Who Was Ravaged by an Incurable Disease and Covered in Bandages All Over Her Broken Body; After Healing Her, She Turned Into a Stunning Beauty and Started Desperately Courting Me - Chapter 26.2
Chapter 26.2: Hearing Rufus’s Old Stories
Rufus said something kinda mysterious like that. An amazing weapon I have? I don’t remember having anything like that…
“Hah… hah… Amazing weapon…? Oh, wait—you mean my ‘healing magic’? But that’s not something I trained super hard for since I was a kid like you did. It’s more like I just stumbled into it by chance, or maybe it’s some god’s whim and it could vanish any day. So it’s not really that amazing of a weapon—”
“No, it’s not about the healing magic. Sure, that’s great too, but you’ve got something even more amazing than that. You’re still young though, so maybe you haven’t realized it’s an amazing weapon yet.”
“I haven’t realized it… an amazing weapon?”
“Yeah, exactly. You might not notice it right now… but I really hope one day you’ll figure out what that amazing weapon is on your own. Hehe.”
Rufus said that while smiling and looking right at me. What the heck is this weapon she’s talking about…?
“Anyway. We don’t have much time today, so let’s wrap up training here. From now on, whenever I’ve got free time, I’ll train with you or help with your practice, so feel free to hit me up anytime. Though it seems like you’ve already got a bunch of great teachers, so I dunno if there’s much I can actually teach you… Oh, wait. How about this—if you’re okay with it, I can teach you sword techniques anytime. So if you ever wanna learn more about sword stuff, just tell me, okay?”
“Wait… really!? That’d be awesome! Then yeah, please let me train with you again whenever you’ve got an opening!”
“Sure, got it. We’ve still got about ten minutes before my next meeting starts, so wanna just chat until your breathing calms down?”
“Yeah, sounds good. I’ve actually been wanting to talk with you too, Rufus, so please!”
“Hehe, really? That makes me happy. Alright then, mind if I sit next to you?”
—Plop.
Rufus sat down on the ground right there.
“Whew. So since we’ve got the chance, if there’s anything you’ve been curious about, Setsuna, just ask whatever. I’m an open book.”
“Got it. Okay, so something I’ve been wondering for a while… You’re the guild master of the adventurer guild, which means you used to be an adventurer yourself, right? How come you became one? I feel like it’s kinda rare for a noble to do that—did something big happen or what?”
I went ahead and asked Rufus the thing that’d been on my mind. Being guild master means you racked up some seriously impressive achievements as an adventurer.
So Rufus must’ve done some amazing stuff back then. But a noble becoming an adventurer just felt kinda unusual to me, so I straight-up asked out of pure curiosity.
“Yeah, you’re right. Like you said, I did become an adventurer. I started when I was ten, so by now I’ve been at it for seventeen years without even realizing. And to answer your question—why did I became one? It’s because of my dad.”
“Whoa!? You’ve been adventuring that long!? That’s insane! But what do you mean because of your dad?”
“Yeah. My dad’s the famous captain of a knight order, but when he was younger, he became an adventurer for martial training and traveled all over the world, taking down high-level monsters one after another.”
“Wow, so your dad was an adventurer too back in the day. Going on a monster-hunting journey for martial training—your dad’s seriously hardcore.”
Looks like Rufus’s dad went on a warrior training journey as an adventurer. Figures, coming from such an old-school martial noble family.
“Yeah. So I’ve been training with the sword since I was little because of him, but at some point I realized I was way stronger than all the other trainees around me. That’s when I started wanting to do the same kind of warrior training my dad did, so I got my adventurer license and became one. And then I started my own warrior journey, just like my dad did when he was young.”
“So you chose the adventurer path to get even stronger. Man, both you and your dad are pretty intense, huh.”
“Hehe, people say that a lot. Anyway, after I became an adventurer, I kept taking down monster after monster, and by my late teens I could even beat top-tier ones. All that warrior training boosted my adventurer rep like crazy, and eventually my dad asked if I’d take over as master of the royal capital’s adventurer guild. I happily accepted, and that’s how I got here.”
“Gotcha. So that’s the story behind it. Oh, and this is kinda late, but your dad has the authority to pick the guild master?”
“Yeah, the Scarlet family is a prestigious martial house. All the combat-related positions—knight orders, guards, royal palace knights, adventurer guilds—are under our family’s jurisdiction. So right now I’m proudly serving as guild master of the royal capital’s adventurer guild every day. Compared to when I was just doing warrior training, I’ve got this position now, so there’s way more external meetings, discussions, and conferences. My free time’s pretty much gone, but still, every day feels super rewarding.”
Rufus told me all that with a smile on her face.
She’s probably swamped with all kinds of work and duties every day, and it must be tough, but you could really tell how much she loves being an adventurer.
