A Story of a Noble Lady Who Was Ravaged by an Incurable Disease and Covered in Bandages All Over Her Broken Body; After Healing Her, She Turned Into a Stunning Beauty and Started Desperately Courting Me - Chapter 2
Chapter 2: Accepting the Request to Treat the Noble Lady
One afternoon.
“Hey, Setsuna! Good work!”
“Hm? Oh, it’s you, Scholz. Good work!”
I was walking outside when Scholz called out to me. Scholz is a guy the same age as me, sixteen. He works as a cooking apprentice at our usual diner.
Since we’re the same age, whenever we have free time we eat together or hang out. He’s super friendly and a really good guy, so he’s one of my important friends I hang out with a lot.
“How’s the adventurer work been going for you lately, Setsuna? Pretty busy?”
“Nah, not really that busy. Just steady, I guess. Speaking of which, Scholz… wait, what happened to your face? That injury looks bad.”
“Oh, this? Yeah, actually yesterday my pet cat scratched my face. I was trimming its claws and it hated it, so it got me good—zaku!—right across the face.”
Scholz pointed at his own face while explaining. Sure enough, it really did look like claw marks. The cuts looked pretty painful.
“So that’s what happened. Well, your family’s cat has always hated having its claws trimmed, huh. Alright then, since it looks painful, I’ll heal it for you right now.”
“Seriously? That would be a huge help! Can you do it right now?”
“Sure thing. Here we go—Recovery Magic, Heal.”
——Powaah…!
“Whoa, the pain on my face is completely gone! And the scratch marks disappeared perfectly too! Thanks, Setsuna!”
“No problem. Still, try to be more careful from now on so you don’t get scratched by the cat again.”
“Of course. I’ve gotta be extra careful from now on not to make the cat mad. Oh, right! I’ve gotta pay you for the treatment. How much is your healing fee again, Setsuna?”
“Nah, I don’t need any money. I’m not gonna charge you for something as small as a few scratches. But if you keep feeding me lots of your delicious food at the diner from now on, that’s more than enough.”
“For real? Saying something that cool… man, you’re such a great guy, Setsuna! Haha, got it. Next time you come to the diner, I’ll give you an extra-large portion on the house! So keep coming to the place where I work, okay!”
“Oh, that’s awesome! Deal. I’ll swing by the diner for food again soon then.”
“Anytime! I’ll be waiting!”
Scholz gave me a big grin as he said that. Free extra food is the best thing ever for a growing guy like me. I decided I’d definitely stop by the diner again soon to eat.
“Still, no matter how many times I see it, your recovery magic is seriously amazing, Setsuna. That instant effect and perfect healing… it’s honestly incredible. By the way, how did you even learn to use such amazing recovery magic?”
“Huh? Uh, well… how should I put it? I guess I just kinda naturally picked it up after helping a lot of people? Like, I kept trying hard and then the gods just gave it to me or something… yeah, something like that.”
“Hmm? I don’t really get it, but… I’ve heard people say since long ago that talent for recovery magic is proportional to how kind your heart is. So maybe that’s why you, who’s helped so many people, can use such incredible recovery magic. Well, since you’re an extremely kind guy, it makes sense, doesn’t it?”
“No way, I’m totally normal. If anything, everyone else in town is way kinder than me. You even fed me tons of free food back when I had just arrived in this town, remember? That really saved me. Thanks so much, Scholz.”
“Haha, yeah yeah. Being thanked like that actually feels pretty good. Well, from now on too—if you’re ever in trouble, we’ll always help you out. So whenever something happens, just tell us, okay? We’re all on your side, Setsuna.”
“Haha. Thanks, Scholz. Hearing that really makes me happy. Alright then, I should head to the adventurer guild now. See you later!”
“Yep, see ya!”
With that, I parted ways with my friend Scholz.
Now then. Time to hurry over to the adventurer guild and earn some living expenses for today.

A short while later.

“Hello~”
I opened the door of the adventurer guild and stepped inside. Right away, guild master Douglas called out to me.
“Hm? Oh, it’s Setsuna! Perfect timing! Come over here for a sec!”
“What’s up, guild master? Did a request come in that’s perfect for me or something?”
“Yeah! A request came in that’s very likely perfect for you! It’s from a duke’s family living in the royal capital.”
“…Huh? A duke from the royal capital? That’s from some really important person. Is it really okay for someone like me—a total nobody—to accept it?”
“Don’t worry about that. The duke is an old acquaintance of mine. If I write you a letter of introduction, there won’t be any problem at all, so relax. Besides, this request is probably something only you can take, Setsuna. The duke wants you to examine his daughter’s illness. And if you can heal it, he wants you to treat her.”
“Hmm. So his daughter means… a duke’s daughter, right? Wouldn’t a family as important as a duke’s have their own personal healers? Is this an illness even those people couldn’t cure?”
I asked Douglas that question. An illness that top-class healers in the royal capital couldn’t fix… doesn’t that sound like a pretty serious disease or maybe even an incurable one?
“Yeah, apparently all the healers who’ve examined her so far couldn’t cure it. They don’t even know the cause, so treatment has been very difficult… and now the duke’s daughter’s condition has gotten much worse. It seems she can’t even get out of bed anymore…”
“She can’t even leave her bed… that sounds like a really painful illness…”
“Yeah, that’s what I heard… But since you can use recovery magic far better than anyone else, there’s a chance you might be able to heal her, right? So if it’s not too much trouble… could you at least come examine her once? Please… I’m begging you to help my old friend’s daughter.”
“Of course. If I can heal her, I’ll gladly go. So I’ll head home now and start preparing to travel to the royal capital. Is it okay if you prepare the letter of introduction, guild master?”
“Oh, really?! Thank you for accepting the request! I’ll write the letter of introduction today, so once you pick it up, head straight to the royal capital!”
“Got it.”
And so, I accepted the request from the guild master to go heal the duke’s daughter’s illness. If it really is some kind of incurable or extremely difficult disease, it must be awful for her. I should go heal her as quickly as possible.
