Chapter 1: I Ended Up in Another World

It was one peaceful afternoon.

“Hey, old maaan! I came to take your healing request!”

“O-ohhh! The pain in my back disappeared all at once! I can move, I can move! Thank you, Setsuna! Now I can get right back to banging away at carpentry work today!”

I received the payment for the healing request from the town carpenter uncle, then left his house. That should cover today’s food money.

“Alright. The healing request is safely done, so time to go grab some lunch.”

Saying that, I headed toward my usual diner in the center of town. I felt a little tired after finishing one job, so today I’m going all out for lunch to recharge my stamina!

Let me introduce myself properly again. My name is Kisaragi Setsuna. I’m a 16-year-old guy.

I originally come from a place called Tokyo in Japan, but right now I’m living in another world called “Luminasfasia.” This world is the classic fantasy kind, with magic, monsters, and all that stuff.

The reason I left Japan and ended up living in this other world “Luminasfasia” is actually a bit of a serious story.

About a year ago, on my way to my middle school graduation ceremony, I witnessed a child about to get hit by a truck on a crosswalk.

Without thinking, I sprinted full speed toward the crosswalk to save the kid. I shoved the child hard out of the way to get them to safety. In exchange, I was the one who got hit by the truck.

After that I lost consciousness immediately…… and some time later when I opened my eyes, I found myself standing in a completely white space.

Then a person who called himself a god appeared and said,
‘I accidentally let you die. I feel really sorry about it, so I’m going to give you cheat-level abilities and let you live once more in another world.’

And that’s how, by the god’s hand, instead of going to the afterlife, I was sent to a small rural town in the other world “Luminasfasia.”

By the way, the cheat ability the god gave me was the full package of ‘recovery magic.’ Injury recovery, illness recovery, status ailment recovery, curse recovery—pretty much anything as long as the person isn’t already dead.

‘A kind-hearted boy who bravely saved a child about to be hit by a truck deserves exactly this kind of ability, right?’

That’s what the god said while giving me this gentle cheat ability. Though honestly, throwing a 15-year-old kid into a completely unknown other world isn’t kind at all.

So right after receiving the cheat ability from the god, I was sent straight to a small, unfamiliar rural town in another world.

Of course, when I first arrived I was extremely confused and had no idea what was going on. I felt really anxious thinking about how I was supposed to live from now on. But the people in that rural town were all incredibly kind.

Even though I had suddenly appeared from another world and was clearly uneasy, the townspeople never looked at me suspiciously or treated me coldly. Instead they reached out and helped me when I was feeling lost. In the beginning especially, everyone gave me tons of food, clothes, and other things. They really were all so kind.

Later, while I was worrying about how to earn money, someone from town suggested, “Why don’t you become an adventurer?” So I decided to give it a try right away.

The same person who gave me that advice also taught me the basics of being an adventurer—like how to gather medicinal herbs, how to defeat weak monsters like slimes, and lots of other knowledge unique to this world.

Thanks to all that, I managed to pick up a lot of skills and knowledge. Now I’m able to live properly as an adventurer all by myself. I’m truly filled with gratitude toward so many people.

That’s why, even now after quite a long time has passed since I came to this world, I still remember clearly that the reason I’m alive today is because of all the kind people here. So as an adventurer, I actively take requests from people who are in trouble, and I spend every day enjoying myself.

Some time later. After I finished eating a huge set meal at my usual diner,

I headed to the adventurer guild to check whether any new healing requests had come in.

“Hello—”

“Hm? Oh, it’s you, Setsuna. Good work.”

“Ah, Guild Master. Yep, good work to you too.”

When I opened the door of the adventurer guild and stepped inside, Guild Master Douglas called out to me.

Guild Master Douglas was the very first person I met after being sent to this world. Back then he had been injured fighting monsters, so I hurriedly used recovery magic on him.

After that, he thanked me sincerely. What’s more, even when I said the suspicious-sounding words “I came from another world,” he believed me straight away without doubting me. He gave me tons of advice and wisdom about how to survive in this world.

He was also the one who told me that becoming an adventurer would be the best way to earn living expenses. He kindly and patiently taught me how to gather medicinal herbs and fight monsters when I was just starting out.

Overall, Douglas is the dependable big-brother type who really looks out for others. During this past year he has helped me countless times, and I truly respect him. I can’t thank him enough.

“Did you already finish the healing request you took this morning?”

“Yep. I completed it perfectly. I came to see if there were any new healing requests I could take.”

“Nope. Right now there aren’t any other healing requests. The moment another one suitable for you comes in, I’ll contact you right away.”

“I see. Got it. If anyone gets injured or in trouble, please contact me anytime. Whenever I’m not out on an adventure and have free time, I’ll go heal them.”

“Haha, that’s reassuring to hear. By the way, it’s been about exactly one year since you came to this world, hasn’t it? When we first met you were just a really anxious little kid, but now your face looks completely different. You’ve become a proper, full-fledged adventurer.”

“Really? I personally feel like I haven’t changed at all compared to a year ago…… but if I really have grown properly during this year, then it’s definitely thanks to you, Guild Master, and everyone in town. Because all of you were so kind and helped me again and again when I suddenly arrived from another world and felt so lost, that’s how I was able to grow this much. So really, thank you.”

“Haha, even though you’re still so young, the fact that you can say words of gratitude like that is already impressive. When I was 16 I was just an arrogant little punk. But having gratitude toward others is an incredibly important thing. So Setsuna, you must never lose that grateful heart, okay? From now on, always keep that feeling of thankfulness, and whenever you see someone in trouble, keep living with a kind heart.”

I nodded firmly after hearing the guild master’s words.

When I first came to this world I spent every day feeling lost and anxious, but now I’m able to live happily every day as an adventurer.

And the reason I can enjoy each day like this is all thanks to the kind people around me. So from now on too, I’ll never forget that gratitude and keep living properly and seriously.
