Chapter 31 Creator’s Blessing Vice-Leader
“Our group, The Creator’s Blessing, is the largest clan in this country, and we work hard every day to protect it. However, there are those who would mock us for our efforts. Some might think, ‘What’s the point of protecting a country like this?’ To be honest, even I sometimes feel the same. I think Japan is rotten, full of useless adults who are dragging it down.”
As she continued her speech, the formal explanation began. But… I didn’t know she could speak so clearly like this. If she could act like this more often… no, that’s probably not possible.
Still… while it’s good she’s serious, isn’t she being a bit too extreme? Even though the clan is a government organization, she’s openly calling the country corrupt. As a representative, wouldn’t such a statement cause problems later on?
“Yet, despite that, this is still my homeland. It’s the place where we were born and have lived. That’s why I stay and fight for this country—to make it better, to ensure that even one more person can find happiness. And that’s why I want all of you to fight alongside us, for a future like that.”
…I see. That’s clever. Rather than sugarcoating everything, she’s openly criticizing what’s wrong and then inviting others to help change it. I bet a lot of people would be drawn to a message like that.
If this were just some no-name person with no accomplishments, people would have just listened, thought “that’s nice,” and moved on. But right now, standing before us is the vice-leader of Japan’s top clan. Her words must seem incredibly impressive and valuable to these students.
“This fight isn’t only about physical battles with fists or swords. Supporting your fellow members through administrative work or business negotiations is also a form of battle. Without people handling such tasks, we wouldn’t be able to continue fighting effectively.”
She doesn’t forget to include the importance of support roles. In reality, rear support is crucial. A clan can’t function if it’s only made up of combatants. No matter how strong someone is, if they lack social skills, they’ll just create enemies and obstacles.
“Some of you may not believe what I’m saying. You might think those with combat abilities will be prioritized anyway. But that’s not true. Just look at me! Oh, but please don’t look under my skirt, alright?”
…Wow. What’s with that character? You’re not the type to say something like that.
But the students chuckled, seemingly amused by her casual tone. Some of the guys even leaned down a bit, as if trying to sneak a peek under her skirt. Idiots.
Do they really want to see that badly? Sure, she’s sitting on the stage above us, and even with a blanket on her lap, it might be possible to get a glimpse under her skirt. Plus, in a way, she’s like a national idol. She’s not unattractive either—she’s actually pretty good-looking. From what she’s said, you’d also think she’s a kind person with a strong sense of justice.
She’s 29… or maybe she just turned 30 this year. But for these students, that’s probably still within their acceptable range.
…Wait, when you put it that way, I guess it’s not that strange after all. It’s starting to feel like it makes sense for them to act this way.
While I was thinking about all this nonsense, the speech continued.
“Let me ask you all: do you think I can fight? Do you believe that someone like me, who can only move around in a wheelchair, can actually stand on a battlefield? Of course not. Unless I had a blessing suited for battle, like long-range magic attacks or healing powers, I wouldn’t be able to. My ability is simply to see. It’s powerful, but it’s not something that would allow me to fight on the front lines. And yet, here I am, fighting alongside the clan.”
Well, that’s true. Neither the country nor the clan she belongs to ever puts her on the battlefield. Even so, she holds the position of vice-leader in the clan.
In other words, as she said, they’re not just looking for physical strength.
But still…
“But we don’t have any blessings…”
Even so, it seems like it’s hard for them to fully believe it. I could hear a voice from somewhere questioning the senior’s words, and it seemed she heard it clearly as well.
“You might think, ‘Even so, I am not a ‘Blessed One’.’ But conversely, all I can do is related to blessings. There are many people who can organize documents better than I can. There are plenty of people who are better at negotiating business deals or preparing meals for everyone than I am.”
I know. Actually, you can’t do much beyond drawing and using your ability. You can’t even clean your room, let alone organize documents or read booklets. And when it comes to negotiations, you probably don’t even make it to the discussion stage. If left to your own devices, you might even collapse without preparing your own meals.
Thinking about it, it’s a miracle you’ve managed to survive this long. Isn’t it a miracle that you hold your current position?
“Being able to perform the tasks given to you is valuable in itself, and I believe it is worth as much as having a blessing.”
Knowing her true nature, I understand that she genuinely believes this. But even if someone didn’t know her true nature, they’d probably feel something from her words. The students are looking at the senior… Touka Amamiya, Vice-Leader of The Creator’s Blessing—with eyes full of admiration.
“That’s why, no matter who you are, if you have the determination, we welcome you. However, when joining the clan, a basic level of skill is required, so those who wish to join ‘The Creator’s Blessing’ should study hard.”
With a hint of playful mischief in her voice, she concluded her talk and tried to leave the stage.
However, it seemed she had a problem moving her wheelchair, and she looked flustered, saying, “Oh, oh no…?”
A staff member came out from backstage, but it turned out the issue wasn’t with the wheelchair itself but just forgetting to release the brakes.
Maybe she let her guard down since the talk was over? It’s the kind of mistake that seems typical of her.
Usually, such a mistake might make one feel she’s unreliable, but even that kind of behavior seems endearing. The students watched with friendly smiles as she disappeared backstage.
Maybe she calculated the students’ reactions… No, probably not. It was likely just a simple mistake on her part.
“That’s the top clan for you. They rarely appear in public, so it was great to see her directly like this.”
“She really does look cool at times like these.”
Kiriya, next to me, nodded in admiration, but I could only think of those comments. After all, it’s her…
Sure, I thought she looked impressive during her talk, but knowing her true nature, it was hard for me to genuinely call her cool.
