Act 1: A Guy Who Thinks He’s Been Reborn as a Villain
Chapter 01: Is This What They Call Villain Reincarnation? (It’s Not)
When I woke up, I was greeted by an unfamiliar ceiling.
“Huh…? Where is this?”
Rubbing my slightly heavy head and the faint sense of unease lingering in my chest, I sat up in bed.
The next thing that entered my field of view was… a room straight out of a luxury hotel.
It was huge. Seriously, ridiculously huge.
As I scanned the room, I spotted a chair, a desk, a sofa, a bookshelf—basically, all sorts of fancy furniture, all in pristine white and looking absurdly expensive.
And then there was the bed I had been lying on. Soft, luxurious, and ridiculously big. A king-sized bed with a canopy and about four oversized pillows.
…Wait, since when was my room like this?
No, it wasn’t.
…Something was off.
My room was a cramped six tatami mats at best.
Against the wall, there was a bookshelf, a hanger with clothes haphazardly thrown on it, a backpack tossed on the floor, and a couple of manga I’d just finished reading lying around. It was the usual messy student room.
So why on earth did I wake up in a place this extravagant…?
And more importantly…
“…Where am I?”
The dumbfounded words escaped my mouth before I could stop them.
My head, supposedly awake, was a complete mess of confusion.
This time, I took a slower look around the room… and that’s when I noticed them.
Standing there, dressed in black and white maid outfits, were women.
Not just one or two, either. There were several of them.
“The young master has woken up…!”
“Oh, thank goodness. Finally…”
“But doesn’t he seem a bit… off?”
“Could he possibly be angry with us?”
The group of over a dozen maids standing in a line at the corner of the room started buzzing the moment they noticed me.
Uh… what’s happening here??
The maids looked worried, but at the same time, there was a strange nervousness in their eyes when they glanced at me.
Just then, the sound of hands clapping clap clap echoed through the room.
“―Everyone, quiet down. Young Master, are you awake?”
A clear, commanding voice rang out, calm yet authoritative enough to silence the room instantly.
The maids immediately closed their mouths, and the owner of that voice stepped forward alone.
She had long, shimmering silver hair that seemed to glow, and piercing, almond-shaped blue eyes.
She was taller than the average woman, with long, elegant limbs, yet her figure was strikingly well-proportioned.
Her dignified expression and graceful movements radiated elegance.
And this stunningly beautiful woman… had just called me “young master.”
…Wait, what??
“Erm… young master?”
When I timidly called out to her, she tilted her head slightly, as if unsure how to respond. However, her expression quickly shifted back to calm composure.
“We, the maids of this household, exist to serve you, Reito Hazumi-sama.”
Her reply was short and straightforward, but it only deepened my confusion.
“Reito Hazumi…?”
Who’s that supposed to be?
That’s definitely not my name.
And on top of that, my family isn’t rich enough to afford maids.
I’m just an ordinary high schooler with a salaryman dad and a stay-at-home mom.
So… what on earth is going on here?
“Young Master, is something wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
It’s not just my “feelings”—I don’t understand anything right now.
Even with her asking me that, I had no idea how to respond and just stayed silent.
No, no, this has to be some kind of prank.
What if there’s a hidden camera under one of the maids’ skirts in the corner? Should I, uh… lift it and check?
“…Young Master.”
Suddenly, the beautiful woman locked eyes with me, her expression completely serious.
“Do you happen to remember my name?”
“Your name…?”
How could I remember it when I’m meeting her for the first time?
But if I admitted that, the atmosphere might get super awkward.
After thinking hard, I decided to wing it and say something random.
“Y-You’re so beautiful, so… um, maybe something like Reiko?”
“…!”
Her eyes went wide in surprise, as if she couldn’t believe what she just heard.
“Reito-sama just called her beautiful…”
“…No way!”
“For him to say something like that…”
For some reason, I felt like the maids standing around me were also reacting in a strange way.
Huh? What’s with that response?!
Was it such a cringy line coming from someone as plain as me that they’re totally put off?
Should I just apologize by groveling on the floor right now??
As I floundered, the beautiful woman let out a polite cough, her expression tightening into a serious look.
“Beautiful… you say. Thank you for the compliment. However, my name is Kyoko.”
Ah, so I got it wrong.
But wasn’t I pretty close?
“It seems… there are lingering effects from the accident.”
I heard Kyoko murmuring in a heavy tone.
A-Accident!?
Wait a second, I don’t recall being hit by a truck or anything!
I’m just confused by everything going on right now… that’s all!
“I-I just… need to be alone for a bit!”
Unable to handle the awkwardness any longer, I blurted out those words.
At once, Kyoko and all the maids around her bowed their heads in unison and quietly left the room, saying, “Understood.”
Whoa… that was impressive.
“If there’s anything you need, please don’t hesitate to call for me, Young Master.”
Kyoko gave a polite bow as she was the last to exit.
The door softly clicked shut, and silence filled the luxurious room.
“W-What the heck just happened…?”
Waking up in an unfamiliar place and being surrounded by cute maids… What kind of wild development is this?!
Letting out a big sigh to calm myself down, I glanced toward the large full-length mirror in the room and walked over to it.
When I saw my reflection in the mirror… I was utterly shocked.
“W-Who is this?!”
The face staring back at me was definitely not the one I remembered.
A slim, well-groomed boy with sleek black hair parted in the middle, sharp almond-shaped eyes, and strikingly handsome features stood there.
But beneath his eyes were faint dark circles, and with a slightly irritated expression, he looked a bit intimidating.
And in that moment, I was absolutely convinced.
“This has to be one of those villain reincarnation scenarios!”
A lavish room, a group of cute maids, and their strangely nervous reactions to me.
Plus, this face I now have…
No doubt about it. I’ve reincarnated as a villain!
Villain reincarnation.
It’s a classic trope in novels and manga where instead of being reborn as the story’s protagonist, you end up in the role of the villain—
The one everyone hates, the one who’s doomed to fail, get beaten down, and face ultimate humiliation.
In short, villain reincarnation means a destiny full of doom flags, ending in death.
“Then I’ll just have to crush every last one of those doom flags!”
Clenching my fists and flaring my nostrils with determination, I made up my mind.
But as I started to calm down a bit, a few nagging questions popped into my head.
“Wait a second… What’s the story of this world? What kind of villain am I? Who’s the heroine? And where’s the protagonist?”
Without knowing these things, there’s no way to avoid the doom flags.
Normally, when someone reincarnates, they regain the memories of their past life along with details about the villain they’ve become, like their name and the world’s setting.
But I… don’t remember any of that.
Why is that?
“Well, whatever. I’ll probably remember it later.”
There’s a lot to think about, but in my current state, it’s pointless to overthink.
For now, I just need to calm down.
“Alright… I’ll just take another nap!”
I flopped back onto the fluffy bed.
If there’s one thing humans can rely on, it’s sleep!
And with that thought, I drifted off almost immediately.
…
However… this man was making a huge mistake.
This wasn’t the world of an RPG or any kind of game.
He hadn’t been reincarnated as a villain.
There were no doom flags to avoid.
In fact, his very existence was the flag.
Because this world was—
“Quickly, call the doctor! Nothing must happen to the Hazumi family’s son—no, to one of the few precious men we have!”
Kyoko, who had just stepped out of the room, gave instructions to the maids in a calm yet urgent tone.
Though her demeanor remained composed, the gravity of the situation was undeniable.
After all, this was a world where the gender ratio was irreparably skewed—where men were incredibly scarce, and the concept of chastity had been entirely reversed.
