Volume 7 Chapter 30 Barrier
“…Things have taken an interesting turn. What on earth happened?”
Watching Chisha, who was exhausted on top of the giant centipede, Burn inquired with a sense of wonder.
“Haha… Well, you see, there were a lot of things… uh, but I think we’re probably okay.”
Chisha and Kazaha, riding on the giant centipede Mu-chan, raced through the city at a breakneck speed and safely arrived at Burn, who had launched the flash projectile.
However, the sensation of the ride made Chisha feel queasy, his face turning pale.
“A-anyway, I’m glad we met, Burn. What on earth happened?”
“Yeah, I’ll keep it short because time is scarce. Actually…”
Burn proceeded to tell Chisha and Kazaha what had transpired.
Upon hearing the astonishing account, both of them wore serious expressions, beads of sweat forming on their foreheads.
“…It seems more serious than I thought. The fact that my little critters seem frightened is likely the cause.”
“Yeah, you’re right. We need to figure out what those demons are up to. But first, we have to do something about this barrier.”
Chisha said this and approached the invisible wall, placing her hand against it.
It seemed harmless to touch, tapping it lightly produced a knocking sound.
“What do you think? Can you tell anything?”
“Hmm, just by touching it, it’s hard to tell. Should I examine it more closely?”
Saying this, Chisha began to infuse magical power into his hand as he touched the barrier.
“Magic Analysis, Magi Rise!”
A faint blue light emanated from Chisha’s hand, slowly seeping into the barrier. This light read the information from the barrier and sent it to Chisha’s brain.
“Hmm, it seems like this barrier is actually the combination of two effects.”
“Two? Isn’t it just hard?”
“Yeah, one is as Burn described, a barrier that’s simply hard. Truly befitting a barrier crafted by demons. This hardness might even resist High-Level Magic; it’s uncertain if it can be broken even with Ultra-Level Magic.”
“S-So it’s that tough…”
Even Burn’s magic at full power, which is at the level of High-Level Magic, has its limits. If it can’t be broken with Ultra-Level Magic beyond that, then it’s far beyond what Burn can handle. Of course, being able to use High-Level Magic already makes him exceptional compared to an average student.
“There’s also another barrier that inhibits perception. Due to this, the people inside can’t see what’s happening outside, and no matter how much noise they make in here, it won’t be heard.”
“Hmm, there’s magic like that?”
“Oh, come on, didn’t we learn about it in class?… Well, never mind. The real issue is why the demons are doing this.”
Chisha turned his mind to organize the situation.
He was naturally quick-witted. He believed this ability was a result of his innate talent for analytical magic.
Analytical magic was not very effective when used just as it is. To fully harness its power, you needed an exceptional intellect capable of analyzing and processing the whirlwind of information flowing into your brain. If information beyond the brain’s capacity flooded in, not only would the effect be minimal, but the brain could potentially overload, leaving the person incapacitated or worse.
Hence, even though Ruisha was better at magic than Chisha, he couldn’t use analytical magic as effectively as Chisha, as his intellectual capacity for processing such information wasn’t as advanced.
“Why would they encase the castle with a barrier…? To trap and defeat the kingdom’s strongest knight order? If so, they should have separated the knights to break them down…”
Muttering to himself, Chisha deduced while pushing his thoughts further. The presence of Burn and Kazaha had already vanished from his mind.
“The ‘New Demon King’ the demons were talking about, ‘massacre,’ and this ‘barrier’… There must be a common thread among these. Think… There has to be a meaningful connection…”
Chisha focused intensely on his thoughts.
And after minutes of concentrated contemplation, he finally arrived at the truth.
“…I see! That’s what it is!”
Having arrived at the answer, Chisha suddenly shouted.
Burn and Kazaha, caught off guard, exclaimed, “Whoa!” and “Kyaa!” in surprise.
“What’s with the sudden outburst? It’s startling when you yell like that!”
“S-Sorry, Kazaha, but I’ve figured it out. I know what they’re planning.”
Upon hearing his words, Burn reacted and leaned closer to Chisha.
“Is it true!? Tell us, Chisha!!”
“Yeah, the demons intend to use us as sacrifices.”
“Sacrifices!? What on earth does that mean!?”
“H-Hey, don’t pull my clothes like that. Alright? This is just speculation, but they probably need sacrifices to create this so-called ‘New Demon King.’ To achieve that, the demons are planning to massacre us. But if they try that, won’t the knight order stop them?”
“Of course, that makes sense. If the ritual doesn’t happen, the Demon King won’t be born, right? If there’s no Demon King, they probably can’t defeat the knight order.”
“Exactly, the demons understand that. That’s why they’ve trapped the knight order within this barrier.”
Saying this, Chisha lightly tapped the barrier.
“This barrier isn’t for protection. It’s a prison to keep the knight order locked up until the ritual for the Demon King’s birth is completed.”

Volume 7 Chapter 31 Unleashing Malice
“A prison? What are you talking about? Can you explain it more clearly?”
Burn, struggling to comprehend, desperately asked Chisha.
“Who do you think is the most troublesome opponent when they attack the kingdom?”
In response to Chisha’s question, Burn crossed his arms and began to think.
“Well, adventurers might be troublesome, but… It’s probably the Kingdom’s Knight Order, right? They’re not just skilled individually, their teamwork is also remarkable.”
Satisfied with his answer, Chisha nodded.
“Exactly. The demons would have thought the same. That’s why they created this barrier. To trap the Knight Order in here and render them powerless.”
“Wait a moment, Chisha. Not all the members of the Knight Order are inside the castle, are they?”
“Normally, no. But things are different now. After all, the king and the demon minister are meeting for a dialogue. Most of the Knight Order should be gathered for their security.”
Hearing this, Burn felt a sudden chill run down his spine.
“So, you’re saying that the Knight Order can’t fight the demons right now!? That can’t be true!?”
“Of course, they should be prepared to go outside immediately if there’s an emergency. But due to this barrier, even if the demons start attacking the city, the Knight Order won’t receive that information… This is bad.”
Silence fell upon Chisha and Burn as they faced this despairing situation.
In the midst of this, Kazaha spoke up.
“I wonder if there’s any way to get inside. Given how huge this castle is, there might be secret passages or something, don’t you think?”
“T-That’s it!”
Suddenly shouting out, Chisha seemed lost in thought, startling Burn and Kazaha with a ‘Yikes!’. Ignoring their reaction, Chisha muttered to herself again, starting to think.
“A secret passage, yes, there must be one. If there is, it’s likely a royal escape route… In that case, it should lead to the royal shelter. If that’s the case…!!”
Seeming to have an idea, Chisha looked up and turned towards Kazaha.
“I have an idea. Will you lend me your strength…?”
Upon hearing this, Kazaha smiled lightly and met Chisha’s eyes.
“Of course, why wouldn’t I? Consider us on this journey together!”
“…Thank you, great! Let’s do this!”
“And hey, I don’t fully understand, but count me in too!”
And so, the three of them set out to liberate the royal castle that had been trapped by the barrier.
◇
Meanwhile, in a building near the royal castle.
This three-story, elegant building gave the appearance of a reasonably high-priced inn at first glance.
This is an accommodation facility for foreign dignitaries visiting the kingdom. Although those related to the kingdom could stay within the castle, from a security standpoint, it was not feasible to allow foreigners inside the castle. Therefore, accommodations were built near the castle, and visitors were asked to come to the castle when needed.
The demons brought by Uracan numbered a staggering one hundred and fifty. Of course, it was not possible to accommodate all of them in the castle, so a few of them were accompanied by subordinates while the rest stayed in this lodging.
Until now, the demons had been waiting quietly. However, they finally received orders from Uracan.
“The boss has given the order. Go ahead and rampage to your heart’s content.”
A demon who had entered the lodging at Uracan’s command announced, and the waiting demons eagerly picked up their weapons and stood up.
“Heh, we can finally let loose.”
“I hope there’s someone entertaining to liven things up a bit.”
“Indeed! There were only weaklings in the villages along the way.”
Chatting about such things, the demons went outside. Since only kingdom-related individuals could enter the lodging, there were no civilians inside. Only two security soldiers were present.
Naturally, the demons were prohibited from acting on their own. Yet, they still came out of the building in a group, prompting the two security soldiers to raise their spears and remain vigilant.
“You! Are you aware that going outside is prohibited?”
“Shut up! Insects like you should stay quiet.”
One of the demons lethargically kicked a soldier’s belly. The soldier was sent flying and collided with the wall, slumping to the ground in the same spot. He didn’t seem dead, but the damage appeared to be severe.
“N-N-No…”
The hand holding the spear of the soldier who witnessed this was trembling. He never expected things to escalate like this. He felt the urge to escape, but his legs trembled, rendering him unable to do even that.
“What’s the matter? Are you too scared to run away?”
“Grr…!”
The demon approached the trembling soldier, snapping his fingers mockingly.
Just a few steps away, his hand would reach… At that moment, someone intervened between the two soldiers and the demon.
“Phew… just made it in time, I suppose?”
The figure that appeared seemed to be a young boy. He still looked quite young, dressed in the uniform of the magic academy, indicating that he was a student there.
While they couldn’t fathom why he appeared in such a place, students were to be protected by the soldiers. Thinking they had to help, the soldier tried to step forward, but the boy stopped him with a gesture.
“Leave this to me.”
“Huh…?”
The soldier hesitated, stopped in his tracks by the boy’s confident behavior.
Observing this, the frustrated demon couldn’t wait any longer and threw a punch towards the boy.
“Don’t think just because I’m a kid, you’ll get away with holding back.”
A punch at a furious speed that would knock even adults unconscious. However, the young boy gracefully evaded the attack, countering with a mid-air spinning kick to the face of the demon.
The man, struck by this blow, crashed his face into the ground, letting out a flattened, frog-like sound and losing consciousness.
The soldier and the demon watching were astounded, their mouths wide open. No matter how off guard they were, there was no way an adult demon could be outpaced by a human child. Yet, the young boy before them had pulled it off.
Landing neatly on the ground, the boy assumed a fighting stance against the demon horde. Despite the obviously unfavorable situation, there was no trace of hesitation in his eyes.
“Come at me from anywhere! I’ll take you all on!”
This young boy, Ruisha Bardy, declared boldly.
