26. Thunderclaps in a clear sky.
On Wednesdays, my and Haruhime’s parents come home late.
So Haruhime would spend time with me in my home since she was a little girl. And then, without a word, without hesitation, we would start playing the game of sekkusu.
As if it was a natural thing to do.
Like some sort of ritual.
As if it were a set rule, we play with each other’s bodies.
However, something was different just for today.
“He, here. Tea.”
“Tha–thank you.”
This conversation is awkward.
Haruhime is sitting on a seiza the whole time, and so was I. In addition, she kept staring at the plastic tea bottle that I offered her.
Whenever she tried saying something, her mouth would get stuck up in a pause. I was sure that she was hesitating to speak something out loud.
Likewise for me, I kept struggling to find the right words to say to Haruhime.
Will we really be able to play the game of sex again today? And moreover, what would that even mean for us?
“Um…”
“You know…”
As we were about to say our intentions, our timings coincided and we both fell silent.
“I–, It’s fine. Tet-chan, go ahead and speak first.”
“Nope, Haruhime, you can go first.”
“U-un.”
After fidgeting with her fingers, Haruhime continued,
“Tha– thank you for rescuing me today.”
“No—, ……, –that was more like, I should be the one —to…”
“Unn-un. Today’s Tet-chan was really cool. You played together with me for the first time in a long time and I’m very happy.”
“I also had a lot of fun, too.”
“And you know what, Tetchan.”
‘fu~un’ Haruhime breathed a sigh of relief. It was as if she was going to say something really important, Haruhime was trying to get her breathing under control.
Then she looked straight at me and said,
“I think I’ll pause coming here on Wednesdays for a while.”
“…… that, that is.”
My mind immediately went blank. The words didn’t come in properly.
Haruhime won’t visit on Wednesdays anymore?
“But why?”
“I have been thinking about it. About me, about Tet-chan.”
I started to imagine a number of words in my head. What will Haruhime say next. I was utterly terrified of that possibility.
“I want to get my feelings together,”
Haruhime paused for a moment, and then sat down on the bed, looking down at me.
“I am thinking of making today as the last day for our grown-up games.”

I stared at my chest. Thinking if there was some sort of knife that had just pierced upon me.
