16. ~Sekkusu ~Chansu
Going out with each other? In response to Inawashiro’s question Haruhime became a bit puzzled and frozen for a moment.
“What happened? I–is something wrong?”
“Well, you know. Is it not amazing to have a childhood friend who is so close to each other? Moreover they go back and forth to each other’s houses. So, I wondered if they were already a match, that’s all … But, in real, how is it?”
Inawashiro leaned forward and asked Haruhime. As if not at all surprised or taken aback by that question, Haruhime simply answered.
“U~unn, we’re not in a dating each other at all. We are just simple childhood friends.”
“I see…I see………”
As if bored by that reaction, Inawashiro sat down on the cushion cross-legged.
… So we are not dating huh. Well, technically that is true.
But still, to hear her say it again from her mouth especially, I am forced to think and admit that, it is definitely the case. We are just normal childhood friends, if there is something that is different between us, that is just the fact that on Wednesdays we play the game of sekkusu with each other. That’s all.
“What is with that. So boring.”
Inawashiro let out a disgrunted sigh.
“But, it is true that we get along with each other very well.”
Haruhime said with a soft smile.
“Tet-chan is very, very kind.”
“He doesn’t appear that way though.”
“It is just that Marie-chan doesn’t know much about it, right, Tet-chan?”
Haruhime shrugged her shoulders turning my way.
” … I wonder if that’s really true.”
One day, the game of sekkusu we share with each other may disappear before long. For example, like this, we make good friends and then get busy with life, even Haruhime will not come close to this house.
When that happens,
“Say, do you have coke?”
Inawashiro said, spinning the pencil around her finger.
“Coke? I wonder if we do.”
Haruhime glanced at me. I shook the unpleasant thought out of my head and replied,
“Sorry, I only got water with me.”
“Nope, nope, no, worries. I’ll just go and buy some for myself.”
“It’s a bit of a walk until the combini, I don’t think you can get one around unless you reach near the main road. It will take about 15-mins by walk.”
“It’s pretty far huh. Well, that’s fine by itself. I’ll just go there for a change of pace.”
As if her legs got numb, Inawashiro left the room mumbling “Aita-ta-ta” after struggling a bit with the pain. In the room when we were left all alone, Haruhime giggled and said,
“Marie-chan, she’s quite funny, isn’t she?
“Well, she doesn’t seem to be a bad person at least.”
“Everyone treats her like a yankee, even though she isn’t.”
“I thought so too. Prejudice is quite the scary thing.”
Although I had the impression that Inawashiro was a bit tsundere, but after I talked to her, Inawashiro this openly, she came out to be a pretty good girl. Unlike those who gossip behind your back, Inawashiro has a much better personality.
“I can kind of understand why you and her hit it off so well together as well.”
Giggling at my words, Haruhime grabbed a pen. But soon after she put it down on the table, after which she tucked her hair behind her ear and then whispered softly, in a seductive tone.
“So, what are you going to do now?”
“Nn?”
“Today’s Wednesday, isn’t it.”
Haruhime said without making an eye contact with me. Her face, bathed in the sunlight coming in through the window, was looking intently at her notebook.
“The game of Grown-ups. Just like every Wednesday …… It’s our promise, right?”
