Chapter 2: Impurity And The Fox’s Wedding
The summer vacation…
Back when I was a guy, I decided to go to my father’s countryside.
My father’s hometown was in the mountains, a place that could be called truly rural.
There I met a fox spirit named Kon.
Kon was in a lot of trouble, and after listening to Kon’s request, I became the beautiful silver-haired girl I am today.
Furthermore, even reality got altered such that I was a woman from birth, and I was supposed to be the only one… who knew I used to be a man.
However…
“O-oh, why did you become a woman…?”
“Magami, why did you become a woman…?”
I was shocked after saying that.
(Kon, what is this about?)
(Rather than that, there’s trouble, kon! The drift is overflowing, kon!)
(At a time like this? … Damn it.)
“Magami, we’ll talk about it later.”
“Ah, hey?!”
I say that and run towards the window.
The classroom was on the third floor, and someone would have normally tried to stop me from jumping, but there was no reaction.
It was no wonder. Everyone around me stood still as if someone had pressed the stop button on a video.
I couldn’t see behind me, but Magami must have probably stopped as well.
“What an innocent look… I wish I could marry you,” I muttered to myself.
Despite the weather being a clear day a moment ago, it suddenly started raining.
By the time I landed on the ground, the rain had stopped, and my outfit had changed from a school uniform to a white kimono.
However, the white kimono’s design was quite revealing, leaving my legs and stomach on full display. Furthermore, I had a sword on my waist.
Fox ears appeared on my head and a fox mask on the side of my head.
I looked at my appearance, and at the same time, Magami’s image from earlier came to mind.
Magami had become a beautiful woman with long blond hair and great style.
(Why did this have to happen? I’ll have to ask her later about it.)
As I was thinking about it, a gate leading to a different space appeared in front of me.
The gate’s destination was an unfamiliar shopping street.
What was clearly an abnormality was the black haze that had a human form.
“It’s troubling to see so much Impurity appearing…”
“Hinata, be careful fighting, kon.”
Kon’s voice came from the sword I had on my waist.
The sword was one of Kon’s transformations, and its name is Konpaku (Spirit Sword).
It’s a sword with the power to purify the humanoid haze, known as the Impurity.
“I shall purify the path of the corrupted wedding.”
[TLN: I died with this, “穢れた嫁入りへの道、浄化させて頂きます”]
I put the fox mask on my face and slashed at the nearby Impurity with the sword.
A shining light traced after the slash, and the Impurity started disappearing as if it was melting.
With this, I was able to purify one of them… But the rest, having realized my presence, ran toward me all at once.
The Impurity changed part of their hand into a blade and slashed at me.
I tried to counterattack while dealing with their attacks, but there were too many of them, and I couldn’t get a grip.
“Hinata, use your tail, kon.”
“Ah, that’s right. I usually don’t have it, so I keep forgetting about it.”
I dealt with the Impurities’ attacks with my sword and avoided some hits by twisting my body.
Then, I dodged by lowering my head and spinning around. The tail, which appeared during my transformation, held onto an Impurity’s leg and made it fall over.
Repeating these steps multiple times to reduce the Impurity’s movement, I slash down and purify those coming toward me.
All that was left was to repeat it multiple times…
“There are too manyyyyyy!!”
I ended up whining unintentionally from the sheer number of Impurities that appeared.
It’s probably because of my whining.
At one point, my tail missed and gave an Impurity a chance to attack me.
“Oh, shi—”
I was prepared to get slashed at that moment by the Impurity… but it got suddenly blown off to the side.
“Good grief. This is hard to watch.”
I heard a voice above me.
When I looked up, there stood a woman wearing a wolf mask and a rider suit that lavishly exposed her stylish proportions.
A short explanation of the random stuff.
The protagonists’ power seems to be based on the concept of 狐の嫁入り, or The Fox’s Wedding, therefore all the weddings mentions. As for the rain, 狐の嫁入り is also used to refer to sunshowers, where people believed that foxes did it to hide something.
