Chapter 77: Operation Cooking Part 1
“Hmm♪ Mhm♪”
Sunday.
I was preparing food at Kashiwagi’s mansion next to the hospital while humming to myself.
Why am I doing this in a place like this you ask?
It would be a bit silly to explain it.
But let me explain anyway.
At that time, when we were at the Japanese Festival in Santaña,
I confessed my love to Kashiwagi-san, who was watching fireworks, and miraculously got her OK.
And as her now boyfriend, I am currently making a dish of love for her…
That was not the case, of course.
Afterward, I just dropped Kashiwagi off at her house and returned to the hospital.
For me, it was a miracle that Kashiwagi even agreed to go out with me.
So there was no way I was going to do anything to ruin our relationship.
Although, we didn’t actually hold hands yet.
Anyway, the reason why I am cooking at Kashiwagi’s house is different.
After I dropped Kashiwagi off at her house after the festival, Lilia was waiting for me in my room at the hospital for some reason.
“You forgot to lock the door again, you know?”
“Oh, yeah, come to think of it, I was so excited to be able to go out with Kashiwagi-san that I forgot.”
“Really, Japanese people are so careless. What if someone had broken into your room?”
“I know, I feel like it’s been messed up… my bed, for example…”
I had carefully arranged it before I left.
However, the bedding and blankets on the bed were somehow messy after I got back.
“T-that’s not true! It was always this messy! You’re so sloppy!”
Lilia frantically denied it, her face turning bright red.
She must have been reading manga on my bed again.
Even so, it was quite something to mess up the bed like that.
“Come to think of it, that may be true.”
“T-that’s right! That’s what I’m saying!”
I wasn’t angry, so I decided to go along with Lilia’s story.
If I thought of it as a prank, it was cute.
Lilia breathed a sigh of relief and pointed to the table.
My food and her food were already arranged facing each other.
“Come on, let’s eat together. Otherwise, I won’t be able to read my doujinshi.”
Lilia had been waiting for me to come back before eating.
“You didn’t read doujinshi without my permission, did you? It was supposed to be in the room.”
“Of course not. I promised you, didn’t I? Unlike someone, I don’t make promises I can’t keep.”
I handed Lilia a souvenir from the festival that I was holding in my hand, wondering who this “someone” she’s talking about was.
“Here are some desserts for you today! Look, strawberry candy and chocolate bananas! I bought them at the festival!”
I thought since she’s a girl, she would probably like sweet things, so I chose these two.
It’s not too much, so I think she can finish them even after dinner.
“Beautiful! And it smells so sweet! Let’s eat our dinner quickly! And I’ll eat it while reading the doujinshi!”
It seemed to work out as planned, and Lilia-chan was surprisingly happy.
Of course, I had confirmed with Lilia’s doctor, Renji-san, that it was okay for her to eat these things.
“You can’t read while eating those, you know? The book will get dirty.”
“Ugh, right… I can’t have such a great book defiled. Okay, I’ll read it after I’ve finished eating properly.”
Lilia surprisingly has a straightforward personality.
She follows instructions and can take care of things well.
But why in the world am I so hated even by such a good kid…?
“I heard there’s a New Year’s Eve countdown in Santaña! If you want, you can go with me then, Lilia!”
“You know, do you think someone like me, an indoor person, would want to go to a place like that? It’s better to eat sweet things here inside.”
“You really seem to like sweets..”
As we sat at the table and started eating, I asked Lilia.
“There’s no one who hates sweet things. There are people who drink bitter black coffee, but they’re just enduring it.”
“Hahaha, I don’t think that’s true…”
At that moment, I noticed Lilia’s unusual behavior.
“Huh? You’re using your fork with your right hand today, you usually use your left hand, don’t you?”
“…It’s not a big deal, I’m ambidextrous, so it doesn’t matter. I just happen to use my left hand more often.”
“I see… but anyway, the hospital food here is delicious, isn’t it? I thought food here would have less flavor, but I guess that’s just how it is in the U.S.”
“What do you think of the U.S. huh? Here the food is tasty, although I get bored with the same old thing. So the food you brought from the festival was a perfect answer!”
“Then why didn’t you come with me instead, Lilia, so you could’ve eaten whatever you wanted?”
“No, I’m not going. I hate you, and I would have gone if I were alone, but you people… won’t let me do that.”
I’m still not likable enough to go out somewhere together.
(But you can use this one…!)
I came up with a brilliant idea in my mind.
Lilia is tired of hospital food.
In other words, if I can satisfy her appetite, we can become better friends!
“Well, I’ll treat you to a home-cooked meal! Lilia, don’t you want to try something different once in a while?”
Lilia nodded at my words.
“Good! All Japanese people can make sushi, right! I want some sushi!”
“Uh… Unfortunately, not all can can’t make sushi…”
“Hmm! I love tuna! I can’t forget the sushi restaurant my mom and dad took me to…”
Lilia started to talk about her memories of eating sushi with her family.
So I can’t really say I can’t make it after seeing that..
“Sushi, huh… well, I’ll leave it to me… ahaha.”
“I’m looking forward to it! Ah…no, I’ll leave it to you!”
Lilia came back to herself from her high tension, blushed and cleared her throat.
She seemed to have high hopes for this.
Lilia was shaking her head at me.
Well, there is no way I could cloud such a pure smile.
And so on for the next few days.
I desperately studied how to make sushi.
Then, the promised Sunday.
I managed to create something and borrowed Kashiwagi-san’s kitchen and had today’s event to serve it to Lilia.
