With great powers, comes a great harem! - Chapter 99.5- SS: Why do you love me?
Once the vacation began it was only the supplementary classes that were being held in the Tower and it wasn’t mandated for the students who stayed back in the Tower during vacation to attend these classes.
Yuki, who was not very good with basic spells and the history of magic, decided to take these classes and naturally, Maya followed him even though she was academically the best first year.
“Yuki-kun, if you are eager to know more about the basic spells and their application, it would be better to spend some time in the library with Maya-san.” The teacher suggested when Yuki came to submit his today’s class report which every student has to prepare.
Yuki raised his brows before nodding, ” I will do just that. Thanks, Professor.”
The middle-aged man smiled before he took the report and allowed Yuki to leave.
Maya was waiting for him outside the classroom.
As he walked out, Yuki asked, “Shall we go to the cafeteria? Are you hungry?”
Maya gently shook her head before asking, “I am not…do you have anything you want to do, Yuki-sama?” His slightly enthusiastic tone signified that there was something Yuki wanted to do far better than eating right now. With a glint in his eyes, he practically vibrated with anticipation.
“Ahah…was I that obvious?” As they walked in the corridor, Yuki asked, “Since we have the whole afternoon and Shio must be training her new skills as well, shall we spend some time in the library?”
Maya’s body jerked and if she had long ears, they would flap in joy. Spending alone time with her Lord? Maya would be insane to think twice before nodding.
“Okay then, let’s go.”

The library felt as quiet as the rest of the school. Just a few students, maybe three or four, were scattered around, buried in their books with pens scratching softly. Even the librarians seemed to be taking it easy. Today, there was only one at the desk, unlike the usual crew of three.
Maya and Yuki ducked through the heavy library doors, the loud hallway replaced by a hushed silence. The usual chattering crowd was gone, replaced by a handful of students scattered around the vast space. Textbooks were open, pens scratching across the paper, the only sound breaking the quiet.
Yuki, with a mischievous glint in his eye for a magical history quest, led the way towards the back. It wasn’t just peace he needed; distance was key. Yuki knew his brain would turn into a question factory with Maya there to help, and he didn’t want to turn their study session into a full-blown lecture for the rest of the library.
Maya followed his lead silently and while on the way she detected her surroundings for any suspicious presence.
She couldn’t allow anyone to disturb their date.
Yuki pulled a chair for Maya on which she sat after whispering a thanks.
Yuki went to find some of the books he wanted Maya to teach him.
Although Maya considered this a date, she knew they were not here to get lovey-dovey. Her Lord wants to study and needs her help that’s why they were here
…However, it didn’t stop her from feeling a little disappointed. But naturally, she hid it brilliantly.
“Hey.” Maya was shaken out of her reverie upon seeing fingers snapping in front of her face.
“I apologize.” She lowered her head in embarrassment for diving into her world when they were here for a motive.
Yuki sighed before he sat down beside her and put the books on the desk.
“I have been wanting to ask this for a long time now Maya….why do you seem so formal toward me?” Although not much time has passed since Yuki and Maya cleared all the misunderstandings and started to go out, still this much formality made him feel somehow distant from her.
Maya blinked in surprise since the course of the conversation diverted all too suddenly. Regardless, she didn’t keep him waiting and responded, “It’s because….I respect Yuki-sama more than anyone else.”
“Hmm? But why? I ain’t even the strongest person you have met. I mean, your father is probably a lot stronger than me.” Yuki stated casually but he was slightly embarrassed after hearing her reason.
Maya shook her head, “Being strong doesn’t mean one could gain respect. I adore Yuki-sama because you are the one on whom I have only allowed myself to rely. I feel, whatever the situation, Yuki-sama would deal with it, somehow.”
That….made him elated and slightly nervous.
“What if I fail to protect you?” Yuki asked as he rested his chin on his hand, further his elbow planted on the desk.
Maya’s lips extended in a soft smile, “Then I won’t blame you and while celebrating the moments I have spent with you, I would bid my farewell.”
Yuki’s eyes widened slightly and his lips parted in shock.
He held her hand and spoke in a slightly stern tone, “Don’t ever say anything like that again. Until I am alive, I won’t let anything happen to you.”
Being reprimanded by her Lord, Maya showed no sign of apprehension, rather she had a wide smile adorning her lips.
Yuki heaved a sigh seeing that. She really is a unique one.
The two fell into silence but neither of them bothered to move on to studies. They just sat there gazing into each other’s eyes.
It is a blissful feeling to share these moments with the person you love. It makes you feel that life can be sometimes beautiful.
“Maya…why do you love me so much?” Yuki asked in a whispering voice, and gentler this time.
His fingers softly caressed her hand as he relayed the question.
Maya blushed slightly at the query, but answered without hesitation, “Because you are the person who taught me many things. And love was one of them.”
With a smile, he shook his head, “Really…you are still living in our childhood eh… ”
Maya held his hand, surprising Yuki before she shared her thoughts on what he just said,
“You are wrong, Yuki-sama. Although I still reminisce about our childhood…I know we aren’t children anymore.” As she said, she slowly pulled his hand and rested it on her bosom,
” You can tell right?”
Yuki’s face was matching the color of his eyes by now. This aggressive side of Maya….he has seen for the first time.
And Yuki was not so ready for this!

A/N:- Things are not going well for the story so I thought of a small side chapter to add a slice-of-life element.
