With great powers, comes a great harem! - Chapter 91- Loser
Yuki never had a good relationship with his cousin, Misaki. Not because the said boy always has been extremely cocky and full of himself, but because, Yuki was himself like that when he was in the clan.
Trying to be a hero. Boasting his status as the leading heir and favorite grandson of Ryouya…Yuki has a fair share of memories that make his current self, embarrassed.
That is why, he never tried shortening the distance between himself and Misaki, rather on the contrary Yuki used to remind him of the difference in status that Yuki and Misaki carried.
He never knew the small pranks and bullying he used to do in the past would turn out to be so poisonous that one day, Yuki would be facing his brother in an official battle. And given the blood lust Misaki was extruding, Yuki knew he couldn’t afford to hold back.
Apart from his brother, there were eight more people who certainly seemed to be in a daze. Their eyes seemed empty and they made little to no movement while standing. Almost like they were nothing but robots.
Yuki received advice from Shirakawa Yuiichi regarding the guests who challenged him. As now it seems, he was correct. These eight appeared to be under some kind of hypnosis.
‘But who…and why? ‘ Yuki didn’t have information regarding everyone’s background but considering they were invited here meant they were rich and influential. For someone like them to get mentally controlled—it was clear as day that the manipulator was good at his skills and was present here.
Yuki didn’t text Maya about it since he knew, she would get concerned and might try to stop the battle. However, Yuki was intending to find the manipulator.
The first hurdle to cross was to battle against these men and try to pry into their heads to find the manipulator.
For the battle, everyone made a circle in the middle of the venue which was spacious enough to accommodate ten people easily. A protective barrier that went from the floor to the ceiling was erected by one of the bodyguards who works for Raymond Willson.
Yuki was slightly surprised that Ryan didn’t take the opportunity to battle against him. Yuki was aware of Ryan’s feelings towards Maya, so it was a surprise.
‘Maybe he doesn’t want to challenge me along with so many people?’ Yuki inwardly mumbled.
However, unlike what he assumed, Ryan was actually traumatized after what happened the last time he fought against Yuki and ‘nearly’ lost his life.
“There are no rules. Do whatever you want to defeat your enemy.” Yuiichi, who was supposed to be the referee just conveyed some ‘strict’ and ‘detailed’ rules.
Many from the audience gasped, and those who came here with those guests who challenged Yuki objected.
“How is this allowed? Are you saying that inflicting a fatal wound is alright?!”
“Is this some kind of joke?!”
“Rihito! Come back to us! You do-!!”
Suddenly, every mouth and movement across the venue paused as a domineering aura washed over the place like a tsunami and instilled fear in the audience. Even Kaede wasn’t immune to it.
Ryouya had just moved his foot to the left a little, and the whole place was under defeating silence.
With all eyes turned in his direction, Ryouya uttered some words that were directed toward the ten people who went to challenge Yuki.
“If any of you aren’t content with the condition then you are free to leave.”
No one moved. Yuiichi heaved a long sigh before turning back toward the battle stage.
“Now then, begin.” In a tired tone, he slashed his hand and announced the commencement.
A series of spells was chanted by the people standing across Yuki. Some of them were Flame, some Wind and some even boosted another candidate to charge up their spells.
‘Damn…talk about sync…’ Yuki was impressed by their cooperation since none of them chanted any spell that could oppose or negate the other one’s.
The chanting speed was not incredible, or maybe since Yuki had gotten used to facing prodigies in the Tower, he found these people incredibly slow.
‘Elemental…all of them huh…’ He took his time assessing every spell before finally, something advanced in his direction.
Four massive fireballs, three air cannons, and some rock bullets. Strangely, Misaki has yet to make a move.
Yuki kept his cousin under close watch and allowed the spells to advance toward him.
Those who didn’t know Yuki or his skills thought that if he didn’t defend himself or move away instantly then he might be good as dead.
However,
**BOOOOOOOOM**
Before those spells could reach their destination, a magic-resistant barrier was erected before Yuki and withstood every attack without showing any sign of being damaged.
Not a single hair strand of his moved despite the whole venue shaking under the fierce collision of those many spells against the unshakable barrier
Smoke covered the battle stage on the left side, where the nine contenders were standing. Meanwhile, Yuki still was visible.
“Huh?! Where did he go?” Someone from the audience suddenly exclaimed as everyone saw Yuki disappearing from his spot and the barrier he summoned; disappearing.
The smoke slowly began to fill the whole arena and a thin smirk lifted Ryouya’s lips.
Maya clenched her fist in slight apprehension but she didn’t make any move to interrupt the battle. And soon, when the smoke dissipated, her decision was proven to be correct.
Only seven seconds passed since Yuki removed his barrier and when the arena became visible to others, the previously eight out of nine standing contestants could be seen currently lying on the ground.
Only Misaki remained still standing and it was only because Yuki willed it to happen as such.
The dark green-haired boy looked around him in horror. Forget about the young ones, the adults should have some experience to give Yuki a hard time—Misaki believed. However, like a whirlwind, Yuki traveled around the arena and defeated everyone like he was just taking a walk in the park.
“Hahaha! That’s my grandson!” Ryouya boasted Yuki’s overwhelming victory.
Everyone knew that Misaki wouldn’t be able to do anything against Yuki, who recently showed his capability.
Standing a few meters apart from his cousin, Yuki suggested, “I will advise you to forfeit, Misaki, or this surely gonna hurt. ”
“Shut up! I won’t take orders from someone like you! ”
Yuki sighed, witnessing the qualities his cousin had developed in these years.
Misaki, shutting off his conscience, wielded his sword and enhanced it with magic. He has awakened a very basic skill, ‘Enhancement’ which allows him to strengthen his body and weapon temporarily by several folds.
Utilizing his all, Misaki lunged at Yuki with his sword raised over his head. His eyes were blood red and his finger dug in the fabric of the handle. When he advanced towards Yuki, his sole motive was to kill his opponent.
“DIE!!” Misaki swung his blade downward, aiming for Yuki’s head and intending to split him in two.
*CLANG*
However, something halted his movement before his blade could reach its destination.
Misaki’s whole body jerked because of the sudden interruption of momentum.
However, the pain that arrived from the jerk in his shoulders was entirely overshadowed by the shock he received upon witnessing the cause of cessation.
“You have gotten stronger my brother.” Holding the blade between his thumb and index finger, Yuki smiled at his brother.
“However—” Suddenly, Misaki felt heat accumulating around his belly as he heard some words that would haunt him for the rest of his life, “—you are still a loser.”
Those were the last words, Misaki heard before he was thrown across the arena before crashing against the arena barrier.
Thirty-seven seconds it took for the battle to conclude.
