With great powers, comes a great harem! - Chapter 89- Interrupted
“Damn…that’s some plot of a light novel. The family of the heroine is trying to get rid of the bastard child whom everyone deemed unworthy…oof.” Kaede dramatically blew some air to cool herself.
She heard the full story of what happened back in the Tower—the incident in the infirmary and also with Maya’s assistant.
“Ahaha….you can say that. The things that have happened for the past few weeks around us are nothing short of surprising and dramatic.” Yuki replied before a sigh seeped through his lips.
Maya didn’t have much of a reaction but inwardly she was thankful that Yuki didn’t tell her the conversation Maya and Yuki had in the administration office. Somethings…she wanted only the two of them to know.
“And now what? Has the Karuizawa clan given you the green flag? And what about the clan head’s wife? Has she accepted you as her son-in-law?”
Maya took a quick sip of the juice to hide the creeping blush. The fact Kaede regarded Yuki as the son-in-law meant she saw Maya and Yuki as husband and wife, right? Right?
“I mean, does she have an option? I already had a chat with the Patriarch and he doesn’t seem to be against our relationship.”
From what Yuki has observed, Maya’s father just wants a worthy man to be her partner. He doesn’t care about his family background or the past he carried. And because of that, Yuki respected him.
“Hmm~well, I hope you two do well. On a side note, keep your eyes open, Yuki. There are many people present here who might cause trouble.”
Soon after she picked up the glass and got up, “I have some people to meet, then after I will probably leave. ”
Yuki nodded before Kaede made her way towards the crowd, from where many people were glancing in her direction.
Once she left, Maya asked, “Yuki-sama…why does she favor you so much? Does she have some hidden intent?”
Maya has learned enough from life to know that nothing comes for free. And the deal that looks incredibly beneficial seems the most suspicious to her.
Not to talk about the person doing the favor here is that anomaly who has never been affiliated with any organization or government before. A free-willed yet cunning type of person who knows her way to live in this world.
“To be honest, I am not sure why she helped me so much but it’s a fact that in the future, if the chance arrives, I will do my best to return the favor.”
Seeing that soft smile on her Lord’s face, sent a chill down her spine.
Wait…returning the favor…what if that Hunter asks for those kinds of favors?
Maya couldn’t help but glance at Kaede again.
Not only she is strong and young, but Kaede also possesses a very sharp and charismatic beauty that attracts people wherever she goes.
‘Need to be on alert…’ Maya clenched her fist under the table and resolved to not let the number of occupants of Yuki’s room, increase.
“Ah, it’s starting….” Suddenly, upon hearing Yuki’s words, Maya turned her gaze toward the aisle where only a single silver-headed man stood and gathered every eye in his direction just by his presence.
“Ladies and gentlemen, first of all, I would like to thank you all for joining this celebration.”
His voice reached every corner of the place thanks to the voice enhancer chip attached to the base of his neck.
Every person was now focused on the man named Kurokawa Ryouya, as he continued,
“I hope you all had a great year and the following one would be better than the last. So let’s raise our glasses to the bond we share and keep the amber of motivation, alive. Cheers. ”
“Cheers.”
Everyone raised their respective glasses and followed suit.
Yuki and Maya remained seated and watched the man without any particular emotion on their faces. They were….just waiting for what Ryouya would say next. And it wasn’t just the two, but many others as well, who had a very keen interest in the announcement Ryouya was about to make.
“Today, as we gather on this joyous occasion, I feel compelled to share a decision I’ve recently reached.”
Here it comes. The declaration that would change the face of Japanese hierarchy and overturn the belief that everyone has been following for decades.
And not betraying everyone’s expectations Ryouya called out, “Yuki, join me.”
Yuki did as he was told before he left Maya’s side and walked towards the stage, where every gaze looked at him intently. Yuki remained unfazed and faced the audience with an indifferent front.
Ryouya, once again, began,
“Many of you are likely aware of my grandson’s identity. Kurokawa Yuki not only recently earned his place in the Tower through hard work and dedication but also showed remarkable resilience by surviving the terrorist attack on his own. Words cannot express how proud I am to call him my grandson.”
Yuki wanted to scoff, hearing such words. Just a month ago, this old man didn’t even care whether Yuki was alive or not…and now, he was boasting about him like they shared a very harmonious relationship. And not only Yuki but mostly everyone here must have similar thoughts.
Regardless, no one here had the guts to interrupt him, and as such he continued,
“It didn’t take me long to reach a decision: if there’s anyone who can carry on the mantle of the clan after me, it’s none other than Yuki. He’s not only endured the hardships as a commoner for many years but also overcome every obstacle, shining brightly through it all.”
Yuki raised his brows. He didn’t expect the old man to mention the phase of Yuki’s life when he lived as the disowned child of Kurokawa. But well.
To be disregarded for so many years and suddenly getting praised by the clan head…indeed, today was a strange day.
Regardless of his internal musing, the older man finally announced the decision he has recently taken yet he couldn’t have been any more sure about it,
“I, Kurokawa Ryouya, hereby declare today that Kurokawa Yuki shall be the next head of the Kurokawa clan, and all authority shall be entrusted to him upon Yuki’s graduation from the-”
“Can I dare say something here, Patriarch?”
A cold wind passed across the hall and the speaker himself felt he has just inches closer to death as his body turned entirely stiff; just a moment later he interrupted Ryouya.
It was the second son of the Patriarch, who came forward with his expression morphed from indifference to pure fear.
Yuki sighed; he expected as much.
However, what he or no one else expected was the other voice that would end this dangerously tranquil atmosphere with his voice,
“I also seem to have some issue with your decision, Patriarch.”
Every gaze turned towards the silver-head man standing at a corner with a laid-back posture.
Yuki’s eyes widened upon witnessing the man after so long.
It was Yuki’s father—Kurokawa Yuiichi.

A/N:- The events would be fast forwarded a little. I was so unsure of how to end this chapter that I began writing this chapter two days ago, and finished it today.
