With great powers, comes a great harem! - Chapter 81- There is a way
The Tower allowed the students to return to their homes on vacations around Christmas, however, it was not necessary to leave.
Many students, mainly immigrants, stay in the Tower and attend extra classes from the teachers during the vacation. However, since these classes aren’t supervised by the regular educators many students do not feel the need to stay in the school rather than enjoying Christmas with their families.
Naturally, someone like Yuki, whose only family was living in the Tower as an employee, would not need to go anywhere to spend the vacations. However, it was not the same for Shio since she had a family back in Tokyo.
That was why, the very next day she recovered, Yuki decided to take her back home to let her meet her family.
After the meeting with her father, Maya decided to return to the Tower and look out for any possible threat to Amaye. Yuki appreciated her kindness and told her that he might return the next day—with or maybe without Shio.
Since this was the first time Shio was going to meet her parents after she joined Yuki, she might stay with them for some days.
However, just as they were about to reach her house, Shio told him,
“We will leave tomorrow, Yuki-kun.”
Yuki was naturally surprised as he suggested, “There is no rush you know. We ca-”
“No, it’s quite alright. There is something I must do once we return.” The smiling face she had was not quite smiling. It felt like she was just trying to act casual around him but in actuality, she was hurting.
The silence between them was uncomfortable—something which Yuki was not used to. Especially around the person with whom he has spent so many days together.
“Shio…is something on your mind?”
Yuki hoped that she could share her troubles with him since the atmosphere around her made him anxious.
“Yes…there is. Would you like to hear it?”
Yuki nodded instantly.
Shio took a deep breath with her gaze now focused toward the front as she began, “There was a time when I vowed to myself that whatever threat stands against us, I will always protect Yuki-kun and keep him safe by my side. Although that sentiment remains, I feel I am no longer required for that job. ”
Yuki looked at her, intending to say something but his hand was enveloped by Shio’s as she shook her head and wordlessly asked him to remain silent.
Yuki gulped in bitterness before nodding for her to continue.
“You know me, Yuki-kun. Seeing your progress in life and gaining the strength to overwhelm your foes…it feels like I am achieving something great in life. However, the faster you are growing…the vast gap it seems is getting drawn between us.”
Yuki’s hold on her tightened but it didn’t stop her from continuing, “I feel like…I am holding you back and this realization is killing me from the inside.”
Clutching the fabric over her chest, Shio uttered in a dim tone, that only Yuki could hear. The hot moisture that slid down her cheeks was more because of self-hatred and helplessness.
Looking up at him, her sobbing voice reached his ears, “Yuki-kun….y-you won’t…you won’t abandon me right…?”
Yuki dropped the bag from his hand before he pulled the girl into his embrace and heard her cries of wails amplifying. He never noticed how much she was burdened because of that incident.
She got to know that Maya was not allowed to help Yuki because he desired to get the names of the perpetrators. However, the fact that Shio could have helped yet she remained out cold throughout, must have weighed over her mind ever since.
“Are you a fool, Shio? You, of all people, have supported me in my worst and saved my life so many times. The person who allowed a useless bum like me to feel special and also made me feel loved unconditionally…I would rather kill myself before the thought of abandoning you comes to my mind.”
Whether it was his soothing words or the hug she much needed, Shio’s sobs leveled down soon, as she remained standing near him with her hand holding his shirt.
Yuki was naturally concerned for the girl he holds so dear to his heart which forced him to ask her, “Shio…there is a way for you to become stronger.”
Shio immediately lifted her head with a glimmer of hope igniting in her eyes.
“Whatever it takes…please just tell me…”
Yuki sighed witnessing the hunger for power in her eyes before he softly caressed her head and informed her, “But be aware, the skill I will bestow on you will only remain integrated if you continuously keep working on it. If not, you might face consequences.”
The skill Yuki was talking about derives from his skill [Slavery]. The power to form a bond with his partners and share things with them—whether it is thoughts or power—could be attained.
However, to give a skill to Shio nearly means forcing a reawakening on her. This wouldn’t be as destructive as it is for general reawakens however, there was a more severe drawback if Shio’s body couldn’t maintain the skill.
Shio might lose her capability to use magic altogether.
This was why Yuki never told either of his lovers about the possibility of them gaining more skills. He was expecting something like this from Shio.
However, looking at her miserable state he knew if he didn’t reveal this secret and help Shio regain her self-confidence then she might end up partaking in something extreme.
“So, since when can we start training?” Hearing her innocent tone and gazing at those eagerly bright eyes, Yuki felt a little troubled.
“Umm..for this, normal training wouldn’t be required.” Shio tilted her head in confusion upon hearing those words. Just now, it was Yuki who said that she needed to work hard to gain the skill. And now…
Yuki was feeling way too embarrassed to say this however he knew if he kept this a secret the curious Shio might bring it up even in front of her parents.
Resolving himself, he looked around the empty street to see if someone was listening before he leaned forward and whispered softly in her ear,
” Fweh?” Shio’s eyes began to twirl and her face unnaturally got heated up hearing Yuki’s words.
Before visiting her parents, Yuki and Shio had to first take a round trip to a love hotel…
