With great powers, comes a great harem! - Chapter 80- Compensation
The mediator of the incident that occurred in the Tower, was Maya’s ex-assistant Catherine—a fact that the Karuizawa Patriarch was aware of.
In the recent incident that transpired in the mall, his daughter was not targeted—Hotarou was aware of it as well.
These indications were enough to signify that someone from his clan was involved in those two incidents. Given the resources being utilized it was given that someone with great authority could achieve something so grave.
Someone like the clan head’s chief adviser…
“You don’t seem to be much surprised, Patriarch.”
Hearing Yuki’s taunt, the man narrowed his gaze but didn’t say anything in that regard. He wasn’t a child to get into a verbal argument with the boy. Rather his interest remained in discerning something else,
“I am assuming that you must have a good reason for not doubting me but just my wife.”
The boy with silver hair seemed a little hesitant to say but he responded nevertheless,
“Everyone in Japan is aware of Patriarch Karuizawa’s personality and temperament. If you really had a grudge against me, you wouldn’t have used any underhanded method and confronted me head-on.”
Hotarou raised his brows before asking, “Is this trick to gain cookie points?”
“That would be futile for me, no? After all, I am one of the leading heirs of the Kurokawa clan.”
Under normal circumstances, Hotarou would have been offended being told that his favor was of no value for someone belonging to Kurkoawa. However, the older one with a big scar on his face, seemed focused on something else.
“You are joining the clan? Didn’t they disown you, years ago?”
What Hotarou said was a well-known fact across the nation. The eldest heir of the Kurkoawa clan, from whom everyone had tied their expectation was a worthless nobody and someone whom the Patriarch threw out of the clan just a year after his awakening.
Maya’s grip tightened on his shirt as she sat close to him and retained her gaze on the floor. The slight shift of expression she had didn’t go unnoticed by her father, but he didn’t say anything about it.
Although his wife always told him that Maya was still quite into Yuki, he didn’t believe her. However, seeing the way his daughter was acting, he got assurance.
“They couldn’t officially throw me away and discard my name from the family register until I turned sixteen…which I will do this year. However, given the change of situation, I know things wouldn’t end up the way they originally should have.”
Hotarou understood what he was trying to say. Yuki’s sudden strength growth. The achievement and appreciation he received in the tower. And also, the fact that Yuki was offered to be promoted to the next floor just within a month of enrollment was evidence that Yuki’s position in the Kurokawa clan would change.
Additionally, the Kurokawa Patriarch and renowned sword saint also went to meet Yuki some days ago—clarifying Hotarou about several things.
“Everything aside…Maya.” Hearing her father’s authoritative tone, she didn’t react and turned her indifferent gaze in his direction.
The stark contrast of her temperament around Yuki and in front of her own father made the older one frown. Did his daughter always disdain him this much?
“Your action toward your mother requires punishment. I am aware of what she did to Yuki, however, if Yuki would have come to ask for compensation, it would have been my duty to lower my head in my wife’s stead. Why you must commit something so hideous when you know, how a woman’s beauty and visage is their pride?”
Yuki worriedly looked at Maya, unsure whether he should interject now that things had come to parental reprimand.
And Maya was inwardly thankful that her Lord allowed her to reply.
“As Father said, he would take any punishment or compensate for any mistake which your wife committed. In the same manner, anything that hurts my Lord or even thinks of harming him would have to face my wrath, Father. Even if the person in question, had given birth to me.”
Yuki marveled at the sight of his handsome lover, who boldly stated how she would fight anyone who would be trying to harm him.
The usually shy and flustered Maya, showing such a courageous side was a delight to his eyes—however, Yuki held himself from fawning over the girl and maintained his focus on her father.
“Lord huh…have you already considered this brat your husband?”
Maya’s cold demeanor crumbled upon hearing that particular word before she leaned back in her seat and hid her face behind Yuki’s back. The only portion of her face which was viable to Hotarou, was painted in the shade of crimson—announcing his daughter’s response.
Hotarou crossed his arms on his chest. He was not accepting their relationship but rejecting it seemed fruitless, given the possessiveness his daughter was showcasing. In the end, he decided to talk about it later.
Hotarou remained silent for a moment or two before he lowered his head in front of Yuki—startling the latter.
“I know this isn’t something I can ask forgiveness for, that’s why in exchange for what my wife caused you, ask me anything you desire. However, I cannot let my family get harmed because of this.”
Not only Yuki but even Maya was stunned to hear those words as she glanced at her lover and found his widened gaze looking back at her.
Who knew, the renowned Frost Emperor was so humble and modest?
Yuki remained silent for a bit as his expression sobered up.
“Please raise your head, Patriarch.”
Hotarou did as Yuki said before the latter opened his mouth to share his true thoughts on the matter, “Indeed, I have pushed to the brink of death twice by now, because of Miyako-san and also, my public image is entirely ruined.”
Hotarou didn’t say anything and accepted every allegation. He had already verified the content of his accusations so there was no point arguing.
Yuki had a reason why he wasn’t making any rash decisions here nor did he seem excessively mad at Miyako for what she did. After all, through her sins, it was Yuki, who would gain.
“I won’t seek revenge nor disclose this information about your wife’s involvement…if only the Patriarch promises to provide me with something.”
Hotarou narrowed his eyes while Maya expectantly gazed at her Lord. However, against their thoughts and expectations, Yuki asked for something entirely different,
“Ancient Tome of Argalore.”
