With great powers, comes a great harem! - Chapter 79- Attempt?
When Maya left my room with the excuse to check on Shio, I was sure that she was going somewhere else.
Maya’s mind was something I could unconsciously read because of the bond now that we share. And as we move deeper into this connection, actively conversing through telepathy wouldn’t be too much of a problem.
Maya’s thoughts mostly revolve around a particular subject. Whether she is working or training. Whether she is eating or even sleeping, her subconscious always finds a way to connect to that single subject that she extremely loves to think about.
And that subject was none other than me.
Truth be told, I was initially stressed and slightly afraid of how obsessive Maya was. Although I never denied her feelings nor had any intention to run away from her, I felt a little distressed about Shio. The fact that Shio was my lover and Maya had to share me with her naturally would be upsetting for Maya, but thankfully no conflict arose between the two—thanks to my Shio’s welcoming and cheery personality.
Coming back to the topic, when Maya was leaving the hospital room I intentionally read her thoughts since I had a bad feeling about this. And as I thought, Maya intended to kill the perpetrator behind the mall incident—or more specifically, she was going to kill her own mother.
Although I had no such concern toward the Karuizawa family, I knew it wouldn’t be good for Maya to target her mother—given, who her husband was.
The Frost Emperor—Karuizawa Hatarou.
Despite how strong Maya is, she couldn’t win against an opponent who could freeze even the time on his will.
There was nothing more to consider. After chanting an all-purpose barrier around Shio and informing Professor Kazuya through my terminal I marched toward the Karuizawa main house.

“Please calm down Patriarch, before we can talk.”
“What is there to talk?!” The aggressive reply of the older one didn’t startle Yuki as he stood while guarding Maya.
Hataro’s domineering aura was making the air tremble and the condensed mana he was permeating could simply overpower any low-ranking hunter. If not for the barrier always protecting Yuki then he would have been influenced by his presence as well.
“I am aware that what Maya did to your wife is horrible and morally wrong….but you and I both know that incurring Maya’s anger is not a small feat as well, no?”
Yuki calmly raised a question that forced Hatarou to frown and contemplate.
Indeed, given Maya’s indifferent disposition and how rational the girl usually remains, it was a matter of concern why she would harm her own mother.
Hotarou is aware of his wife’s personality as well—which makes him doubt the woman in his arms even more.
Looking at her closed eyes and how Miyako was struggling to even breathe properly Hotarou spoke up, “First let me call a healer for her before we can continue this conversation.”
Maya frowned at that but before she could say anything in objection, Yuki held her wrist sternly and answered to the man, “Sure.”
Hotarou glanced at Maya for once before carrying his wife outside.
Yuki took the dagger from Maya’s hand before he inspected it,
“A magi-crafted dagger with burning and rotting effect. Something which only the police should have…did you steal it from them?”
Maya averted her gaze with her hands crossed behind her back.
Yuki looked at the girl with a puzzled expression. Primarily, he wanted to scold the girl for making such a rash decision but seeing her face, he lost all his motivation.
In the end, he set the dagger aside before cupping his lover’s cheeks—gaining her focus on him.
“Maya…I know that you are hurt about what happened back in the mall. And truth be told, I am also frustrated by your mother for trying to kill me not only once but twice. However, do you think, getting rid of her would help us solve the issue altogether?”
Hearing his words, made Maya raise her brows in astonishment as she reflexively asked, “Yuki-sama…are you meaning to say that there are more people involved in this?”
Yuki brought the girl closer before hugging her back and letting her head rest on his shoulder before he spoke in a soothing tone,
“Karuizawa clan is more into the industrial business rather than getting involved with the military and national security. Although the clan has astronomical resources, gaining authority over military-grade mutants still seems impossible for the Karuizawa family.”
Not everything in today’s world can be bought with money. The technology used in fully system-operated mutants was highly confidential and a subject to be kept under wraps from other countries.
Although the Karuizawa clan is listed among the four big powerhouses of Japan, they couldn’t have hired not one but four fully machine-operated and one half-mutant through their resources.
(A/N:- That half-mutant was the one who attacked them in the infirmary.)
“Then…Yuki-sama…what should we do?” Yuki was relieved to hear her sluggish voice which signified that she was a lot calmer than before.
“We need to either make the Karuizawa clan our ally through conversation or connection.”
Maya looked up at him before asking, “Connection?”
Yuki caressed her head softly as he responded in a whisper,
“The Christmas event this year is going to change many things, Maya.”

Once Hotarou left his wife in the care of the healer, he called the two teenagers to the reception area.
The atmosphere around the three was anything but friendly.
It was the first time Hotarou was meeting Yuki after his awakening, and being an experienced hunter, Hotarou could feel that the boy in front was strong. There was a strange air around Yuki that never allowed Hotarou to put down his guard.
It felt like he was sitting in front of something massive…something untamed; yet what his bare eyes showed him was a young brat in his late teenage, sitting calmly in front.
“Tell me the reason which caused my wife such pain. And don’t attempt to spout any lies.”
Maya scrunched her brows in annoyance at how rudely her father was talking to her Lord. However, the man she calls her Father was unaffected by her reaction, and it seemed that Yuki wasn’t much influenced either.
Yuki held Maya’s hand softly before he looked at the man and informed him,
“The most recent incident that occurred in the Castetern mall…are you aware of it?”
Hotarou frowned at that before nodding. The recent event might have been nothing more than a futile attempt at burglary if only the casualties weren’t civilians and the perpetrator wasn’t a magician.
The news has spread like wildfire and many anti-magician societies and humanitarian groups are soon going to get active once again.
Seeing the man nod, Yuki finally landed the news that the patriarch needed to know,
“Your wife was the one who tried murdering me…and now, I am seen as an enemy to both sides.”

A/N:- Gotta detail the conversation that’s why I prolonged it to the next chapter. Drop a comment.
