With great powers, comes a great harem! - Chapter 76- Betrayed?
Yuki was hurt. The control over his mana was flickering. His blood continuously streamed down his body and the fatigue after running and fighting around so much was finally kicking in as he stood while facing the group of men.
Six of them were standing with guns held in their hands and all of them pointing toward Yuki.
Two of them were Mutants who were radiating the EMP. Unlike the cyborg Yuki fought back in the infirmary, these two mutants were operational system-based. They don’t possess their conscience but rather just follow commands.
And about the other four; Yuki couldn’t see their faces but given their stance and full-clothed bodies, he knew they were the preparators behind this ambush.
However, the fact that they also didn’t possess mana was questionable. How come someone could send assassins to kill Yuki who doesn’t have magic in their arsenal?
‘…well, looking at my condition, it seems to have no magician group was a better retort…’ Yuki spat some blood on the ground and faced his adversaries.
“For whom…you guys are working?” Yuki’s voice was still composed…yet, his weakening condition due to blood loss was making it difficult for him to retain his consciousness.
“Shirazawa Yuki. You would be surprised to hear the name of my contractor.”
The tallest one from the group of four, walked forward, with his gun lowered. The man extruded an air of confidence and calmness. Clearly not taking Yuki as a danger any longer.
“Then…surprise me.” Yuki was eager to know who backstabbed him.
Given his family relationships, it wouldn’t be a surprise if his own parents had hired these people to murder Yuki before the Christmas event.
The news about the Patriarch visiting the Tower must have already echoed across the nation; as such it wasn’t a shock that someone conspired against him.
However, Yuki was unaware of how the military-exclusive mutants could be bought and deployed so easily by some random criminal group.
“Why don’t you first lower your head a little before we continue this conversation?”
Yuki frowned at that, but he didn’t get the time to contemplate over the man’s words as suddenly the two mutants advanced toward him from either side. They no longer were holding guns, rather balling their fists and intending to punch him with inhumane strength.
Yuki was late by just half a second as he dodged the first one by crouching but the other mutant speared his knee directly into Yuki’s face—sending him meters away.
“Guh!” Yuki slid across the floor before he used the momentum to flip toward his back after pressing his palm to the ground and raising his legs high above.
He stumbled on his feet but soon regained footing…only to find himself tilting and blocking another set of onslaught.
The two mutants weren’t symmetrical like the last two. They were punching and kicking Yuki in varying fashions, and going for his blindspot using the previous attack as a decoy.
A left punch was blocked by Yuki’s forearm, but in the process, he allowed his torso to be left open.
*DHAK*
“Agh!” Yuki spat out blood and saliva upon having his stomach kneed by the shorter mutant.
Yuki clenched his teeth before holding the mutant’s head, who kneed him just now, before headbutting him.
*BOOOM*
A loud explosion suddenly reverberated as the impact Yuki bestowed was far greater than anyone could have expected.
Seeing the mutant dropping to the floor, he rejoiced.
*FOOOSH*
The celebration didn’t last longer before he had to hold the incoming punch of the other mutant.
However, what Yuki missed was the fact that one of the four humans had arrived behind him to fill the gap of the already dead mutant.
Just as Yuki got into a locked position with the mutant, the black-clothed human stabbed a knife at the same spot where he was shot before.
“AHHHHHH!!!” Yuki lost the battle of fist fight before he screamed at the top of his lungs upon feeling the burning sensation on his wound
He dropped his knees before the mutant struck its elbow right at Yuki’s crown—rendering him unconscious for a moment as the boy fell flat on the ground.
The blood from his wounds created a small puddle around him as Yuki lay on the floor. His eyes were barely open and his breathing depleting by the second.
The tall man crouched as he said, “Uh, now it’s better. A bastard child like you should keep his head low.”
Grabbing Yuki’s hair the man slammed his face against the floor.
“You were eager to know who sent me right? Who gave me all your locations and provided me with the funds to hire these machines?”
Indicating toward the mutant, the man asked.
Yuki no longer had the strength to say or gesture anything but the fierceness his eyes adapted, told the man, how eager the boy was to know about the preparator.
The man chuckled before he grabbed Yuki’s hair and made him look toward the shield barrier where Maya and Shio stood.
“It was the Karuizawa family who hired me. However, the main helper in this operation was none other than your lover—Karuizawa Maya~”
Yuki’s eyes slightly widened upon hearing those words before he redirected his gaze toward Maya.
The blond girl was kneeling in the barrier with tears never stopping…but it only elevated his doubts as he heard the man continuing,
“Isn’t it hilarious how the renowned daughter of such a prominent clan got all chummy with such a bastard and useless child like you? Didn’t you find anything suspicious?”
The evil laughter of the man resonated across the mall as he laughed at Yuki’s misery and enjoyed the shocked look he adopted upon hearing the news.
This was the best reaction he could have asked for.
However, the job was not finished yet. He has to kill the brat as well.
“Hmm…let’s see..” Getting back on his feet the enshrouded man turned toward his other partners to receive a certain dagger. This dagger held the emblem of his organization. It would help him widen the terror.
However, just as he turned, he noticed something strange.
‘If the brat is on his last breath…then how that barrier is still erect?’ The barrier, protecting both girls was still active and strong like before—which was quite strange given the chanter’s current condition.
However, the moment he realized what might be the case, it was already too late.
**BOOOOM**
Suddenly, the tall man swirled on his feet and looked at the place where the mutant stood…only to see its whole body enveloped in fiery flames.
The ambusher’s eyes widened before he looked at the ground, where once Yuki’s body lay…only to find the spot now entirely empty.
“Akh!” The tall man turned to look at his partners…only to see their heads dropping on the ground with their bodies standing for another moment.
“…huh?”
The tables have turned.
