Shirazawa Yuki was a genius in the arts of Barrier formation. And this fact was something the S-ranked hunter, Rurika Kaede had long accepted.

The reason she gave the ticket to the Tower to Yuki was because of that reason.

She has met various kinds of barrier-type mages but Yuki was peculiar and special compared to all of them.

For example, Kaede has never heard that a barrier could connect with the consciousness with not just the chanter but someone else as well. Like the barrier Yuki has left behind around his house—which was a commendable practice of sorcery itself—alerts Yuki as well as Kaede, whenever someone tries to breach the barrier.

Yes, Kaede could sense if someone with malicious intent intrudes inside the Shirazawa household. That was how she got to know that Yuki’s sister was in danger.

Kaede was aware that a lot was brewing inside the two prominent clans—Kurokawa and Karuizawa that is. That was why Kaede made the proposal to keep Yuki’s sister safe at the time when he would be away. She had a gut feeling that if Yuki progressed and showed his achievements in the tower the people whom Yuki once called his family, wouldn’t tolerate it much and surely would do something to sabotage Yuki’s progression.

And as she thought, Shirazawa Amaye was ambushed last night. Fortunately, Kaede herself was in town or she might have to ask her friend to keep Amaye safe.

The people who came to abduct Amaye were no newbies since each one of them ranked at least B to C, as from what Kaede evaluated. And hiring such goons was nothing a small organization could do, considering the risk of being caught.

‘As I thought…those sick oldies…’ Sighing she finished her cigarette before throwing the butt near the entrance and stomping over it.

Walking back inside she saw Amaye still talking to Yuki about what happened and such.

Rolling her eyes, Kaede walked up to the girl and snatched the phone away.

“Ah…” Amaye extended her hand to take the phone back but under the strict glare from Kaede, Amaye sulked and retracted her hands.

“Shirazawa Yuki.”

[Before anything, I want to extend my deepest gratitude for saving my sister. I can’t express how grateful I am.]

Kaede seemed uncomfortable hearing so many thanks at once but she hummed in response before shifting the topic.

“Have you thought about something regarding your sister? I can’t save her every time she gets attacked, you know right?”

Kaede couldn’t stay in one place for more than one week and she could ask for favors once or twice. Unless she wasn’t paying some high-ranked guards to protect Amaye, there was no other option. And Kaede was not so fond of spending money on things that didn’t offer anything to her.

Fortunately, Yuki’s following words cleared the clouds of complications.

[I have talked with a senior professor and administrator of the Tower’s first floor. I think Nee-san would be able to join the Tower as a librarian or maybe a barista. Until she could be safe and be in front of my eyes…I think the idea of employment isn’t that bad, right?]

Kaede’s brows inched high upon hearing the suggestion. Getting recruited as an employee in the tower without much experience or background was nothing but a miracle.

However, the thing that made her frown in perplexion was the source of this sudden employment offer.

“How exactly did you persuade this professor again?”

The first thing that came into her mind was sex. Plain and simple, sex. Living in the tower for so long must have made people thirsty there and Yuki looks like a person who would remain tame-

‘The fuck I am thinking about these days…’ Kaede forcibly disconnected the train of her thoughts which were about to taint her imagination with Yuki at its center.

However, her expression soon shifted when she began hearing Yuki’s following words…

[Actually, last night…]

After having another hour of chatting with his sister Yuki was finally able to calm her down. He didn’t tell her about the incident in the infirmary last night since she was too shaken up already.

He asked a friend of his Nee-san to come over and stay over for today at least. Fortunately, the friend mentioned agreed with the request and was coming over. Until then Kaede promised Yuki that she would remain with Amaye.

Thanks to the promise Professor Kazuya made to Yuki, he was now relieved about his sister’s safety. If things go well then by tomorrow she would arrive in the tower.

“Haah….” It really was a long day.

Many things have occurred since yesterday. The spar with Kuroi, followed by the infirmary incident and now what happened with his sister.

Despite how he looked, Yuki was annoyed and angered. He was not gonna let this slide. Not only him, but the people he treasures were under threat. And for god sake, he was well adamant on returning the favors.

“You! Where have you hid lady Maya?!”

Yuki’s gaze shifted toward the lady wearing a formal uniform. It didn’t take much time for him to realize that she was Maya’s assistant, Catherine.

“What do you need?” Yuki noticed that the students walking to and fro had stopped in their tracks and began watching them.

‘Talk about being noisy…and nosy.’ He held back his urge to shake his head.

“She’s resting inside so if y-” Yuki didn’t get to finish his words before he found himself raising his hand and blocking the punch the assistant launched at him.

‘Ou…’ His bones creaked and veins pulsated at the impact. And if it was not the barrier around him that toned down the force of her strike, Yuki might have been swatted away.

‘B-rank? No maybe…’ He didn’t get the chance to finish his monologue when the maid suddenly launched her knee toward Yuki’s abdomen only to be blocked by Yuki’s elbow.

“Naive…” Because of the strike, he was blocking from her knee, Yuki didn’t notice when Catherine conjured a ball of compressed air before launching it at the center of Yuki’s chest.

“KHAK!!” This time Yuki was thrashed away like a broken kite and landed on the pedestrian path, near two students who were standing nearby.

Yuki touched his chest where his raw muscles and hot blood came in contact with his fingers …

‘This is bad…’ Catherine was stronger than he thought and after last night’s battle he hadn’t recovered completely.

Just when Catherine was about to launch another attack and Yuki would have conjured a barrier to block her, a thunderous voice resonated, sending shivers down many, especially, Catherine’s spine.

“HOW DARE YOU!”
