With great powers, comes a great harem! - Chapter 37- Ambush~3?
Yuki was aware that the letter arrived for him out of nowhere, was to warn him once again.
At that time he didn’t have any suspicion of his surrounding people but just for assurance, when the nurse snatched the letter away from him, Yuki used his skill, [Book Worm] to read the content of the letter.
However, since his consciousness began to fade, he needed to organize his thoughts and comprehend the content of the letter.
It took him some time but finally, the words neatly written in the warning note surfaced in his mind:
[ Tonight, when you would be rendered vulnerable someone might try to attack you. It might be anyone since people who are after you can influence the tower administration. It could be anyone so please be a little alert of your surroundings and keep an eye on everyone whom you don’t trust and even those whom you do.]
It struck him later that he had been poisoned. The time he realized after assessing the letter, it had already been quite a few hours. Due to his sluggish conscience, his mind wasn’t working as it was supposed to.
Thanks to the barrier his body was always surrounded with, the poison didn’t spread severely and Yuki was able to use his senses to a certain limit.
He didn’t expect that someone might try to kill him inside the tower using the administrative resources and such. Considering how strict the management was, Yuki believed that every person in the Tower could be trustworthy.
He was naive.
When he was about to heal himself and get up to save Shio, he felt the space disorienting around them so he waited for a bit. He already had created a shield around Shio while still being unconscious which would have healed her from any life-threatening danger, whether physical or magical.
Yuki waited for the unexpected person to enter the scene and know their motive in the matter so he could begin his assault altogether without fearing being backstabbed.
But when he realized that this unexpected appearance was none other than Maya, who not only appeared to be concerned about him but also saved Shio, Yuki found himself in confusion.
But it was already over for his tolerance capabilities. A lot of people have already touched his Shio while he was healing himself on the bed and now he wants revenge.
No saving his life, no doing justice. He just desired revenge for making his girlfriend cry.
“Y-” The nurse was the first to realize that Yuki had moved away from his bed and had advanced toward her at a frightening pace, but before she could shout, Yuki conjured a soundproofing barrier around the woman and slowly began to shrink the barrier down.
The woman had a frantic expression as she tried using her elemental magic only to be nullified by the barrier. Yuki’s eyes remained cold as he shrunk the barrier until the point where each woman’s bone was broken and shattered into pieces, blood spurting out from distinctive corners and her innards spilled inside the spherical barrier.
Once done, he allowed his gluttony to eat the remnants of the dead nurse. He didn’t want to devour her for strength rather he didn’t like the idea of allowing Shio to see something like this.
Yuki wasn’t a psychotic killer but when it comes to someone he loves..he just doesn’t hold back.
While Yuki dealt with the nurse, the other assailants had already noticed the small confrontation in the corner but Yuki had created a barrier to suppress their yells.
“Y-Yuki….” It seemed Shio and Maya finally noticed that he was awake as Shio’s sobbing voice reached up to him.
The tears in her caramel eyes helped him sober up as the air of blood lust surrounding him, soon dissipated. Yuki extended his arm before Shio jumped into his embrace without a second thought.
“YUKIIII!!! ”
“It’s alright… I am fine as you see… ”
Yuki could see Maya visibly relieved as well, but she held her feet which were advancing toward Yuki, and reminded herself of her position in his life.
Yuki just glanced at Maya for once, meeting her gaze as he did so before he separated from Shio and looked toward the groaning man on the ground.
“You can stop acting now. I know you long have recovered from that blow.”
The man who was eyeing Shio with those disgusting eyes and the person who dared say such vile things about the innocent girl was still alive but Yuki would change that soon.
The man’s twisted expression soon cleared up as with a menacing smile on his lips, he looked at the silver-haired boy in front.
“Kukuku….you noticed? Well, my role was to observe the person who comes to your rescue, and now that I have already witnessed her…I don’t need to hold back~”As the man said, his eyes traveled toward Maya. Her eyes remained cold even though she realized the implication of his words.
The man might have already reported it back to Maya’s assistant about her appearance in the infirmary but that didn’t matter to her since in her eyes, saving Yuki and those whom he treasures held her utmost priority.
“Maya…can you warp away and take Shio with you?”
Yuki’s concern remained with the two girls. Maya might have been a helpful ally given her combat skills and her command over her attributes but as a healer, Shio would only be an easy target for the enemies.
Maya nodded and was prepared to teleport away despite the resistance from Shio who wanted to stay here and help Yuki. Maya decided to report the incident to the professor as soon as she could which would be more helpful than trying to fight alongside him only to come in Yuki’s way.
She already had seen his abilities today and knew her lord would easily be able to hold the goon until the Professor arrives.
However, before she could conjure a portal and push the stubborn Shio inside of it, the middle-aged janitor yelled at the top of his lungs, radiating a strange kind of energy from his body.
“LIKE HELL I WOULD LET YOU GO!!” The strange energy extruded out of the man and spread across the infirmary, rendering Maya’s spell useless. She was…unable to cast magic?!
Yuki’s barrier, which contained the other assailants also disintegrated allowing the ambushers wearing lab coats to move freely.
“A mana EMP…?” Yuki was flabbergasted seeing a person capable of attaining such a deed which only military-exclusive tools could have done.
A Mana Restraining Pulse was a device that scientists discovered some years ago that cut off all the magical aspects within a certain area. It was a highly protected and secretive product, something no regular human could get their hands on.
However, this man who was grinning menacingly didn’t have any visible device, and he released the energy out of his body just now.
Which signified… “Are you a Mutant?”
A term introduced to those people who were researched and experimented in the labs to generate a new kind of magician warrior. The purpose was to create a barrier around the world who could fight against the danger in any face, for an infinite amount of time.
Basic mutation and Mechanical mutation were two different things.
In the former case, scientists tried assimilating mana cores and circuits of two different beings into a third one, to allow them to wield more than one attribute. A scientifically created double or sometimes triple awakened.
However, the biological mutation failed for quite many times and many losses were have to be faced by many countries including Japan, so the research was banned almost in every country. Many say it was just a bluff to assure the citizens as many governments still were trying to create their perfect mutant until now.
The mechanical mutation was a simpler process in which the human brain gets components of an A. I program along with many modern technologies to allow their processor to develop and become something…something out of the bounds of a mortal mind.
Sometimes the mutated host gets their limbs replaced by mechanical arms and legs to make them stronger. However, because of how much the said Mutation could cause mayhem in civilized society, the Japanese government put a lid on the supply and only delivered the Mutants to the military or some important figures of the country.
And undoubtedly, the man currently in front of Yuki was surely a Mutant with his head working as a Mana EMP.
Maya sneakily tried using her terminal to send SOS only to realize the signals were jammed. The plan was thorough.
They were trapped and isolated.
“Kukuku…I am gonna enjoy your woman while keeping your consciousness intact before ripping you into shreds~”
