The message should have been read, but there was no reply – this is commonly referred to as “leave-on-read”.
When a person does not read a message, he or she feels a sense of distrust towards the other person. This is natural, since it’s the same as “ignoring” in the context of everyday conversations.
However, when it becomes a habitual offender, it’s scary how one can get used to it.
In my class, there is one person who is a habitual offender of leave-on-read.
“Saeki-san, she really doesn’t reply to me, right? It’s read, but…”
“Mine doesn’t even get read after 4 days…”
“It’s Saeki-san after all.”
The cheerful boys seated behind me were lamenting.
Their focus of conversation, Saeki-san, refers to a girl in our class—Yukine Saeki.
She has ample breasts, and long, slender arms and legs; semi-long, shoulder-length hair and with a cold, indifferent gaze that always looks down on those around her. A female student who has been gossiped about since she first entered the school for her unparalleled good looks. But, despite her popularity, she is usually quiet, has no close friends, and doesn’t let anyone approach her.
Because of this, Saeki is known as a [Solitary Beauty], and even now, at her seat at the edge of the class, she quietly looks down and reads her books, alone.
She has such an aura that makes me wonder if there is a barrier that specially keeps other people away from her.
“I really want to get close to Saeki-san.”
After Yukine Saeki became known as the Solitary Beauty, the popular boys in our class began to attack her relentlessly, wanting to talk to Saeki no matter what.
Recently, it blew up to the point that it turned into a game where whoever receives a response from Saeki, even if it’s just a chat, wins.
Even though they became high school students, they are playing around like kids….what a bunch of good-for-nothings.
As I looked out the window and mentally made fun of the jokers in the back seat, someone from the group walked up to me and annoyingly put his hand on my shoulder.
“Yo, Okami~ Why don’t you try sending a lime to Saeki-san too?”
“………..”
I, Kotoku Okami, who had been staring out the window for a long time, stared at the Riajuu who came to me and put his hand on my shoulder.
Shut the hell up, don’t talk to me…..
“If you are embarrassed to send lime to Saeki-san, I’ll think of the content, okay~? So anyway, lend me your phone Okami~”
(TL/n: Riajuu = Yin-kya = popular guys/girls, at top caste)
When I decided to ignore him, the Riajuu became more persistent, touching my shoulder in an already-friends-like manner.
This guy has been annoying me for a while now……
As I was about to brush his hand away, another member of the Riajuu group came up to me and pulled the shoulder of the Riajuu who was annoying me.
“Stop making fun of Okami, man. If even ours can’t be marked as read, then there’s no chance that Okami’s will.”
“….Well, you’re right.”
The cheerful boys in my class, perhaps because they were not being taken seriously by Saeki-san, made fun of me as if to release their stress, and then headed for the cafeteria.
I’m sure it’s because they have such an attitude that they can’t get together with Saeki-san.
I turned my attention back to Saeki.
As usual, Saeki was reading a book in her seat, with unblinking eyes.
“When walking down the hallway, getting dirty looks from boys, and when walking down the street, catching entertainment scouts’ attention. It’s a hard life, isn’t it?”
The one who came to my seat while saying that was my childhood friend, Tamari Michifuji. She is short and has a childish appearance of a twin-tail hairstyle and baby face, so she is often treated like a child and is the class mascot.
“By this hard life, are you talking about Saeki?”
“Correct. A beautiful girl, therefore, is troubled by her own beauty…I envy that kind of life.”
What is there to envy?
Getting followed around by a bunch of Riajuus like those goldfish turds, not doing anything, but getting so much attention from everyone around you that you don’t have time to relax…..that would suck.
“Kotoku-kun, aren’t you interested in Saeki-chan?”
“Not interested.”
“Really? Well, Kotoku-kun has always been devoted to me. A severe loli-con!”
Tamari hugged my right arm and rubbed her cheek against it.
“Oi, get away from me, Tamari”
SHINIGAMI-san: Hey readers, sorry I’ll post the rest tomorrow. I wanted to tl this novel for a while now and decided to take it. This will be fun to tl since I read ahead quite a few chaps. The Schedule will be once or twice per week, less than my other novel, maybe. But enjoy.
