Playing House With Snow White Has An Overwhelming Charm.
“I’m exhausted from the test.”
After finishing the first day of mid-term exams, Himeno and I went shopping together.
My fridge was running low on supplies, so we decided to do a grocery run to stock up for the next few days.
Typically, Marika takes care of the shopping, but I wanted to step up and handle it myself to become more independent.
“There are still two days left.”
Himeno chuckled, acknowledging that it might be a bit early to claim fatigue since the exams aren’t over yet.
But once fatigue sets in, there’s not much you can do about it.
Especially when today’s test included English, a subject I struggle with.
“How about we try the lottery to lighten the mood?”
We received lottery tickets after shopping, and there’s a lottery area at the end of the shopping street.
Even if the prizes end up being just tissues or something small, it’s worth giving it a shot since we got the tickets.
“Hehe, sounds like a plan.”
Holding hands, we made our way to the lottery area.
“Yeees! It’s a participation prize, tissues!”
We heard someone exclaim after trying the lottery before us, receiving tissues as a participation prize.
Winning something significant is not guaranteed, and it’s all a matter of luck, so there’s no point in getting upset about it.
Despite my luck possibly dwindling recently, with the sweet days spent with Himeno, I felt a sudden urge to try my luck.
“The grand prize is a Hakone trip…”
A sign on the board mentioned the grand prize.
Ideally, I would have preferred an international trip, but there’s no use complaining. It’s all up to luck.
The budget for the shopping street is probably limited, and in times of economic downturn, it’s understandable that the grand prize is a Hakone trip.
“Let’s give the lottery a shot.”
Handing over the lottery ticket we received during shopping, we had ten chances since we spent over 3,000 yen.
“Go ahead.”
Handing over the lottery ticket, I was instructed to turn the raffle drum. Taking a deep breath, I spun it.
“As expected, tissues…”
The first draw resulted in a white ball, indicating a participation prize of tissues. Most of the prizes were likely participation awards, and winning something significant was unlikely.
“Let’s spin it together.”
Holding onto the raffle drum’s handle with Himeno, we turned it together. I once looked it up out of curiosity, and the formal name for the raffle drum is apparently the Arai-style Rotating Lottery Machine. It’s convenient to be able to look up various things on your smartphone.
“Congratulations. It’s the grand prize, a trip to Hakone.”
The ball that came out after spinning the drum was gold, and the shopping street attendant rang a bell with a clink-clank sound.
“Hakone trip?”
Unable to believe it was the grand prize, I looked at Himeno, who seemed equally astonished. Winning something significant like this is very rare, so it’s understandable to be surprised. In disbelief, I looked again at the golden ball that had come out of the raffle drum.
“Congratulations. Here’s the ticket for the grand prize, a trip to Hakone.”
It seemed to be a ticket inside an envelope, handed to us by the shopping street attendant. The realization finally sank in as the envelope was handed over, but the surprise was overwhelming, making my head feel light and fluffy.
“Taka-kun, this is the grand prize you and I won together.”
I heard a sweet voice in my ear.
“Y-yeah, that’s right.”
Certainly, there was no mistake that it was a grand prize drawn with Himeno. However, a new issue arose – who would use this ticket?
Since the bulletin board stated “Two nights, three days for a pair,” only the two of us could go. It was unclear whether high school students could stay at the inn, and going with just Himeno might be difficult.
“By the way, as long as you can contact your parents, high school students can stay at this inn.”
The shopping street attendant seemed to say this as if reading our minds. It seemed that our expressions gave away our concerns.
There are inns where high school students can stay, and it seemed to be fine as long as we confirmed it properly. Of course, there was a promise not to do anything inappropriate.
“I want to go with you, Taka-kun. It’s a promise to go out together once the tests are over.”
Certainly, we made such a promise, and I remembered it well.
“Besides, it will be like a honeymoon.”
The sweet whisper in my ear was incredibly captivating for me.
It seemed to refer to making the Hakone trip a honeymoon. In that instant, it was decided that once the tests were over, we would go on a honeymoon to Hakone.
By the way, it goes without saying that the remaining draws all resulted in tissues.
